This paper implements a remote image based metering(IBM) system which capture meter image, recognizes number automatically, and send the data wirelessly through PCS data network. We use existing gas/water meter and get NTSC camera image by installing small monochrome CMOS camera on the meter closely. For remote data transfer, we use SMS (short message service) that is provided by commercial PCS network. We developed DVR(digital video recorder) for capturing meter image and character recognition algorithm. In addition, hardware and software for SMS and meter selector were developed.
This Hydrokinetic energy system is the process of extracting energy from rivers, canals and others sources to generate small scale electrical energy for decentralized usage. This study investigates the application of Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) in Geographical Information System (GIS) environment to evaluate the theoretical hydrokinetic energy potentials of selected Rivers (Asa, Awun and Oyun) all in Asa watershed, Kwara state, Nigeria. SWAT was interfaced with an open source GIS system to predict the flow and other hydrological parameters of the sub-basins. The model was calibrated and validated using observed stream flow data. Calibrated flow results were used in conjunction with other parameters to compute the theoretical hydrokinetic energy potentials of the Rivers. Results showed a good correlation between the observed flow and the simulated flow, indicated by ash Sutcliffe Efficiency (NSE) and R2 of 0.76 and 0.85, respectively for calibration period, and NSE and R2 of 0.70 and 0.74, respectively for the validation period. Also, it was observed that highest potential of 154.82 MW was obtained along River Awun while the lowest potential of 41.63 MW was obtained along River Asa. The energy potentials obtained could be harnessed and deployed to the communities around the watershed for their energy needs.
Emissions of leachate, odor, and landfill gas(LFG) from an open-dumping landfill site do harm to public health by contaminating neighboring soil, underground water, and rivers. Particularly, methane($CH_4$) and carbon dioxide($CO_2$), the main components of LFG, are especially noted as the causing material of the global warming that become seriously recognized worldwide issue. As one of alternatives in managing LFG, incineration of inflammable wastes that are generated during excavation process at an open-dumping landfill has been evaluated. Standard on stabilization for evaluation, neither $CH_4$ density nor $CO_2$ density could not Because meet 'less than 5%' criterion and so it is right to install a gas collection system during landfill renewal to prevent diffusion of odor and collect it. Because it shows considerable heating value, incineration of inflammable wastes might be the reasonable solution from the result of our study.
Supported Liquid Membranes (SLMs) have been widely studied as feasible alternative to traditional processes for separation and purification of various chemicals both from aqueous and organic matrices. This technique offers various advantages like active transport, possibility to use expensive extractants, high selectivity, low energy requirements and minimization of chemical additives. SLMs are not yet used at large scale in industrial applications, because of the low stability. In the present paper, after a brief overview of the state of the art of SLM technology the facilitated transport mechanisms of SLM based separation is described, also introducing the small and the big carrousel models, which are employed for transport modeling. The main operating parameters (selectivity, flux and permeability) are introduced. The problems related to system stabilization are also discussed, giving particular attention to the influence of membrane materials (solid membrane support and organic liquid membrane (LM) phase). Various approaches proposed in literature to enhance SLM stability are also reviewed. Modification of the solid membrane support, creating an additional layer on membrane surface, which acts as a barrier to LM phase loss, increases system stability, but the membrane permeability, and then the flux, decrease. Stagnant Sandwich Liquid Membrane (SSwLM), an implementation of the SLM system, results in both high flux and stability compared to SLM. Finally, possible large scale applications of SLMs are also reviewed, evidencing that if the LM separation process is opportunely carried out (no production of byproducts), it can be considered as a green process.
The increase of the alternate current frequency results in increased rotational speed of the electrical motors and connected pumps. The consequence for the reactor coolant pumps is increased flow in primary coolant system. Increase of the current frequency can be initiated by the subsynchronous resonance phenomenon (SSR). This paper analyses the implications of the SSR and consequential increase of the frequency on the nuclear power plant safety. The Simulink $MATLAB^{(R)}$ model of the steam turbine and governor system and RELAP5 computer code of the pressurized water reactor are used in the analysis. The SSR results in fast increase of reactor coolant pumps speed and flow in the primary coolant system. The turbine trip value is reached in short time following SSR. The increase of flow of reactor coolant pumps results in increase of heat removal from reactor core. This results in positive reactivity insertion with reactor power increase of 0.5% before reactor trip is initiated by the turbine trip. The main parameters of the plant did not exceed the values of reactor trip set points. The pressure drop over reactor core is small discarding the possibility of core barrel lift.

A graphical user interface (GUI) program for steam tracing system selection was developed by using a theoretical model. We derived the model on the basis of the one-dimensional heat transfer theory of conduction and convection through a composite wall. Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and experiments were performed for validation at steam temperatures of 120.4[℃] and 158.9[℃]. The temperature of a pipe's outer surface obtained through CFD matched well with that predicted by the proposed model for both conditions. By contrast, the experiment results showed a small error at 120.4[℃] and a large error at 158.9[℃] because of the melting of the heat transfer compound and water phase transition. Thus, the steam temperature range of the proposed model is below 120.4[℃].

The water-gas shift reaction for the compact reformer was carried out at a gas hourly space velocity of 72,152 h-1 over the Cu-Nb-CeO2 catalysts prepared by co-precipitation method. In order to investigate the effect of Nb2O5 promotion over a Cu-CeO2 catalyst, the Nb2O5 loading amount was systematically changed from 0 to 5 wt.%. Among the prepared catalysts, the Cu-Nb-CeO2 (1%) catalyst showed the highest catalytic activity (CO conversion=61% at 400℃) as well as 100% CO2 selectivity. The high activity and stability of Cu-Nb-CeO2 (1%) catalyst are correlated to high Brunauer-Emmett-Teller surface area, small metallic Cu crystallite size, and enhanced redox property.
The present study aims to evaluate the effects of satellite-based SST (OSTIA) assimilation on a regional ocean circulation model for the Yellow and East China Seas (YECS), using three different assimilation methods: the Ensemble Optimal Interpolation (EnOI), Ensemble Kalman Filter (EnKF), and 4-Dimensional Variational (4DVAR) techniques, which are widely used in the ocean modeling communities. The model experiments show that an improved initial condition by assimilating the SST affects the seasonal water temperature and water mass distributions of the YECS. In particular, the SST data assimilation influences the temperature structures horizontally and vertically in winter, thereby improving the behavior of the YS warm current water. This is due to the fact that during wintertime the water column is well mixed, which is directly updated by the SST assimilation. The model comparisons indicate that the SST assimilation can improve the model performance in resolving the subsurface structures in wintertime, but has a relatively small impact in summertime due to the strong stratification. The differences among the different assimilation experiments are obvious when the SST was sharply changed due to a typhoon passage. Overall, the EnKF and 4DVAR show better agreement with the observations than the EnOI. The relatively low performance of EnOI under storm conditions may be related with a limitation of EnOI method whereby an analysis is obtained from a number of climatological fields, and thus the typhoon-induced SST changes in short-time scales may not be adequately reflected in the data assimilation.

In the last decade, many methods such as greet chamber, reservoir, or debris barrier, have been utilized to manage and prevent muddy water problem. The Vegetative Filter Strip (VFS) has been thought to be one of the most effective methods to trap sediment effectively. The VFS are usually installed at the edge of agricultural areas adjacent to stream or drainage ditches, and it has been shown that the VFS effectively removes pollutants transported with upland runoff. But, if the VFS is installed without any scientific analysis of rainfall-runoff characteristics, soil erosion, and sediment analysis, it may not reduce the sediment as much as expected. Although Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) model has been used worldwide for many hydrologic and Non-Point Source Pollution (NPSP) analysis at a watershed scale. but it has many limitations in simulating the VFS. Because it considers only 'filter strip width' when the model estimates sediment trapping efficiency, and does not consider the routing of sediment with overland flow option which is expected to maximize the sediment trapping efficiency from upper agricultural subbasin to lower spatially-explicit filter strip. Therefore, the SWAT overland flow option between landuse-subbasins with sediment routing capability was enhanced with modifications in SWAT watershed configuration and SWAT engine. The enhanced SWAT can simulate the sediment trapping efficiency of the VFS in the similar way as the desktop VFSMOD-w system does. Also it now can simulate the effects of overland flow from upper subbasin to reflect the increased runoff volume at the receiving subbasin, which is what is occurring at the field if no diversion channel is installed. In this study, the enhanced SWAT model was applied to small watershed located at Jaun-ri in South Korea to simulate diversion channel and spatially-explicit VFS. It was found that approximately sediment can be reduced by 31%, 65%, 68%, with diversion channel, the VFS, and the VFS with diversion channel, respectively.
The present study was carried out to find a suitable drying method for the determination of non-evaporable water in hydraulic inorganic materials. In Part 1 of the paper, the case ordinary Portland cement was discussed and, in this Part 2, the case of alkali active slag (AAS) was investigated. Various drying methods including vacuum and oven drying, and an ignition, were used for the AAS system having different w/b, types and amounts of alkali activators. It was found that a combination of the vacuum and oven drying was a suitable drying method for the AAS case. Although a part of the crystallized water in hydration products was decomposed, but the free and adsorbed water could be completely evaporated and the deviation of the results was small.
