Feasibility assessment for small hydropower plants using diversion weirs located in stream for agricultural purpose has been studied. The model, which can predict flow duration characteristic of stream, was developed to analyze the inflow caused from rainfall. And another model to predict hydrologic performance for small hydropower plants is established. Preliminary survey was performed identifying several candidate sites, and two sites were selected finally for actual site reconnaissance. During the course of site survey, generating capacity, construction and equipment cost, and payback through life time of each sites were calculated for economical feasibility analysis. The results of this study have estimated that the small hydropower plants using diversion weirs for agricultural purpose may offer better opportunities in future with increasing fuel cost and nation's energy policy.
Most of urban streams in Korea have been changed channel forms and suffered from direct inflow of domestic sewage, etc. Therefore, maintenance of structure and function of those ecosystem are hard. The present study was carried out to examine the life survival maintenance ability of the stream by community analysis of aquatic animals in typical urban stream (Jungrang stream) in Seoul. The aquatic animals were composed of 31 species, 18 families, 8 orders, 5 classes in 4 phyla. Seasonal species number showed big fluctuation between 8 species in Winter and 24 species in Autumn. Major dominant species in Jungrang stream were Tubificidae sp.1, Chironomidae sp.1, Chironomidae sp.2 and Physa acuta, and above endurance species for water pollution occupied very high dominance indices. But, Cercion hieroglyphicum, Ischnura asiatica, Rantra chinensis, Herochares striatus, Agabus japonicus in benthic macroinvertebrates of a few individuals are appeared. Also, fry of Carassius auratus and Silurus asotus in fish are occurred. Therefore, we can be inferred on posibility of growth and spawning of above species in the stream. Jungrang stream has a small quantity of natural riffle areas, ponds and watergrass areas by channel form of water course. Aquatic animals in Jungrang stream has been suffered by reduction of self-purification reaction ability and have mass production of attached algae on the stream bed. For analysis of fluctuation of life survival maintenance ability in Jungrang stream, long-term survey is needed.
This study was carried out forecasting of pollution inflow of the Small Mountainous Catchment, namely; Seolma-cheon experimental catchment. Pollutographs of DO, BOD, T-N, Conductivity, T-p, pH. COD, SS from this catchment were obtained from in-situ data of total ten events using QUAL2E-PULS model. From the analysis results, between up stream(Sabang-bridge) and down stream (Memorial-bridge, outlet) obtained relation formula of water quality component. Determination coefficient of relation formula, Conductivity, COD, BOD, DO, pH, T-N, T-P, and SS showed high relation of $0.87{\sim}0.99$. The increases of DO, BOD, COD, and pH concentration of Memorial-bridge were associated with pollution inflow by road building far 2.25km from Sabang-bridge to down stream. The analysis results of QUAL2E-PULS simulation and up/down stream relation formula, pollution amounts of DO, BOD, COD and pH increased at Memorial-bridge and pollution source site. Therefore, pollution inflow can be forecasted exactly by up/down stream relation formula at pollution source site.

This study has been conducted for the long-term riverbed change prediction on Geum River and Miho Stream surrounding the planned Multifunctional Administrative City and the neighboring regions by the construction of a small dam. Based on the analysis of vertical riverbed changes of the cross-sectional data for the years 1988, 2002 and 2007, minimum bed elevation significantly decreased in both Geum River and Miho Stream in 2007 as compared to 1988. Compared to 2002, however, a slight elevation change was observed. To make a long-term prediction on riverbed changes by the construction of a small dam, a one dimensional HEC-RAS 4.0 model has been used. By the fixed bed model test, the water levels were calibrated. By using the cross-sectional data of 1988 and 2002, verification was conducted under a movable bed model. According to the prediction of riverbed changes for each scenario with varying height of small dam, minor impact is expected around Miho Stream while major impact is expected around Geum River by 2017, as the small dam height increases. If the small dam is 7m-high, for example, it's been simulated that 1.59m deposition would be expected around the upper stream of Miho Stream Confluence while 1.98m scour would be expected around the downstream of the small dam.
This study was conducted as a restoration research in a mountain stream of hydrologic cycle system, which is a type of microsites purposely changing vegetation. The status of vegetation in the three experimental sites, water purification site, small dammed pole site, and aquatic plant restoration site, and one control site within the area of the mountain forest stream were investigated in three different periods, namely before sites restoration, year of sites restoration, and year after sites restoration. After one year of restoration, number of vegetation was increased in the small dammed pool and control site respectively. Vegetation coverage ratio of Zizania latifolia was increased at the water purification area. The effects of habitats restoration appeared to be good a year after the restoration of the experimental sites, in terms of families and species composition of the introduced vegetation, and stream flow. Therefore, the results of the study strongly suggest that fairly effective ways to restore and reproduce degrading mountain hydroecological habitats are by way of forming pool sites and small dams in intermittent mountain streams and re-vegetating with selected plants.
In this study vegetation structure was monitored focusing on slanting surface of stream for the purpose of developing a management plan and ecological restoration of small stream in Paju. The study was conducted by types of geographical structure, yearly flora, naturalization rate changes, actual vegetation changes, plant community changes. Slope area of small stream in Paju was varied in the slope range of $10{\sim}35^{\circ}$. The survey results of yearly flora showed that 37 species appeared in 2000, 55 species in 2001, 95 species in 2002, and 125 species in 2003. Therefore, the trend of continuous increase of flora each year was observed. In the case of yearly changes of actual vegetation, indigenous wetland herb community including Phragmites communis$(19.99%{\rightarrow}18.42%{\rightarrow}19.60%)$ did not show substantial changes in the area, while the influence of controlled flora such as Humulus scandens$(8.86%{\rightarrow}5.26%{\rightarrow}9.73%)$, and Ambrosia artemisiifolia$(1.06%{\rightarrow}1.43%{\rightarrow}6.93%)$ were increased. The vegetation structure investigated by 18 preset belt-transects also indicated that Phragmites communis and Miscanthus sacchariflorus were maintaining the status or decreasing the population, while the population of Humulus scandens, Ambrosia artemisiifolia, Setaria viridis, and Erigeron canadensis were greatly increased. Our proposal management to restore ecology is as follows: first, preservation and restoration of Phragmites communis landscape; second, restoration of potential stream vegetation community; third, selection and removal of controlled plants.

Evaluations of the fish farm influences on stream water quality may provide basic informations on watershed management to reduce environmental impact due to fish farm development and to conserve stream water quality in forested watershed area. In this research influent, effluent water in the fish farm and stream water qualities around Mt. Baegun area were monitored seasonally for six years and the following results were obtained. Due to the increase of pH in effluent water from the fish farm it was believed that alkalization of stream water can be accelerated by large scale development of fish farms in the forested watershed area. Also, effluent water from the fish farm increase of EC higher than influent and stream water. As a result of regression analyses, pH, EC, DO, water temperature, total amount of cation and anion in influent and effluent water of fish farm show high significance.
In this study, we investigated to measured concentration, seasonal characteristics and load quantity of volatile organic compounds(VOCs) for 11 sites in the main stream and 8 sites in the branch stream of Kumho river, during from October 1995 to April 1997. As a results, the small amount of volatile compounds, such as dichloromethane, chloroform, toluene, benzene, trichloroethene, tetrachloroethene, p-xylene and 1,3,5-trimethyl-benzene were detected from the main stream of Kumho river. Also detected to dichloromethene, chloroform, toluene, benzene, trichloroethene, tetrachloroethene, ethylbenzene, p-xylene, 1,3,5-trimethylbebzene and 1,2,4-trimethylbenzene in the branch stream, and dichloromerhane, chloroform and toluene were detected to all site of sampling. And seasonal variation of volatile organic compounds showed higher concentration in the July 1996 as a winter season than January 1997 as a summer season in most places. Also the load quantity of volatile organic compound at Gangchang site in the last downstream of Kumho river, was in order of chloroform > dichloromethane > toluene > trichloroethene.
