The Family's primary social network, the Family's participation in social networks, and Social networks in job hunting, by Social class (사회계층별로 본 가족의 주요 사회망, 사회망과 가족의 참여 및 구직과 사회망)

  • This study investigated how different relationships the family has with its social networks by social class. Among research families' primary social networks, the wife's relatives are the most, the neighbor the second, the husband's relative the third, and the church (or other religious groups) the fourth. Social class does not make any difference in what social network is the family's primary social network. When the husband or the wife participates in a social network, he or she tends to participate alone without his or her spouse. When the husband's educational level is high, the wife tends to participate in her alumni association alone. When the husband is in a professional or a white-collar occupation, he is likely to socialize with his work associates alone. On the contrary, when the family income gets high, the husband tends to bring his wife to his alumni association. When looking for a job, most husbands and wives do not resort to a social network for help. Lower-class people are more likely to obtain jobs through their social networks compared to higher-class people. That is, the lower one's educational levle, one's occupational status, or the family income is, the more likely one gets help from some social networks in searching jobs.

Functional and Physical Changes of Social Lifespaces in Korean Family Houses (주택내의 사회공간의 물리적 특성과 기능의 변천에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to identify general characteristics of social lifespaces in Korean family houses and to investigate the changes in the physical aspects and room functions of social lifespaces from Yi-dynasty to the present. The documentary research method was used for this study. Total of 972 out of 1,109 floor plans were analyzed for this study. The major findings were that changes of social lifespaces from Yi-dynasty to the present have been affected by natural and socio-cultural environments. The changes in the physical aspects of social lifespaces have shown from one or two social lifespaces to various single-purpose social lifespaces such as living room, family room, drawing room, and study room. In the past, the cnetral social lifespaces, Anbang(women's quarter) was larger than the living room/Daechung(wooden floor) but the living room in the present has become a central social lifespaces and larger. The room function of Anbang has changed from multi-purpose space to private space. Living room/Daechung had used as a pathway rather than a social lifespaces in the past but the living room has played many fuctional roles of family social activities in the present. The kitchen has also begun to use as a social lifespace. This is a new symptom that kitchen and dining spaces will be included as a new social lifespaces.

A Study on the Relationship between Perceived Grandparent's Social Support and Children's Social Competence (아동이 지각한 조부모의 사회적 지지와 아동의 사회적 능력과의 관계)

  • In general, grandparents have been very influential resource persons on their grandchildren's gross development. Nevertheless it has been difficult to find many empirical studies that focused on the specific competence of grandchildren and showed strong evidence in its regard. Therefore this study was intented to investigate the influence of grandparents' social support on their grandchildren's social competence in the light of grandparent's social support on their grandchildren's social competence in the light of grandchildren-grandparent relationship. The subjects were 230 fifth grade children in elementary school who were 123 boys and 107 girls. Among them, 94 children were related with grandfathers, 167 children with grandmothers 101 children with maternal grandfathers and 182 children with maternal grandmothers. The questionaire was used as a methodological instrument and the statistics such as frequency, percentile, mean, Pearson's correlation, One-Way ANOVA and Scheff test were used for data analysis. The findings were as follows : 1) Children's affectional intimacy to grandparent was positively correlated with perceived grandparent's social support. 2) Perceived grandparent's social support was affirmatively correlated with grandparent-mother relationship, that is, grandchildren-grandparent relationship was mediated by mother. And 3) children who more perceived grandparent's social support than less perceived grandparent's social support were highly rated I social competence by teacher. In the result, children emotionally, informatively and instrumentally supported by paternal or maternal grandparents showed high social competence defined supported by paternal or maternal grandparents showed high social competence defined as interpersonal relationship ability on the significant level respectively.

The Impact of Social Media on Firm Value: A Case Study of Oil and Gas Firms in Indonesia

  • The development of Internet technology can affect firm value through the use of social media by business people. Nowadays, social media affect businesses of all sizes in several different ways. Despite the various benefits obtained by using social media, research at the organizational level and its impact on business performance have not grown as fast as desired. This research aims to examine the effect of social media on oil and gas firms' value. The research sample consists of 9 oil and gas firms listed on the Indonesian Stock Exchange 2013-2018. Social media proxies are firms' social media, other social media mentions, and social media sentiment. Firm value is measured by the market value to assets ratio. Data analysis uses a random-effect regression test. Based on the analysis, the social media account of a firm has a positive effect on firm value. It indicates that social media give advantages for oil and gas firms to give a signal of business prospect, make use of opportunities related to industry alliances, recruit employees globally, and c. On the other hand, the positive sentiment on social media has no effect on oil and gas firms' value.

The Effects of Children's Elementary School Entance Age and Sex on Cognitive and Social Abilities (아동의 초등학교 입학연령과 성에 따른 인지적.사회적 능력)

  • The purpose of this study was to find out the effects of children's elementary school entrance age and sex on cognitive and social abilities. The subjects were 80 the same number was slected by elementary school entrance age(5-year and 6-year) and sex. Their cognitive and social abilities were measured by Intelligence Maturity Test and Revised Vineland Adaptive Behavior Scales. The data were statistically analyzed including descriptive statistics and multivariate analysis of variance. The results were as follows: 1) 6-year-old children had higher perceptive ability of sameness and calculation ability than 5-year-old children. Girls also had higher IQ and language concept than boys, 2) 6-year-old children's communication socialization and total social ability were higher than those of 5-year old children Girls' communication and total social ability were higher than those of boys. The implication was that it would be important to consider children's social ability if their entrance age were decided. In addition Early Entrance to Elementary School system should be reconsidered in the point of childer's developmental adaptation.

The Development and Effectiveness of an Educational Program for Improving Single Mother's Adaptation (여성 한부모의 사회적응력 향상을 위한 교육프로그램 개발 및 효과)

  • The purpose of this study was to develop an educational program that enhances a single mother's social adaptation (self-esteem and sociality) based on the precedent studies. The subjects of this program were seven single motherswholive in C city in Chung Cheong Namdo. Paired-Sample t-test, individual change and group processing description data, and behavior observation record data were analyzed. Research results are as follows based on the research questions. First, a group of 8 single mothers who participated in the program showed an improvement of their social adaptation. Therefore, the effectiveness of the educational program was verified. Second, as the group session went on, the cohesion among the group members was solidified and their will to participate in the program was increased. Third, generally, individuals' understanding, acceptance, and adaptation toward themselves and others were enhanced. On the whole, the educational program for improving single mother's social adaptation was verified. We need to develop and implement more programs that enhance single mother's social adaptation in the future.
