  • This paper presents the characteristics of antenna factors for sleeve dipole antennas with a broad bandwidth. The coupled integral equations for the unknown current distributions on each elements are derived and solved by applying Galerkin's method of moments. The flatness of antenna factor is considered. with variation of the length and number of sleeve elements.

Design of Rectangular Planar Monopole Antenna with a Double Sleeve (이중 슬리브를 갖는 직사각형 평면 모노폴 안테나 설계)

  • In this paper, a wideband antenna accomplished by adding a double sleeve of a rectangular planar monopole structure is proposed. In order to impedance matching of proposed antenna, the antenna performance was improved by adding two gap sleeves and outer sleeve for double sleeve structure. HFSS simulator of ANSYS corp. was used in order to confirm the antenna parameter characteristic. According to the simulation results, the VSWR was less than 2 for the range of 2.5GHz~10.5GHz. The frequency bandwidth is 8GHz. The frequency range of the actual fabricated antenna was 2.92GHz~10.32GHz, the frequency bandwidth is 7.4GHz. The measured radiation pattern frequency is 3GHz, 6GHz and 9GHz. The results are similar with dipole antenna pattern in all frequency. The antenna size is $40{\times}40mm^2$. The utilization possibility of the ultra-wideband planar monopole antenna could be confirmed according to compare and analyze the simulation and measurement data.

A Study on the Planar Sleeve Monopole Antenna for Digital TV Reception (디지털 TV 수신을 위한 평면 슬리브 모노폴 안테나에 관한 연구)

  • In this paper, a planar sleeve monopole antenna for indoor digital TV reception is presented. The antenna has broadband property with the planar monopole and ground of sleeve. Sleeve monopole and ground conductors of the antenna are on the same plane, and exited through CPW feeding. Sleeve monopole and ground of proposed antenna exist on coplanar plane, and excite as CPW. It used FR4 epoxy dielectric substrate of ${\varepsilon}r=4.4$, and the size is $20[mm]{\times}170[mm]{\times}1.6[mm]$ dimension. So the internal antenna is suitable. The measurement results of the fabricated antenna, return loss is larger than -10 [dB] in 470~806 [MHz]. Maximum gain is 0.59 [dBi] on E-plane at 810 MHz and 1.70 [dBi] on H-plane at 640 [MHz]. Radiation pattern is about the same that of dipole antenna at all frequency.

  • In this paper, we proposed a rectangular planar monopole antenna with a double sleeve that applied to a half-cut and a discontinuous feed structure. A rectangular planar monopole antenna with a double sleeve was cut in half along the magnetic symmetry line, and impedance matching was achieved by a discontinuous structure was applied to a feeder and by adjusting the double sleeve gap. We used the HFSS simulator of ANSYS company to confirm the antenna parameter property, and the antenna size was $21{\times}40mm^2$. In the proposed antenna, the simulation frequency range with VSWR of 2 or less was 2.6GHz to 10.25GHz. The bandwidth was 7.65GHz. The frequency range of the fabricated antenna was 3.3GHz to 9.75GHz, and the bandwidth was 6.45GHz. The measured radiation pattern frequencies were 3.5GHz, 5.5GHz, 7.5GHz, and 9.5GHz. A radiation pattern similar to the dipole antenna pattern was obtained at all frequencies.

Analysis of the Sleeve Dipole Array Antennas Using the Moment Method (모멘트 법을 이용한 슬리브 다이폴 배열안테나의 해석)

  • This paper presents a method of moments with the transmission line theory to analyze the sleeve dipole array antennas and analyses characteristics of that. There were several considerations for analysis of the method of moments. First, the method of moments were applied at both of the sleeve dipole elements and the coaxial line because the current flows on both of them. Second, the feed voltages of each sleeve dipole element were obtained by using a transmission line theory because the feeding structure is fed by coaxial line in series. Third, the series reactance between the coaxial line and the open side of the sleeve was considered as impedance loading on the antenna. The radiation patterns and current distributions from the numerical results were considered as variation of the feed distances and frequencies. To verify the validity of our method, 4 elements sleeve dipole array antennas with 1 λg distance were fabricated and measured, and then the measured radiation patterns were compared with the numerical results. The measured results were confirmed a good agreement with the numerical results.

  • A synthesized isotropic pattern antenna can be realized by arrangeing $\lambda$/ 2 dipole along each x, y, z axis. The sleeve type $\lambda$/ 2 dipole antenna is used as a basic element for a proper impedance matching at feeding point and minimum mutual coupling effect between each element at 820 MHz - 895 MHz band. The total electric field intensity radiated from the designed isotropic pattern antenna is drived from the magnetic vector potential which is produced by each sleeve $\lambda$/ 2 dipole in the far field. This total electric field intensity is inversely proportional only to distance $\gamma$from the origin of coordinates, and pattern factor variation is less than 2.1dB. The measured value of total electric field variation depending on pattern factor is less then 2.8dB, and the difference between the calculated and measured value is 0.7dB.
