  • The goal of this paper is to generalize the concept of Bezier curves and surfaces defined on the vector space $R_n$ to Lie groups, which is a new generation method of curves (called Bezier curves) on Lie groups. The defined Bezier curves and surfaces are alsways smooth because of the properties of Lie groups. We apply this method to smooth motion interpolation or smooth trajectory generation for moving rigid body in space.

  • The migration of vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMC) and the production of matrix metallopreteinases-9 (MMP-9) may play a key role in the development of atherosclerosis. In this study, we have more extensively investigated the inhibitory effect of UR on MMP-9 activity and TNF-${\alpha}$ induced human aortic smooth muscle cells (HASMC) migration. The result from gelatin zymography showed that UR inhibited MMP-9 activity in a dose-dependent manner (IC50 = 55 g/ml). In addition, UR strongly inhibited the migration of HASMC induced by TNF-treatment (IC50 = 125 g/ml), although it has very low cytotoxic effect on HASMC (IC50 > 500 g/ml). These results suggest that UR is a potential anti-atherosclerotic agent through inhibition of MMP-9 activity and VSMC migration.

  • I. Objectives This study was done to evaluate whether or not there are any differences in microleakage of the class 5 composite restoration that were filled at the smooth surface and the proximal surface respectively. In addition any differences between small and large-sized restoration were also studied. II. Materials and Methods Total sixty-four class 5 resin restorations, sixteen per group, were made in the permanent teeth. Two-sized cavities, small ($2{\;}{\times}{\;}2{\;}{\times}{\;}1.5{\;}mm$) and large ($4{\;}{\times}{\;}2{\;}{\times}{\;}1.5{\;}mm$), were filled at the smooth surface and the proximal surface each.(omitted)

  • Laminar heat transfer experiments were conducted in flat extruded aluminum tubes. Three different flat tubes-two with smooth inner channel, one with micro-finned inner channel-were tested. Smooth tube data were in reasonable agreement with the predictions by simplified theoretical models. The heat transfer coefficients of the micro-fin tube were significantly smaller than those of the smooth tube. The reason was attributed to the decelerating flow in the inter-fin region. Heat transfer correlations were developed from the data.

  • The probabilistic tsunami risk assessment of large coastal areas is challenging because the inland propagation of a tsunami wave requires an accurate numerical model that takes into account the interaction between the ground, the infrastructures, and the wave itself. Classic mesh-based methods face many challenges in the propagation of a tsunami wave inland due to their ever-moving boundary conditions. In alternative, mesh-less based methods can be used, but they require too much computational power in the far-field. This study proposes a hybrid approach. A mesh-based method propagates the tsunami wave from the far-field to the near-field, where the influence of the sea floor is negligible, and a mesh-less based method, smooth particle hydrodynamic, propagates the wave onto the coast and inland, and takes into account the wave structure interaction. Nowadays, this can be done because the advent of general purpose GPUs made mesh-less methods computationally affordable. The method is used to simulate the inland propagation of the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami off the coast of Indonesia.

  • The $Calder{\acute{o}}n$-Zygmund type estimate is proved for elliptic obstacle problems in bounded non-smooth domains. The problems are related to divergence form nonlinear elliptic equation with measurable nonlinearities. Precisely, nonlinearity $a({\xi},x_1,x^{\prime})$ is assumed to be only measurable in one spatial variable $x_1$ and has locally small BMO semi-norm in the other spatial variables x', uniformly in ${\xi}$ variable. Regarding non-smooth domains, we assume that the boundaries are locally flat in the sense of Reifenberg. We also investigate global regularity in the settings of weighted Orlicz spaces for the weak solutions to the problems considered here.

  • Naive Bayes (NB) assumption has some harmful effects in classification to the real world data. To relax this assumption, we now propose approach called Naive Bayes Mutual Information Attribute Weighting with Smooth Kernel Density Estimation (NBMIKDE) that combine the smooth kernel for attribute and attribute weighting method based on mutual information measure.

  • We investigated whether experimental esophagitis and IL-1$\beta$ could induce the activation of MAP kinases in esophageal smooth muscle. With two models of experimental esophagitis, we assessed the activity of p38 MAP kinase, p44/42 MAP kinase and JNK. In feline acute experimental esophagitis, immunoblotting of normal and esophagitis-induced smooth muscle with each types of MAP kinase antibodies revealed the slight increase of phosphorylated form of p38 MAP kinase, especially in membrane fraction. • We describe 7 cases of splenic smooth muscle tumors in dogs. Histopathological and immunohistochemical analysis revealed that 6 cases were diagnosed as splenic leiomyosarcoma and 1 case as leiomyoma. All dogs underwent splenectomy without chemotherapy, and one of them was euthanized 2 months after surgery because of hepatic metastasis. Of the remaining 6 dogs, 5 died in the postoperative period and only one dog survived > 4 years. The median survival of the 6 dogs was 16.9 months. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first detailed study on splenic smooth muscle tumors in dogs in Korea.
