In Korean society, words related to misogyny are being created and spread out in the Internet communities and the Internet news posts comments. This study was conducted to investigate if exposure to misogynistic words affects misogynistic attitudes toward women. Study 1 examined the relationship between exposure of misogynistic words (the number of misogynistic words known and the level of Internet comments viewed) and explicit misogynistic attitudes. As a result, the greater the exposure of misogynistic words, the less explicit misogynistic attitudes were found among men. The result can be explained as a desensitization of stimuli caused by repetitive exposure to media. In Study 2, experiments were conducted to manipulate the exposure of misogynistic words and to identify the relationship between implicit misogynistic attitudes through implicit association tests. Results of analysis show that implicit misogyny attitude is stronger as male participants are exposed to misogynistic words. The finding of this study suggests that explicit and implicit attitudes toward misogyny can diverge. It also implies that the exposure to misogynistic words can affect men's and women's attitudes in a different manner.
The purpose of the study was to find out the effects of women's gender role attitudes on depression. We also studied self-esteem and family life satisfaction as mediating factors on depression. The data was from the National Welfare Panel Study of 2009 and the analyses were conducted on 3,791 women and 3,467 men aged from 20 to 59. Independent samples t-test and stepwise multiple regression analyses show significant gender differences on depression and gender role attitudes. Women score higher than men in depression and gender role attitudes. Those who have higher traditional gender role attitudes manifest higher score on depression. We also found out that self-esteem and family life satisfaction are the mediating factors for women's depression. As a result, gender role attitudes demonstrate direct and indirect effects on depression through mediation of self-esteem and family life satisfaction. Clinical implications are discussed to consider women's gender role attitudes, their self-esteem and family life satisfaction while consulting with depressed women.
This study examines how individual attitudes towards government and society are affected by political conservatism and liberalism. With survey data from 533 adults(M=249, F=284) who live in Seoul and surrounding areas, we examine the general attitudes towards society, expectation on general government and differences in attitudes towards the Roh Moo-hyun Gov't and the Lee Myung-bak Gov't between liberals and conservatives. Results show that liberals and conservatives vary by age and residence, whereas attitudes towards the general government and society are not. By contrast, liberals and conservatives are distinctly different evaluating governments with specific political tendency. Liberals are more positive to the Roh Moo-hyun Gov't than conservatives whereas the evaluation appears conversely on the Lee Myung-bak Gov't. These differences of attitudes are more distinctive when dividing liberals and conservatives by subjective judgement and political party preference than conceptual measurement of political ideology. These findings suggest that political conservatism and liberalism is the factor that has powerfully affected individual attitudes in the specific political context rather than a consistent ideological framework in Korean society.
The present research examined the proposition that once people violate traffic regulations, they would experience cognitive dissonance and subsequently engage in changing their attitudes toward the law negatively in order to reduce the dissonance. In an experiment, participants were presented with three scenarios in which a person violated traffic laws, and they were asked to imagine themselves as the person of the scenarios and write statements supporting the unlawful behaviors. Participants' attitudes toward the general traffic law and the regulations related to the violations were measured 8 weeks before and right after the experimental treatment. The results, as expected, showed that their attitudes toward the general traffic law and the specific regulations in the scenarios changed negatively after writing the statements. In each secnarios, the participants who chose to wrote statements supporting the unlawful behaviors showed great attitude changes that those who did not write the statements. Furthermore, attitudes toward the regulations that were not directly related to the scenarios did not change significantly, and participants who were expected to experience stronger dissonance arousal (e.g.., supported more unlawful behaviors or had have more positive attitudes toward the law before the experiment) showed greater attitude changes. These results support the effects of trivial unlawful behaviors on attitudes toward the law and strongly suggest the role of cognitive dissonance underlying the effects.
The study intended to explore not only what are the outcomes of employees' participation in corporate philanthropic activities, such as donation or volunteering, but also how their participation achieves the outcomes. In general, a specific corporate context is likely to lead employees to take part in corporate philanthropy in involuntary or passive ways. With this characteristics, employees' donation or volunteering at a working place has an impact on changes in their attitudes toward corporate social philanthropy and organizational commitment. The study also assumes that the changes in employees' attitudes have a mediate effect on their organizational commitment. The study conducted a survey for about 300 employees working at one of corporations in Seoul Metropolitan area. Based on a structural equation modelling analysis, the results showed that there was an indirect relationship between staffs' participations in corporate philanthropic activities and organizational commitment, which was mediated by employees' assessment and attitudes toward corporate philanthropy. Despite a limitation of the study sample, the study provided both an academic ground to discuss on employees' participation in corporate philanthropy, and a practical ground for corporate leaders to strategically consider how to encourage employees to participate in corporate philanthropic activities and to achieve its goal.
To provide a satisfactory life for the elderly females who are the most impoverished among the elderly social strata, this study is geared towards, and focused on, the exploration on their attitudes towards death. For the purpose of this study, in-depth interviews with females aged 65 and over, who are officially classified as the beneficiary of national fundamental livelihood security, have been conducted. Then, the results from these interviews have been compiled and analyzed through qualitative research methods. As a result of this research, the attitudes of the destitute elderly females towards death are categorized into several themes, such as 'Feeling close to the death through a hard life', 'Positive acceptance of the death', 'Relying on funeral services from government and religious organization', 'Hoping for a death with dignity'. The attitudes of death means to them that 'they can get out of a hard life', and elderly female beneficiaries were positive in their acceptance of this meaning. Those who could obtain funeral services as a part of assistance from government and a religious organization did not feel stressful about their funeral arrangements. However, there were individuals who didn't know if their funeral services would be covered by the government. They were unsure if a funeral service would be held for them, or they would have nobody to hold a funeral for them. Accordingly, they were worried about that. The poor elderly females were unhealthy and indigent, and so, they had death anxiety. Therefore, based on the study results above, some ideas regarding elderly welfare are proposed to enable poor elderly females to face their deaths with dignity.

This study aims to explore the possible ways to establish the effective medical supports for the sexual violence victims(svv). Using the data collected from 83 male and female doctors who are interested or involved in providing medical services for the victims, the doctors' attitudes toward the victims, medical services provided, and their needs for the possible medical supports were investigated. For comparison, 3 different groups of doctors were presented. The doctors who had treated svv(type1) seemed to have a difficulty in receiving the fee for the treatment of svv, and to have higher needs for the spermatic(fluid) test as well as the diverse supports for the testimony in courts. The doctors who had no experience of treatment, but were supposed to treat svv(type2) seemed to have negative attitudes toward the victims, and expect more difficulties in treating svv. The doctors of type2 had lower needs for the support for the specialized medical services and assessment of the sexual assault, but higher needs for the testimony supports. The doctors who had no experience of treatment, and were not supposed to treat svv(type3) appeared to have less negative attitudes toward the victims, but more knowledge of law and the community organizations for svv. The type3 doctors seemed to have higher needs for the supports for the specialized medical services, assessment for the sexual assault, and testimony in the courts. Based on the findings, the intervention strategies to create a new effective medical support system for the sexual violence victims were suggested.

This study contributed to the broading of dating violence research topics and provided the directions to the endavour to increase the use of professional services among college students
Purpose:The present study was to apply the Attitudes-Social influence-Efficacy (ASE) model in order to identify factors associated with the assertive behavior of non-smoking college students when they are exposed to secondhand smokes in Korea. Methods: Data were collected from non-smoking college students (N=1,656, 76.6% female) at two universities in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do. The main outcome measure was the assertive behavior. ASE factors such as attitudes toward being assertive, social influences, and self-efficacy as well as socio-demographic, health-related, and smoking-related factors were self-administrated. Results: The mean of the assertive behavior (range 1~5 points) was 2.23;37.6% was not at all assertive, while 4.3% was always assertive. Higher assertiveness was significantly correlated with a higher level of positive attitude, social influence and self-efficacy (p<.05 for all). Stepwise multiple regression analyses showed that the social influence was the strongest factor associated with the assertive behavior (${\beta}=0.430$, p<.001, $R^2$=.246), followed by self-efficacy, motive to assertiveness, having any family member who had diseases, and male gender. These factors explained the assertive behavior by 39.7%. Conclusion: The ASE model may explain the assertive behavior of non-smoking college students under secondhand smoke exposure. Social influence and self-efficacy were significant factors associated with their assertive behavior.
