  • In this study, the formulation of the developed mixed-integer programming model for a multi-reservoir system including hydro-electric power generation (park et al., 2001) has been improved for multiple reservoir system operation using risk evaluation criteria. Sequential linear programming(SLP) was applied for the linearization of the hydro-electric energy term in the model. In order to allocate monthly reservoir release reasonably the value of weight for hydro-electric energy was assigned by level of power generation hour. The improved model was applied to the five reservoirs system in the Han river. And could be confirmed the availibility of new formulation appling risk evaluation criteria.

  • Numerical design optimization techniques are implemented for the improvement of the ram accelerator performance. The design object is to find the minimum ram tube length required to accelerate projectile from initial velocity $V_o$ to target velocity $V_e$. The premixture is composed of $H_2$, $O_2$, $N_2$ and the mole numbers of these species are selected as design variables. The objective function and the constraints are linearized during the optimization process and gradient-based Simplex method and SLP(Sequential Linear Programming) have been employed. With the assumption of two dimensional inviscid flow for internal flow field, the analyses of the nonequilibrium chemical reactions for 8 steps 7 species have been performed. To determined the tube length, ram tube internal flow field is assumed to be in a quasi-steady state and the flow velocity is divided into several subregions with equal interval. Hence the thrust coefficients and accelerations for corresponding subregions are obtained and integrated for the whole velocity region. With the proposed design optimization techniques, the total ram tube length had been reduced 19% within 7 design iterations. This optimization procedure can be directly applied to the multi-stage, multi-premixture ram accelerator design optimization problems.

  • A 6-week feeding trial was conducted to determine the nutritional value of various dietary animal protein sources in juvenile Koran rockfish. White fish meal (WFM), flounder muscle meal (FMM), blood meal (BM), casein & gelain (CG), egg white albumin (EWA) and squid liver powder (SLP) were used as the animal protein sources, Crude protein content and available energy of the experimental diets were 50% and 15.9 kJ/g, respectively. There were significant differences among all dietary groups in weight gain (WG), feed efficiency (FE), and protein effiency ratio (PER). WFM and FFM were the best animal protein sources among the dietary groups. FMM diet had significantly higher (P<0.05) WG, FE, and PER values than those of fish fed the WFM diet. WG, FE, PER, and specific growth rate (SGR) values of fish fed BM diet were significantly higher (P<0.05) than those of fish fed EWA diet. Significant differences were found in whole body composition, hemoglobin (Hb), hepatosomatic index (HSI), and hematocrit (Ht). These results showed that low-temperature processing of lyophilized flounder muscle meal resulted in superior performance of rockfish relative to the other evaluated animal protein sources.

  • A number of experiments have been performed on light slowing and stopping in the electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) media of hot atomic gases where the Doppler-shift may add detunings to the field frequencies in an inhomogeneous fashion. We provide here a theoretical analysis as to the effect of such a Doppler-broadened environment on the dynamics of the system in comparison to a cold atomic medium. We will show that one of the most critical factors in the formation of a stationary light pulse is the enhancement of the excited-state decay rate caused by the collisions between the atoms of the medium and the molecules of the buffer gas.

  • The radar tomographic imaging is based on the Radar Cross-Section "RCS" of the materials of a shape under examination and investigation. The RCS varies as the conductivity and permittivity of a target, where the target has a different material profile than other background objects in a scene. In this research paper, we use Hierarchical Performance Modeling "HPM" and a framework developed earlier to determine/spot bottleneck(s) for pattern recognition of materials using a combination of the Single Layer Perceptron (SLP) technique and tomographic images in radar systems. HPM provides mathematical equations which create Objective Functions "OFs" to find an average performance metric such as throughput or response time. Herein, response time is used as the performance metric and during the estimation of it, bottlenecks are found with the help of OFs. The obtained results indicate that processing images consumes around 90% of the execution time.

  • Linear Programming(LP) is the term used for defining a wide range of optimization problems in which the objective function to be minimized or maximized is linear in the unknown variables and the constraints are a combination of linear equalities and inequalities. LP problems occur in many real-life economic situations where profits are to be maximized or costs minimized with constraint limits on resources. While the simplex method introduced in a later reference can be used for hand solution of LP problems, computer use becomes necessary even for a small number of variables. Problems involving diet decisions, transportation, production and manufacturing, product mix, engineering limit analysis in design, airline scheduling, and so on are solved using computers. This technique is called Sequential Linear Programming (SLP). This paper describes LP's problems and solves a LP's problems using the neural networks.

  • Cut off probe, the efficient method, can measure the plasma parameters like the plasma electron density and the electron temperature. Plasma potential is also one of the important parameters in plasma processing but cannot be measured by cut off probe yet. Thus we developed method to measure plasma potential by focusing on relation between bias on a tip and sheath around tip. The system consist of a ICP(Inductive Coupled Plasma) source, a Network analyzer and a bias tee that can be bridge apply DC voltage on the cut off probe tip. Plasma potential is identified by using this system. The results corresponded well with the measured results by single langmuir probe(SLP).

  • In this paper, we present a multi-core processor including multimedia specific instructions to process multimedia data efficiently in the mobile environment. Multimedia specific instructions exploit subword level parallelism (SLP), while the multi-core processor exploits data level parallelism (DLP). These combined parallelisms improve the performance of multimedia processing applications. The proposed multi-core processor including multimedia specific instructions is implemented and tested using a Xilinx ISE 10.1 tool and SoCMaster3 testbed system including Vertex 4 FPGA. Experimental results using a fire detection algorithm show that multimedia specific instructions outperform baseline instructions in the same multi-core architecture in terms of performance (1.2x better), energy efficiency (1.37x better), and area efficiency (1.23x better).

  • The main obstacle to high track density in HDD is the structural resonances of the suspension. The most critical mode is sway mode and second torsion mode, when a data is read and written. It is common fact that the effect of two modes is smaller when a thickness is bulky. But the stiffness of suspension is smaller, the slider can follow a disk better. Because these two fact are reciprocal, a compromise is needed. So we investigated another method to improve band width without changing of the thickness of suspension but with changing of the shape. In this paper, we use two method - Sensitivity analysis and SIP using ADS. And we obtained the optimized value close to target value.

  • When the topology optimization is applied to the design of compliant mechanism, unexpected displacements of input and output port are generated since the displacement control is not included in the formulation. To devise a more precise mechanism, displacement constraint is formulated using the mutual potential energy concept and added to multi-objective function defined with flexibility and stiffness of a structure. The optimization problem is resolved by using Finite Element Method(FEM) and Sequential Linear Programming(SLP). Design examples of compliant mechanism with displacement constraint are presented to validate the proposed design method.
