안정화 처리된 비소오염토양의 장기 용출특성 (Long-Term Leaching Characteristics of Arsenic Contaminated Soils Treated by the Stabilization Method)

  • In order to investigate stabilization effect and sustainability on As-contaminated farmland soils which were affected the abandoned mine site and stabilized by zerovalent iron(ZVI) and industrial by-products, batch-scale and pilot-scale tests were carried out. In batch tests, ZVI and industrial by-products(blast furnace slag, steel refining slag and oyster shell powder) were used in treatment materials to reduce the As leaching. Industrial by-products were mixed with As-contaminated soils, in the ratio of 1%, 3%, 5% and 7% on the weight base of dried soil. The results of batch-scale tests was shown that the reduction of As concentration was observed in all samples and it was expected that ZVI and steel refining slag were more effective than other treatment materials to stabilize As compounds. In pilot-scale tests, columns were filled with untreated soils and treated soils mixed with ZVI and steel refining slag in the same mixing ratio of 3%. Distilled water was discharged into the columns with the velocity of 0.3 pore volume/day. During the test, pH, EC, Eh and As concentration were measured in the regular term(1pore volume). after six months, pilot-scale tests were retested to investigate sustainability of treatment materials. As a result, It was shown that the leachate from control column was continuously released during the test period and its concentration was greater than $100ug{\cdot}L^{-1}$ which was exceeded the national regulation of water discharged to river or stream ($50ug{\cdot}L^{-1}$). On the other hand, soil treated with ZVI and steel refining slag showed that the concentrations of leachate were lower than national regulation of water discharged to river or stream. Therefore it was expected that ZVI and steel refining slag could be applied to the farmland site as the alternative treatment materials.

Investigation of effects of twin excavations effects on stability of a 20-storey building in sand: 3D finite element approach

  • Across the globe, rapid urbanization demands the construction of basements for car parking and sub way station within the vicinity of high-rise buildings supported on piled raft foundations. As a consequence, ground movements caused by such excavations could interfere with the serviceability of the building and the piled raft as well. Hence, the prediction of the building responses to the adjacent excavations is of utmost importance. This study used three-dimensional numerical modelling to capture the effects of twin excavations (final depth of each excavation, He=24 m) on a 20-storey building resting on (4×4) piled raft. Because the considered structure, pile foundation, and soil deposit are three-dimensional in nature, the adopted three-dimensional numerical modelling can provide a more realistic simulation to capture responses of the system. The hypoplastic constitutive model was used to capture soil behaviour. The concrete damaged plasticity (CDP) model was used to capture the cracking behaviour in the concrete beams, columns and piles. The computed results revealed that the first excavation- induced substantial differential settlement (i.e., tilting) in the adjacent high-rise building while second excavation caused the building tilt back with smaller rate. As a result, the building remains tilted towards the first excavation with final value of tilting of 0.28%. Consequently, the most severe tensile cracking damage at the bottom of two middle columns. At the end of twin excavations, the building load resisted by the raft reduced to half of that the load before the excavations. The reduced load transferred to the piles resulting in increment of the axial load along the entire length of piles.

제주도 대표 토양에서 Alachlor와 Chlorothalonil의 흡착과 이동 연구 (Adsorption and movement of Alachlor and Chlorothalonil in the representative soil of Cheju Island)

  • 본 연구는 제주도 경작지에 분포되어 있는 3개 토양군의 대표토양인 혹색 화산회토 남원통, 농암갈색 화산회토 제주통 및 암갈색 비화산회토 무릉통의 alachlor와 chlorothalonil의 흡착과 이동 특성을 밝히기 위하여 수행되었다. 남원통은 유기물 함량 및 양이온치환용량이 매우 높은 토양이며, 무릉통은 매우 낮은 토양이었다. 흡착특성은 Linear 및 Freundlich 등온흡착식과 잘 일치하였다. 남원통에서 alachlor의 K 값은 21.38로서 제주통 및 무릉통에 비하여 5.4배 및 97.2배 높았으며, chlorothalonil의 K 값도 alachlor와 비슷한 경향이었으나 alachlor에 비하여 현저히 컸다. 각각 10.25 mg/l의 alachlor와 1.50 mg/l의 chlorothalonil 용액을 토주에 흘려보냈을 때, 무릉통, 제주통 및 남원통의 토주에서 alachlor는 0.265 PV, 0.47 PV 및 1.86 PV이 유출되었을 때 처음 검출되었으며, chlorothalonil은 3.71 PV, 4.7 PV 및 17.5 PV에서 처음 검출되었다. 무릉통, 제주통 및 남원통의 토주를 통과한 alachlor의 상대농도 $C/C_o=1$로 유출되는 양은 각각 1.1 PV, 3.7 PV 및 6.6 PV이었으며, chlorothalonil의 상대농도 $C/C_o=0.2$로 유출되는 양은 7.5 PV, 8.5 PV 및 27.5 PV로서 토양별 이동속도는 무릉통>제주통${\gg}$남원통이었다. 유출액중에 alachlor 및 chlorothalonil의 상대농도 $C/C_o=0.5$$C/C_o=0.05$가 검출되는데 소요된 유출액의 양과 분배계수값 사이에는 매우 높은 유의성을 갖고 있었다.

연속 안정화 공법을 이용한 중금속 오염 농경지 토양 안정화 처리를 위한 Column 실험 연구 (The Laboratory Column Examination of Stabilization for Agricultural Land Contaminated by Heavy Metals using Sequential Stabilization)

  • In order to treat paddy soils contaminated by Pb, Cd, and As near the abandoned mine, $H_2PO_4$ was used for stabilization of Pb ($PO_4$/Pb mole ratio of 2/1). In addition, $CaCO_3$ and $FeSO_4$ were used as stabilizers for treating Cd and As (2% w/w), respectively. Leaching tests were conducted with artificial rain in the column to assess the heavy metal stabilization efficiency. The mass of heavy metals in the effluents passed through the columns were analyzed. The remaining heavy metals in the soils were also analyzed as Korean soil standard method, phytoavailability test and sequential extraction test. Lead in the effluent was not detected when $H_2PO_4$ was used as a stabilizer. This result suggests that $H_2PO_4$ is efficient for Pb stabilization. In addition results of sequential extraction scheme suggest that heavy metals are present as residual forms which is not easily extracted.

농경지의 비료, 농약의 지하유실량 추정 -Preferential 흐름모형- (Estimating Leaching of Nutrients and Pesticides in Agricultural Lands -A Perferential Flow Model-)

  • The application of nutrients and pesticides to agricultural lands has been reported to contribute to groundwater contamination, which can be explained by preferential flow in lieu of convective-dispersive flow. An one-dimensional numerical model depicting preferential water and solute movement was modified to describe multi-layer flows. The model is based on a piecewise linear conductivity function. By combining conservation of mass and Darcy's law and using the method of characteristics a solution is obtained for water flow in which water moves at distinct velocities in different flow regions instead of an average velocity for the whole profile. The model allows transfer ofqr solutes between pore groups. The transfer is characterized by assuming mixing coefficients. The model was applied to undisturbed soil columns and an experiment site with structured sandy clay loam soil. Chloride, bromide, and 2, 4-D were used as tracers. Simulated solutes concentrations were in good agreement with the soil column data and field data in which preferential flow of solute is significant. The proposed model is capable of describing preferential solute transport under laboratory and field conditions.

  • The present trend of disposing treated sewage water by allowing it to infiltrate the soil brings a new dimension to environmental problems. It is therefore necessary to identify the chemicals likely to be present in treated sewage water. A soil column experiment was conducted to determine the behavior of chemical species in soil columns applied with secondary treated sewage water. To predict the behavior of chemical species, a multicomponent solute transport model that includes the biochemical redox process and cation exchange process was developed. The model computes changes in concentration over time caused by the processes of advection, dispersion, biochemical reactions and cation exchange reactions. The solute transport model was able to predict the behavior of the different chemical species. The model reproduced the sequential reduction reaction. To design the safe depth of plow layer where $NO_3^-$ is totally reduced, a numerical study of $NO_3^-$ leach was done and it was found out that the pore velocity and concentration of $CH_2O$ at the inject water was found to affect $NO_3^-$ reduction in the mobile pore water phase. It is revealed that the multicomponent solute transport model is useful to design the land treatment system for $NO_3^-$ removal from wastewater.

Field behaviour geotextile reinforced sand column

  • Stone columns (or granular column) have been used to increase the load carrying capacity and accelerating consolidation of soft soil. Recently, the geosynthetic reinforced stone column technique has been developed to improve the load carrying capacity of the stone column. In addition, reinforcement prevents the lateral squeezing of stone in to surrounding soft soil, helps in easy formation of stone column, preserve frictional properties of aggregate and drainage function of the stone column. This paper investigates the improvement of load carrying capacity of isolated ordinary and geotextile reinforced sand column through field load tests. Tests were performed with different reinforcement stiffness, diameter of sand column and reinforcement length. The results of field load test indicated an improved load carrying capacity of geotextile reinforced sand column over ordinary sand column. The increase in load carrying capacity depends upon the sand column diameter, stiffness of reinforcement and reinforcement length. Also, the partial reinforcement length about two to four time's sand column diameter from the top of the column was found to significant effect on the performance of sand column.

  • DCM공법(심층혼합처리 공법)은 흙막이 벽체 등 구조물 조성에 적용하였다. 이러한 DCM 벽체는 경질층에서 관입능력이 있어야 한다. DCM 장비에 부착된 교반날개에 의해 경질지반의 관입능력이 증가되는 알아보기 위해 특수교반날개가 고안되었다. 경질점토층에 관입되는 특수교반날개의 관입특성은 김해와 인천현장에서 조사하였다. 고안한 특수교반날개는 관입속도가 다소 느려도 N=30 이상 되는 지반까지 관입되었고 관입시 효율이 경질지반에서 낮아질 수 있으므로 경제적인 교반날개의 관입깊이를 분석하였다.

Earthquake risk assessment of seismically isolated extradosed bridges with lead rubber bearings

  • This study presents a method to evaluate the seismic risk of an extradosed bridge with seismic isolators of lead rubber bearings (LRBs), and also to show the effectiveness of the LRB isolators on the extradosed bridge, which is one of the relatively flexible and lightly damped structures in terms of seismic risk. Initially, the seismic vulnerability of a structure is evaluated, and then the seismic hazard of a specific site is rated using an earthquake data set and seismic hazard maps in Korea. Then, the seismic risk of the structure is assessed. The nonlinear seismic analyses are carried out to consider plastic deformation of bridge columns and the nonlinear characteristics of soil foundation. To describe the nonlinear behaviour of a column, the ductility demand is adopted, and the moment-curvature relation of a column is assumed to be bilinear hysteretic. The fragility curves are represented as a log-normal distribution function for column damage, movement of superstructure, and cable yielding. And the seismic hazard at a specific site is estimated using the available seismic hazard maps. The results show that in seismically-isolated extradosed bridges under earthquakes, the effectiveness of the isolators is much more noticeable in the columns than the cables and girders.

미생물에 의해 생성된 탄산 칼슘 침전이 식물 생장에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Microbially Induced Calcite Precipitation on Plant Growth)

  • 미생물에 의한 탄산칼슘 침전(MICP)은 생물학적 기술로 지반의 공학적 특성을 향상시키는 개량공법이다. 본 논문에서는 식물 생장에 MICP 약액의 농도가 미치는 영향을 분석하였다. 큰김의털 종자를 주문진 표준사로 채워진 식물 용기에서 생장시킨 다음에 표면 처리법으로 MICP 약액을 살포하였다. 실험 결과는 MICP 약액이 처리된 식물의 줄기 생장은 무처리 식물과 비교하여 억제되었다. MICP 약액으로 인한 토양의 화학적 성분 변화를 분석하기 위해 pH와 전기전도도를 측정하였으며, pH는 MICP 약액 처리와 상관 없이 모든 경우에서 pH 7에 가까운 중성상태를 보였지만, 전기전도도는 MICP 약액의 농도가 높을수록 증가하였다. MICP 처리 과정에서 발생한 이온들이 식물 뿌리 주변 토양의 삼투압을 증가시켜 식물 성장에 필요한 물과 양분의 흡수를 저해하였고, 궁극적으로 식물 생장을 억제하였기 때문이다.
