  • Early detection of premonitory symptom of slope movement ensures tremendous saving of lives and repair costs from catastrophic disaster. Therefore, it is essential to constantly monitor the performance and integrity of both reinforced and un-reinforced cut slopes. We developed a novel monitoring system by using tension wire sensors. It's advantages are highly sensitivity, simple installation, large displacement measurement, durability of system, capability of remote sensing. Real-time measurement of slope surface movement is shown graphically and it gives a warning when the monitored value exceeds a given threshold level so that any sign of abnormal slope movement can be easily perceived.

  • This study tested whether non-native speakers approximated native-like locus equation slopes. Russian learners of English acquired native-like values of the locus equation slope for the English bilabial, and English learners of Russian made slight modifications to the locus equation slope of the Russian bilabial. The acquisition of the locus equations occurred gradually with experience. While English speakers, with limited experience with Russian, failed to approximate Russian-typical value of the locus equations slope, Russian speakers, with more extensive experience with English, succeeded in approximating the locus equation for English bilabial. The observation of locus equation transfer effect supports for the locus equation hypothesis as the unit of acquisition over CV-by-CV learning.

  • The "pseudo-wedge" failure is a name for a complex instability occurring at the Sarcheshmeh open-pit mine (Iran). The pseudo-wedge failure contains both the rock bridge failure and sliding along pre-existing discontinuities. In this paper, a cross section of the failure area was first modeled using a bonded-particle method. The results indicated development of tensile cracks at the slope toe which explains the freedom of pseudo-wedge blocks to slide. Then, a three-dimensional discrete element method was used to perform a block analysis of the instability. The technique of shear strength reduction was used to calculate the factor of safety. Finally, the influence of geometrical characteristics of the mine wall on the pseudo-wedge failure was investigated. The safety factor significantly increases as the dip and dip direction of the wall decrease, and reaches an acceptable value with a 10-degree decrease of them.

  • This paper presents the results of centrifuge model tests on the reinforced slope by pressure grouting. Tests were performed to investigate the reinforcing effect of grouting. In the tests, slopes of scale factor 1/10 were used changing the space and number of reinforcing bar. Test results are as tile follows; 1. The reinforcing effect increase rapidly with reinforcement area ratio at low value of reinforcement area ratio. 2. At high reinforcement area ratio the increase ratio of reinforcing effect decrease. 3. At same reinforcement area ratio, the reinforcing effect of double reinforcing bar was larger than the single reinforcing bar due to arching effect.

  • In this study, we have investigated optimum value for side gate length and side gate voltage of double gate (DG) MOSFET with main gate and side gate. We know that optimum side gate voltage for each side length is about 3V. Also, we know that optimum side gate length for each main gate length is about 70nm. We have presented the transconductance and subthreshold slope for each side gate length. We have simulated using ISE-TCAD tool for characteristics analysis of device.

  • Selection of the optimal inductance for power factor improvement of a buck AC/DC light-emitting diode (LED) driver with wide input voltage range is described in this study. The power factor change based on the slope compensation is obtained for various normalized output current (NOC) values using discrete-time domain analysis. The possibility of implementing constant slope compensation is described using power factor curves for various NOC values. NOC = 0.5 is chosen for the value of inductance with consideration for the simple implementation and reduction of inductor size. Experimental results of the inductance corresponding to NOC = 0.5 are presented.

  • This paper presents an optimized design technique that can satisfy the design input values. Numerical analysis was performed on the slope correction device based on the first design. The stress distribution was confirmed when the load specified as the design input value was applied, and design changes were introduced for parts for which the design safety factor did not meet the standard to ensure rigidity. And the results were verified through FEA.

  • Rock disturbance caused by blasting and stress relaxation is commonly observed during excavation. As the distance from the source of disturbance increases, the degree of disturbance decreases, and rock at a large depth does not experience disturbance. However, in stability analyses, a single value of disturbance is often applied to the entire rock mass, which leads to underestimated results. In this study, this modeling mistake is addressed by considering realistically varying rock disturbance. The safety of infinite slopes in a disturbed rock mass with a strength governed by the Hoek-Brown failure criterion is investigated based on the kinematic approach of limit analysis. The maximum disturbance is assigned to the outermost slope face because it is directly exposed to blasting damage and dilation, and the disturbance progressively decays with distance in the rock mass. The safety analysis results indicate that the assumption of uniform disturbance in the entire rock mass leads to underestimation of the rock strength and safety on infinite rock slopes. A critical slip surface appears to be within the disturbed rock layer as well as the interface between the disturbed upper rock and undisturbed lower rock.

  • This study calculated the pore water pressure, the depth of seepage, the constant of the strength in accordance with the slope inclination and the rainfall intensity over the slope built by the weathered granite soil (SP, SM). And, the change of the shear strength in accordance with the rainfall has been compared and analyzed by applying the shear strength formula of the unsaturated soil. As a result, the rainfall intensity is stronger and the slope inclination is gentler the seepage speed in accordance with the rainfall became faster proportionally. As a result of comparing and analyzing both the theoretical value of Lumb and the actual value of the model, it can be said that the actual value is faster. Since SM shows the bigger shear strength than SP, it can also be said that as the granules increase, the coefficient of permeability becomes smaller; and as the seepage rate became smaller, it affects the seepage speed. Likewise, the shear strength within the slope displays the smallest shear strength at the inclination of 1:1.5 the reason of its decrease turned out that it was due to the increase of the pore water pressure.
