  • In 2002, a new solar spectroscopic system with the Coelostat type has been installed at Korea Astronomical Observatory. It was designed to observe solar spectra in the range from 3000 to 8000${\AA}$ with the spectral resolution of 1${\AA}$/mm. The system is composed of a 40cm diameter Coelostat with 9m focal length, spectroscopic system with 600groove/mm grating, and a IK ${\times}$ IK CCD detector. By developing observational softwares for this system, we have successfully observed solar Ha spectra. In this paper, we development of telescope control and observational softwares.

  • During the last few decades, the frequency and distribution of rockfalls have been increased in Korea due the development of rock slope in mountain areas. Although the scale of, falling block of rockfall was small, there were some casualties of lives and loss of properties. In order to reduce damage from rockfall, analysis on rock slope indanger of rockfall should be carried out. Thus, the simulation softwares for rockfall behavior analysis have been introduced. In this study, geotechnical investigation and input data for rockfall simulation are described with the comparison among four commercially available rockfall simulation softwares. Finally, rockfall simulation works are described by exmining a case of inaccessible rock-slope of potential rockfall in Korea.

  • Muffler sound quality of a vehicle has widely been evaluated using commercial softwares. However, the commercial softwares are providing only simple sound quality index. To get better sound quality evaluation method of the muffler, a new approach is suggested based on the subjective sound quality test. The suggested subjective sound quality evaluation method is refined with the fuzzy theory. The developed method is applied for the evaluation of various kinds of vehicle muffler sounds.

  • The Digital Single Lens Reflex (DSLR) camera combined with a small aperture telescope is an efficient equipment for an astronomy-related lab exercise. This paper compares the different photometry softwares to provide insights on using the GUI-based photometry tool to the conventional command-line based photometry tool. The magnitude of the same point source measured within the aperture is consistent regardless of the software used although the background estimation, partial pixel treatment, and error estimation are slightly different. In a crowded field image where the aperture photometry is less reliable, the aperture photometry with varying aperture size is useful to see the qualitative trend for the magnitude. Due to the variation in ISO settings and the color dependence on the RGB Bayer system, an initial uncertainty of ~0.15mag is expected to be embedded in the magnitude derived from the DSLR images.

  • This paper presents a method for building a real-time kernel of autonomous mobile robot control systems. Until now, most of robots have their own operation softwares dedicated only for their use. Sometimes, operation softwares were developed based on MS-DOS or other real -time kernel based on UNIX. However, MS-DOS has many restrictions for use as a robot operation system. Also, mix based real-time kernel has some Limitations for use with mobile robots. So, in this paper, we focus on building a real-time kernel based on Linux. The in this paper, the software modules of Task Management, Memory Management, Intertask Communication, and Synchronization are redesigned. To show the efficiency of the paper, it was applied to run Nomad Super Scout II avoiding obstacles detected by sonar sensor array.

  • Utilizing pump selection softwares is becoming a new general trend in pump industries, substituting the old fashioned pump catalogs. One of the most powerful pump selection softwares is developed, which features pump performance viscosity correction function as well as pump selection based on the exact pump performance curves, NPSH warning, automatic determination of impeller diameter cutting to meet the customer's performance specification, performance simulation for the rpm and diameter variation, standard motor recommendation according to the motor standards and enclosure types and automatic pump datasheet generation for sales submission, automatic pump drawings and dimension generation for installation check and part preparation. This software provides pump distributors and customers with a quick, easy and exact pump selection, various performance curves review (system curves, performance curve of series or parallel operation) of the selected pumps.

  • An urban transit is representative public transportation which lots of people take everyday. Especially, the station of urban transit is one of the very important public civil infrastructures. From the teachings of subway fire disaster occurred at Daegu on 2003, a certain incident might create large numbers of deaths or injuries and a lot of damages to the subway station without having an accurate grasp of emergency situation and doing proper action on the situation. Therefore, the passive surveillance system, which means the present CCTV based system, needs to be changed into the active one. The active surveillance system is the CCTV based system with intelligent softwares which affords to prevent a certain incident or trouble and its aggravation. In this paper, the state of the art of the representative companies developing intelligent softwares and its application sites of Australia and Hong Kong are briefly introduced. Finally, with the consideration of its recent trends, some technical contents for the intelligent surveillance system of domestic urban transit are briefly described.

  • 3D graphic softwares have brought design spaces beyond the limitations of Euclidean space. Moreover, as computational geometry has been considered together with algorithms, generative algorithms are being evolved. Recently 3D graphic softwares with the embedded generative algorithms allow designers to design free form curves and surfaces in a systematic way. While architectural design has been greatly affected by the advancement of 3D graphic technology, such attention has not given in the realm of structural design. Grasshopper is a platform in Rhino to deal with these Generative Algorithms and Associative modelling techniques. This study has tried to develop a module for preliminary structural configuration using Rhino with Grasshopper. To verify the proposed concept in this study, a module for designing a basic type of suspension structure is introduced.

  • It is very important to evaluate the quality of soft wares based on SOA, which develops rapidly. Particularly, one of the most important properties influencing on the quality of system is complexity. Therefore, we propose the metrics for measuring a structural complexity of softwares based on SOA. The proposed metrics is composed of the size of a service, the depth of a service and interdependency from the viewpoint of system structure, and finally we applied the proposed metric to an example.

  • Because of kinematic complexities, nonlinear behavior, etc, the performance of oleo-pneumatic landing gear is predicted by qualified commercial softwares. While commercial softwares predict more exactly, it takes a long time to construct or modify a model. At initial design stage, design parameters can be determined quickly and exactly enough with simple 2 degree of freedom model of mass, spring and damping. 2 degree of freedom model can be easily applied to optimization and reliability analysis which takes repetitive computation. In this paper, oleo-pneumatic landing gear is modeled as a nonlinear 2 degree of freedom model. The analysis are compared with landing gear drop test. To determine design parameter, optimization problem is solved with genetic algorithm and 2 degree of freedom model.
