  • This paper reports the experimental results for the determination of the overall partition coefficient of VOCs in unsaturated soil, A chromatographic method was used for the determination of gaseous partition coefficients to natural soil under various water content conditions. The equilibrium vapor pressure of water over saturated salt solution was used to fix the relative humidity of the air and control the water content of the soil systems. The transport behavior was studied for dichloromethane, trichloroethane and dichlorobenzene pollutants, with log octanol-water partition coefficients(log $K_{ow}$ ) which range from 1.25 to 3.39, or water to soil partitioning which varies by 135 times; water solubility constants which vary by 3 times; and vapor pressures which range from 1 to 362 torr. Water content of the soil had a pronounced effect on the effective partition coefficient(between gas and soil + water stationary phase) as well as on the effective dispersion coefficient.

  • The energy conservation theory is introduced for investigating processes of runoff and soil erosion on the hillslope system changed vegetation condition by wildfire The rainfall energy, input energy consisted of kinetic and potential energy, is influenced by vegetation coverage and height. Output energy at the outlet of hillslope is decided as the kinetic energy of runoff and erosion soil, and mechanical work according to moving water and soil is influenced dominantly by the work rather than the kinetic energy. Relationship between output and input energy is possible to calculate the energy loss in the runoff and erosion process. The absolute value of the energy loss is controlled by the input energy size of rainfall because energy losses of runoff increase as many rainfall pass through the hillslope system. The energy coefficient which is dimensionless is defined as the ratio of input energy of rainfall to output energy of runoff water and erosion soil such as runoff coefficient. The energy coefficient and runoff coefficient showed the highest correlation coefficient with the vegetation coverage. Maximum energy coefficient is about 0.5 in the hillslope system. The energy theory for output energy of runoff and soil erosion is presented by the energy coefficient theory associated with vegetation factor. Also runoff and erosion soil resulting output energy have the relation of power function and the rates of these increase with rainfall.

사질토의 함수특성곡선에 대한 균등계수와 공극율의 영향에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Effects of the Coefficient of Uniformity and Porosity on the Soil-Water Characteristic Curves of Sandy Soils)

  • 일반적으로 입도분포가 양호하며 조밀한 흙은 공학적 성질이 우수하다. 불포화토의 공학적 성질, 즉 전단강도, 압축성, 투수성 등의 거동은 흙의 함수특성곡선과 밀접한 관계가 있다. 따라서 사질토의 입도분포 및 다짐상태와 관련있는 균등계수와 공극율이 그 흙의 함수특성곡선에 미치는 영향을 연구하는 것은 중요하다. 본 연구에서는 6개의 사질토 시료에 대하여 템페셀을 사용하여 함수특성곡선시험을 하였다. 시험결과를 Fredlund and Xing 모델식으로 최적화하여 모델식의 매개변수를 구하였고, 시료의 균등계수와 공극율이 매개변수에 미치는 영향을 조사하였다. 시료의 잔류흡수력은 시료의 공극율이 작을수록, 그리고 균등계수가 클수록 증가하였으며, 함수특성곡선의 최대경사는 시료의 균등계수와 상관없이 공극율이 작을수록 완만해짐을 알 수 있었다.

Evapotranspiration and Grain Yield in Responses to Different Soil Water Conditions in Soybean

  • This experiment was conducted to evaluate the effect on evapotranspiration and yield of soybean according to different soil water conditions, and to find the optimum time and amount for irrigation in soybean cultivation. The difference between potential evapotranspiration (PET) and maximum evapotranspiration (MET) during growing season of soybean planted in lysimeter was higher during reproductive stage than during vegetative one. The maximum crop coefficient was obtained at beginning seed stage of soybean. Soil water coefficient of irrigation treatment was higher than that of non-irrigation treatment during soybean growth stage in field experiment. Grain yield was highest in lysimeter due to its high water use efficiency and evapotranspiration rate.

  • 토양수분 확산계수 추정을 위한 이론식(Mualem's principle)과 실측법(Hopmans' equation)을 제시하여 실험한 결과 실측치와 이론치의 상당한 근접을 보였으므로 Hopmans의 수치해석적 모형을 실측모형으로 재시하고자 한다. 작물계수 측정에 있어서는 생육시기에 따른 모형화보다는 생육온도에 따른 모형화가 함수 관계에 있어서 보다 더 유의성 있는 상관성을 보였다.

고함수비를 가진 준설토의 압밀특성 (Consolidation Characteristics of Dredged Soil with High Water Content)

  • Dredged soil from sea has much higher water content than liquid limit of clay and even if small loads apply, it will suffer a great settlement. Therefore it is very difficult to perform a consolidation test with general consolidation apparatus because of high water content. In this study Rowe Cell Apparatus consolidation tests have been performed with 1 remolding clay of water content 56% and 4 slurry clays of a water content of 100%, 120%, 133% and 150%. From the test results the consolidation characteristics such as compression index, secondary compression index and consolidation coefficient have been investigated with a variation of water content of dredged soil. The equations to get consolidation constants such as a compression index, a consolidation coefficient have been proposed with the field water content.

Reliability analysis of soil slope reinforced by micro-pile considering spatial variability of soil strength parameters

  • In the traditional slope stability analysis, ignoring the spatial variability of slope soil will lead to inaccurate analysis. In this paper, the K-L series expansion method is adopted to simulate random field of soil strength parameters. Based on Random Limit Equilibrium Method (RLEM), the influence of variation coefficient and fluctuation range on reliability of soil slope supported by micro-pile is investigated. The results show that the fluctuation ranges and the variation coefficients significantly influence the failure probability of soil slope supported by micro-pile. With the increase of fluctuation range of soil strength parameters, the mean safety factor of the slope increases slightly. The failure probability of the soil slope increases with the increase of fluctuation range when the mean safety factor of the slope is greater than 1. The failure probability of the slope increases by nearly 8.5% when the fluctuation range is increased from δv=2 m to δv =8 m. With the increase of the variation coefficient of soil strength parameters, the mean safety factor of the slope decreases slightly, and the probability of failure of soil slope increases accordingly. The failure probability of the slope increases by nearly 31% when the variation coefficient increases from COVc=0.2, COVφ=0.05 to COVc=0.5, COVφ=0.2.

  • The coefficient of permeability is one of the most important properties in unsaturated soils. The permeability varies with change in the water content as the soil water characteristic curve(SWCC) does. Thus the permeability curve of unsaturated soils has the similar shape with the soil-water characteristic curve(SWCC). Therefore, the methodologies have been studied to simply predict the unsaturated permeability from the SWCC. In this study, the experimental tests of SWCC and permeability were carried out for domestic weathered granite soils. The SWCC test results were fitted to Fredlund and Xing's SWCC equation and then it was found that there are some relationships between the parameters of SWCC equation and the basic soil properties. Accordingly we used an ANN(artificial neural network) model to obtain the SWCC parameters from the basic soil properties. Finally, the coefficients of permeability were predicted from these results by a prediction model.

An Analysis on Remediation of Soil Contaminted with Cobalt by Solvent Flushing

  • A soil whose texture is silt loam was collected for the study from an area around a nuclear facility in Korea. The equilibrium sorption coefficient between Co$^{2+}$in water and the soil was 1.51/kg, on the other hand, that between Co$^{2+}$ in EDTA and the soil was 0.21/kg. The values calculated by the developed nonequilibrium sorption code corresponded to the experimental values better than those calculated by the existing equilibrium sorption code. When an EDTA solution was used as a solvent to decontaminate Co$^{2+}$ in the soil column, the relative Co$^{2+}$ concentrations of the effluent were higher at 2~10 pore volumes than those of the case using water. The soil in the column was decontaminated by 95.5% of the total amount of Co$^{2+}$ after being flushed with EDTA solution of 20 pore volumes.e volumes.
