  • The purpose of this study is to suggest a method for identifying target markets of potential urban park users by their sociodemographic variables. Data was classified into(ⅰ) users vs. nonusers ; (ⅱ) of chosen three urban parks ; or(ⅲ) users of each urban park then analyzed by discriminant analysis. The results showed that linear combination of selected sociodemographic variables could be used for identifying target markets in some cases. In general, season and sex were the most powerful discriminant variables. But the other cases were not satisfactory. The weak points of this study due to adapting secondary data for analysis were discussed.

  • PURPOSE. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of sociodemographic factors on quality of satisfaction towards denture treatment. MATERIALS AND METHODS. One hundred subjects (filling inclusion criteria) who were wearing a denture for at least two months were enrolled and divided into five groups on the basis of sociodemographic variables (age, gender, literacy level, socio-economic and marital status). Questionnaires consisting of 38 questions (positive and negative attitude towards denture satisfaction) related to patients' perception of clinical outcome in different domains such as mastication, appearance, speech, comfort, health, denture care and social status were scored by the subjects. Questions reflecting positive attitude were scored as 2, 1, or 0 (yes, uncertain and no, respectively) and reversely for the negative questions. Statistical analysis was done by using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (${\alpha}$= .05). RESULTS. Level of denture satisfaction was higher in age subgroup belonging to 45 - 65 years of age in relation to comfort, health and denture care. Female and male showed significant priority for denture treatment because of esthetic and function respectively. Level of satisfaction was statistically significant with literacy level. Upper high income group showed significantly higher level of satisfaction only in case of social status. Married group showed significantly higher satisfaction level only with comfort. CONCLUSION. Patients' sociodemographic variables were influential factors on denture satisfaction.

  • Objectives: This study aims to examine factors affecting depression of Older Adults by using the data of the elderly survey conducted by the Korea Institute of Health and Social Affairs in 2020. Methods: The total sample was 4,777 people aged over 65 years old. In this study, sociodemographic variables, information devices'use behavior and discomfort variables were input to examine the effect on depression. The data was analyzed with t2-test, ANOVA and hierarchical regression by SPSS statistic program. Results: First, use behavior and discomfort of information devices and depression were significantly different by sociodemographic variables(sex, age, level of education, marital status). Secondly, regression analysis showed that age and level of education affected an influence on depression in Model 1, which analyzed only sociodemographic variables. However, Model 2, which analyzed devices' use behavior and discomfort variables at the same time, showed that they affected depression. Conclusions: It was suggested to develop customized health education and mental health promotion were needed to reduce depression in the elderly.

  • Living arrangement is considered an important variable in discussing loneliness and the psychological state of the elderly. From this point of view, this study aimed at Identifying the effects of living arrangements, sociodemographic variables, social activities, and social psychological variables on the psychological loneliness of the rural elderly. Though hierarchical regression analyses. the predictors of loneliness among the rural elderly were identified as single/co-residence living arrangement(r=.49), sense of well-being based on respects for others' perspectives (r: -.22), needs for remarriage (r=.22), and work hours during off- farming season (r: -.19). The effects of living arrangement remained strong and were not influenced by the addition of sociodemographic variables, social activity variable, and social psychological variables. The feeling of loneliness of the elderly who were living alone was higher than among the elderly who were living with someone else. This finding suggests that the loneliness of the rural elderly derives primarily from the lack of family Interaction. Therefore, it is recommended that social welfare policies for the rural elderly be designed to improve their family and social interactions.

  • Objectives: This study investigates lay beliefs about the etiology and treatments of tic disorder and Tourette's syndrome, as well as identifying sociodemographic and personality variables affecting these beliefs among South Koreans. Methods: In total, 673 participants (mean age $41.77{\pm}12.03$ years) completed an online survey regarding their beliefs about tic disorder and Tourette's syndrome. The factors related to their lay beliefs about the disorders were analyzed, and the correlates were investigated. Results: Results indicated that lay people in South Korea held strong beliefs that the causes of tic disorder and Tourette's syndrome lie within the parenting/psychological and neurological/biological categories, compared to the dietary/environmental one. Among the sociodemographic variables, sex, age, and levels of subjective mental health knowledge were primarily associated with the aforementioned beliefs. Familiarity with tic disorder and Tourette's syndrome was also associated with these beliefs. Among the personality traits investigated, extraversion and conscientiousness had significant influences on the beliefs people had about tic disorder and Tourette's syndrome. Conclusion: The results suggest that both policy makers and mental health service providers should adopt a strategic approach for developing and implementing health education interventions about tic disorder and Tourette's syndrome because individual sociodemographic variables, familiarity with the disorders, and personality traits are all associated with the beliefs about these disorders.

  • The purpose of this study was to explore the dynamics of stepfamilies and the adjustment difficulties such families may experience. The study describes some sociodemographic characteristics of a sample of 117 stepfamilies. The independent variables were stresses due to adjustment difficulties, which were defined as "role strains". Sociodemographic variables included gender, family income level, length of time since remarriage, type of stepfamily, and the existence of any children born to the new marriage. The dependent variable was the extent of stepfamily adjustment, expressed as a scale. The factors influencing family adjustment included stepparent gender, family income level, type of stepfamily, and various role strain variables (family boundary ambiguity, role conflict, etc.). Practical recommendations for social work are made and possibilities for future research in this area are discussed based on the results of this study.

  • The purposes of this study are 1) to explore the evaluating attribute of family life- insurance 2) to examine the relationship between evaluation attribute variables and level of consumer satisfaction/ dissatisfaction (CS/D), and 3) to investigate the sociodemographic variables and psychological variables which influence the purchase of life-insurance. The data used in this study include 432 households of 208 life-insurance purchasers and 224 non-purchasers Statistics used for the data analysis are x2, factor analysis, multiple regression and a discriminant analysis. The resulting major findings are as follows; 1) The evaluating attributes are saving function, convenience. economic payoff, safety for future accident, agreement of insurance, and reputation of brand. 2) Among these factors. the most important factors. in CS/D of life-insurance are saving function, and reputation of brand. 3) the purchase of life-insurance has been influenced by such sociodemographic variables as husband's age , family income, and family life-cycle. Psychological variables such as attitude of life, perceived risk, consumer attitude about insurance business did not influence the purchase of life -insurance significantly. As mentioned above, we can conclude that Korean purchasers of life-insurance are using irrational evaluating attributes. Therefore more education of the consumers and more information about life-insurance purchases are necessary. Especially low-income households and first step of family life-cycle families are turned out to need more education as well as more information.

  • Correlations among body weight and sociodemographic factors, including life - style were tested as social determinants of health in a sample of 5,201 adults in Korea. The aim of this study was to determine the extent to which sociodemographic variables and life-style associated health behaviors explain body weight distribution. A second aim was to explain the relation of body weight and health status to stress the importance of body weight as an early risk indicator of health status. The canonical correlation between the weight distribution(underweight and overweight) and the independent variables was 0.29, 17% of the total variance was explained. Perceived health level represented the highest contribution(canonical coefficient 0.82) to body weight. Sociodemographic factors such as sex, economic status, and life-style factors such as smoking, exercise, regular meais and sleep showed comparatively high contributions to body weight. The relevance of body weight for health status including the rate of chronic disease and the rate of medical utilization was significant. Especially, underweight was clarified as being mere important than overweight to morbidity level and medical utilization. These findings suggest that perceived body weight is an important indicator of health status and is thus a valuable variable to be considered for nursing intervention and health education related to the promotion of health.
