  • In this article, we deal with a design problem for determining the levels of noise factors in the Taguchi method. First, the proposed levels by Taguchi method is reviewed in case of smaller-the-better performance characteristics. We obtain the optimal levels of noise factors minimizing the mean square error of SN(signal to Noise) ratio and compare the optimal levels with the levels proposed by Taguchi method under the first and second order models. Secondly, the concept of V-optimality is applied to determining the levels of noise factors.

  • We have examined the Ferroelectric properties of $PbZr_{0.4}Ti_{0.6}O_3$ (PZT) grains by monitoring the surface potential through the utilization of Kelvin force microscopy. Hysteretic and time dependent behaviors of small and large grains were compared with each other. The smaller grain yields had smaller values of surface potential. However, the normalized voltage versus surface potential behavior indicates that the smaller grains became saturated earlier with respect to the writing voltages than did the larger grains. On the other hand, the surface potential hysteresis loop obtained from the smaller grains showed a similar shape to what might be obtained from a Zr rich PZT film. In contrast the hysteresis loop of the larger grain looks like that obtained from a Ti-rich film. In addition, the time dependent behaviors of the smaller grains also revealed a better response than the response of larger grains. The overall ferroelectric properties of the smaller grains seem better than corresponding properties for larger grains. The Ti/Zr ratio of the PZT film which was examined in this study was 60/40.

  • The purpose of this paper is to propose an interactive method using the concept of SignaltoNoise (SN) ratios and cutting ranges for selecting the most preferred alternatives of Multipleattribute DecisionMaking(MADM) with thesmallerthebetter or thelargerthebetter characteristics. In this method the decision makers could make a grouping of attributes by their priorities. This research is based on the assumption of an equality between the attributes of MADM with the characteristics of Taguchi method. As a result, this interactive method could transform the characteristic value of Taguchi method into the size of SN ratios which are relatively easy to understand by decision makers.

  • In this research, we experimentally investigated the sealing performance of elastomeric rotary lip seals for washing machines. In general, NBR is used as a material for elastomeric rotary lip seals in washing machines, but the mixing formula of the rubber material can affect the sealing performance. In this study, we manufactured rotary lip seals using three kinds of NBRs with a different mixing formula, and examined the sealing performance using an acceleration test mode. The results of an SEM investigation into the surfaces of three kinds of specimens showed a much smaller wear volume and better sealing performance for the specimens with smaller particle sizes of mixing composition than for the specimen with the larger. Repeated deformation and recovery by the shaft-to-seal eccentricity on rotation were shown to cause a phase difference in the rubber material, and we measured the recovery ratio to find the influence of this phase difference on the sealing performance. As another method for checking the phase difference, we also measured tan ä, and a lower tan ä was revealed as the recovery ratio increased for each specimen. Specimens with a higher recovery ratio (lower tan ä) were shown to have a better sealing performance. Consequently, specimens with a smaller particle size in the mixing composition had a better sealing performance because they show a higher recovery ratio.

  • We use a novel, forced censoring technique that closer fits the lower tails of strenth distributions to better estimate extremly smaller percentiles for measuring progress in continuous improvement initiatives. These percentiles are of greater interest for companies, government oversight organizations, and consumers concerned with safely and preventing accidents for many products in general, but specifically for medium density fiberboard (MDF). The international industrial standard for MDF for measuring highest quality is internal bond (IB, also called tensile strengh) and its smaller percentiles are crucial, especially the first percentile and lower ones. We induce censoring at a value just above the median to weight lower observations more. Using this approach, we have better fits in the lower tails of the distribution, where these samller percentiles are impacted most. Finally, bootstrap estimates of the small percentiles are used to demonstrate improved intervals by our forced censoring approach and the fitted model. There was evidence from the study to suggest that MDF has potentially different failure modes for early failures. Overall, our approach is parsimonious and is suitable for real time manufacturing settings. The approach works for either strengths distributions or lifetime distributions.

  • This study describes the selection of optimum machining conditions for a high-hardness resin by using a large 5-axis machine. The experiments were conducted to examine the main factors that affect the surface roughness, such as the spindle speed, axial and radial depths of the cut, and pattern of the cutter path. To analyze the experiment results, the factor with the biggest impact on machining was determined using the smaller-the-better characteristic of the Taguchi method; the effectiveness of the experiment was then confirmed by verifying the selected optimum machining condition.

  • $0.18-{\mu}m$ high voltage technology 13.5V high voltage well-based symmetric EDMOS isolated by MTI was designed and fabricated. Using calibrated process and device model parameters, the characteristics of the symmetric and asymmetric EDMOS have been simulated. The asymmetric EDMOS has higher performance, better $R_{sp}$ / BVDSS figure-of-merit, short-channel immunity and smaller pitch size than the symmetric EDMOS. The asymmetric EDMOST is a good candidate for low-power and smaller source driver chips. The low voltage logic well-based EDMOS process has advantages over high voltage well-based EDMOS in process cost by eliminating the process steps of high-voltage well/drift implant, high-temperature long-time thermal steps, etc. The specific on-resistance of our well-designed logic well-based EDMOSTs is compatible with the smallest one published. TCAD simulation and measurement results show that the improved logic well-based nEDMOS has better electrical characteristics than those of the conventional one. The improved EDMOS proposed in this paper is an excellent candidate to be integrated with low voltage logic devices for high-performance low-power low-cost chips.

  • In this note, we deal with a design problem for determining the levels of noise factors in the Taguchi method. Recently, Ree(2009) proposed a new method to determine the levels of noise factors that is dependent on the distribution of the noise factors. We discuss the original suggestion from Taguchi method, propose a way to compare the two methods and investigate the performance(mean square error) of two proposals by examples.

  • We reformulate an interpolation-based unique decoding algorithm of AG codes, using the theory of Gr$\ddot{o}$bner bases of modules on the coordinate ring of the base curve. The conceptual description of the reformulated algorithm lets us better understand the majority voting procedure, which is central in the interpolation-based unique decoding. Moreover the smaller Gr$\ddot{o}$bner bases imply smaller space and time complexity of the algorithm.

  • Advanced FeedForward method use Predistortion method and FeedForward method simultaneously. This method better than original Feedforward method in linearity and supply smaller power to pre-power amplifier than different methods, and then it has higher power efficiency and better linearity than original Feedforward method. A linear power amplifier using Advanced feedforward method is designed and fabricated for IMT-2000 transmission system (2110㎒ -2170M㎓). This amplifier's power gain is about 40㏈ and it's 3-rd IMD(Intermodulation distortion) are smaller than about -55㏈c(@ 10MHz).
