  • Since the concept of software engineering was first used in 1968 by NATO Science Committee, a lot of research work and improvements have been made on software development methodology and software quality control, but they still fall short of ensuring successful development of small and medium scale software systems. Under these circumstances, Center for Software Engineering (CSE) at National IT Industry Promotion Agency(NIPA) has been conducting studies on quality control methodologies of software visualization well-suited for small and medium scale software systems, and also working on the systemization and quantification of software quality control. In this paper, we attempt to scope on the software development management of domestic and foreign small and medium-sized enterprises that are lying in the blind spot, compared to large enterprises with well-organized software development systems. In particular, based on software visualization that CSE is pursuing for small and medium-sized developers, we propose a practical quality control methodology well-suited for small and medium scale projects, and a low-cost quality control management tool by combining open-source quality control tools. Our proposal is expected to induce developers' mind change in SI-specialized small and medium-sized software enterprises, increase their profits and improve customer satisfaction through project quality control.

  • The railway system is being converted to the computer system from the existing mechanical device, and the dependency on software is being increased rapidly. Though the size and degree of complexity of software for railway system are slower than the development speed of hardware, it is expected that the size will be grown bigger gradually and the degree of complexity will be increased also. Accordingly, the validation of reliability and safety of embedded software for railway system was started to become influential as the important issue. Accordingly, various software test and validation activities are highly recommended in the international standards related railway software. In this paper, we presented a software coding analysis tool using symbolic execution for railway system, and presented its result of implementation.

  • Software measurement is a key factor in managing, controlling, and improving the software development processes. Software quality is one of the most important factors for assessing the global competitive position of any software company. Thus the quantification of quality parameters and integrating them into quality models is very essential. Software quality criteria are not very easily measured and quantified. Many attempts have been made to exactly quantify the software quality parameters using various models such as ISO/IEC 9126 Quality Model, Boehm's Model, McCall's model, etc. In this paper an attempt has been made to provide a tool for precisely quantifying software quality factors with the help of quality factors stated in ISO/IEC 9126 model. Due to the unpredictable nature of the software quality attributes, the fuzzy multi criteria approach has been used to evolve the quality of the software.

  • As the use of digital systems becomes more prevalent, adequate techniques for software specification and analysis have become increasingly important in nuclear power plant (NPP) safety-critical systems. Additionally, the importance of software verification and validation (V&V) based on adequate specification has received greater emphasis in view of improving software quality. For thorough V&V of safety-critical systems, V&V should be performed throughout the software lifecycle. However, systematic V&V is difficult as it involves many manual-oriented tasks. Tool support is needed in order to more conveniently perform software V&V. In response, we developed four kinds of computer aided software engineering (CASE) tools to support system specification for a formal-based analysis according to the software lifecycle. In this work, we achieved optimized integration of each tool. The toolset, NuSEE, is an integrated environment for software specification and V&V for PLC based safety-critical systems. In accordance with the software lifecycle, NuSEE consists of NuSISRT for the concept phase, NuSRS for the requirements phase, NuSDS for the design phase and NuSCM for configuration management. It is believed that after further development our integrated environment will be a unique and promising software specification and analysis toolset that will support the entire software lifecycle for the development of PLC based NPP safety-critical systems.

  • To plan a software project, the manager (1)make a work breakdown structure (WBS), (2) estimate efforts for each task, (3) assign employee to each task, and (4) estimate overall schedule. When software project becomes complicated, the possible combination of WBS, effort, and employee assignments dramatically becomes larger. Software planning tool can help software project managers to deal with this complexity. In this research, we discuss with a group of experts who work in software industry, to elicit practical requirements that should be considered in the software planning technique. Considering these requirements, we develop a software project planning tool APP (Automatic Project Planner) which provide effort estimation based on historical knowledge data and automatic human resource allocation. Our technique can be the basis of reasonable and practical software project planing.

  • The CAM software for drill grinding has been developed to save time, reduce cost for tool manufacturing and obtain accuracy of tool. In this paper, the developing software for drill will be presented including calculation and simulation of machining processes using 5-axes CNC grinding machine. The algorithm fer helical flute grinding was applied into calculating NC data. The software will generate NC code for machining by using input data of tool geometry, wheel geometry, wheel setting, machine setting. These NC code files will be used in simulator as input file. The simulator provides some functions for simulating machining processes, inspecting and measuring tool geometry.

  • This research provide the basic information to enhance the user-orientedness of usability design guidelines for software products and an effective empirical guidance to classify design attributes of internet shopping mall sites. The results of analysis show that design attributes can be classified into the procedural attribute group, the shopping tool attribute group, the visual attribute group, linguistic attribute group, and others. The results show that shopping tool attribute group can be divided further into the search tool attribute group and purchase tool attribute group and that the visual attribute group can be divided further into the screen condition attribute group and the character legibility attribute group. The research reveals that when designers design software interfaces and features they should take the compound effect of a group of design attributes into consideration to enhance the usability of the system.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop a systematic tool which can reduce the abstractness of the structured programming disciplines by a system. The system is an interactive software which forces the user to think and write software in a hierarchical stepwise refinement fashion for an implementation of the software design. The program produced by the system has a program control structure and a logic flow which are very easy to recognize. The modification of a program is, therefore, easier to attain by altering the specifications of the modules involved. It is possible to reduce the programming errors because of those characteristics.

  • In this paper, we present a novel approach to help MSR researchers obtain necessary data with a tool, termed General Purpose Extractor for Source code (GPES). GPES has a single function extracts high-quality data, e.g., the version history, abstract syntax tree (AST), changed code diff, and software quality metrics. Moreover, features such as an AST of other languages or new software metrics can be extended easily given that GPES has a flexible data model and a component-based design. We conducted several case studies to evaluate the usefulness and effectiveness of our tool. Case studies show that researchers can reduce the overall cost of data analysis by transforming the data into the required formats.

  • Quality of the software is affected by quality of data required for operating the actual software. Especially, it is important that assure the quality of data in a knowledge-engineering system that extracts the meaningful knowledge from stored data. In this paper, we developed DAQUM tool that can measure quality of data. This paper shows: 1) main contents for implement of DAQUM tool; 2) detection of dirty data via DAQUM tool through case study and measurement of data quality which is quantifiable from end-user's point of view. DAQUM tool will greatly contribute to improving quality of software product that processes mainly the data through control and measurement of data quality.
