  • In the present study, numerical analysis was performed for hydrodynamic motion and structural performance on four different concrete floating structures, which have same cross-section but different length. The hydrodynamic analysis of floating structures is carried out using ANSYS AQWA with the different 34 wave load on regular wave period from three seconds to ten seconds in 35 m water depth. In order to evaluate structural performance of floating structures under the critical wave load which obtained from hydrodynamic analysis. The integrated analysis is also carried out through the mapping method, which can directly connect the wave-induced hydraulic pressure obtained form ANSYS AQWA to Finite Element Model in ANSYS Mechanical. As a results of this study, the hydrodynamic motion of floating structures is decreased as the length of structure increased. It means that the effect of wave-structure interaction is strongly dependent on the relationship between a wave period and a length of structure. Moreover, it is found that tension stress on bottom slab of floating structure is occurred by the critical wave load, the sectional force is not influenced by length of a structure.

  • Many researches have been performed on concrete with fly ash and bottom ash. However researches on concrete with pond ash (PA) and its application to RC (Reinforced Concrete) structure are limitedly carried out. This paper presents an applicability of PA concrete in construction of real size structure. Referring to the previous study, 2 domestic PA samples with normal performance are selected and 2 replacement ratios (25% and 50%) to fine aggregate are considered for 5 PA concrete structures consisting of column, slab, and wall. In order to evaluate the property of fresh concrete, several tests including air content, slump, and setting time are performed. Using cored out samples from hardened PA concrete structure, tests for strength, resistance to carbonation and chloride penetration are carried out and compared with control samples. Additionally, tests for rebound hardness, drying shrinkage, and hydration heat are performed for PA concrete structure. The test results showed that PA concrete has reasonable strength and durability performances compared to those of normal concrete. Therefore, its potential application to RC structure is promising. The PA aggregate can be more actively used for RC structures with better quality control for content of fly ash, bottom ash, and unburned carbon.

  • With the recent increase in old and dangerous buildings, the demand for technology in the field of structure demolition is rapidly increasing. In particular, in the case of structures with severe deformation of damage, there is a risk of deterioration in stability and disaster due to changes in the load distribution characteristics in the structure, so rapid structure demolition technology that can be efficiently dismantled in a short period of time is drawing attention. However, structural deformation such as unauthorized extension or illegal remodeling occurs frequently in many old structures, which is not reflected in structural information such as building drawings, and acts as an obstacle in the demolition design process. In this study, as an effective way to overcome the discrepancy between the structural information of old structures and the actual structure, access to actual structures through 3D modeling was considered. 3D point cloud data inside and outside the building were obtained through LiDAR and drone photography for buildings scheduled to be blasting demolition, and precision matching between the two spatial data groups was performed using an open-source based spatial information construction system. The 3D structure model was completed by importing point cloud data matched with 3D modeling software to create structural drawings for each layer and forming each member along the structure slab, pillar, beam, and ceiling boundary. In addition, the modeling technique proposed in this study was verified by comparing it with the actual measurement value for selected structure member.

  • Recently, as construction technology improved, concrete structures not only became larger, taller and longer but were able to perform various functions. However, if extreme loads such as impact, blast, and fire are applied to those structures, it would cause severe property damages and human casualties. Especially, the structural responses from extreme loading are totally different than that from quasi-static loading, because large pressure is applied to structures from mass acceleration effect of impact and blast loads. Therefore, the strain rate effect and damage levels should be considered when concrete structure is designed. In this study, the low velocity impact loading test of steel fiber reinforced concrete (SFRC) slabs including 0%~1.5% (by volume) of steel fibers, and strengthened with two types of FRP sheets was performed to develop an impact resistant structural member. From the test results, the maximum impact load, dissipated energy and the number of drop to failure increased, whereas the maximum displacement and support rotation were reduced by strengthening SFRC slab with FRP sheets in tensile zone. The test results showed that the impact resistance of concrete slab can be substantially improved by externally strengthening using FRP sheets. This result can be used in designing of primary facilities exposed to such extreme loads. The dynamic responses of SFRC slab strengthened with FRP sheets under low velocity impact load were also analyzed using LS-DYNA, a finite element analysis program with an explicit time integration scheme. The comparison of test and analytical results showed that they were within 5% of error with respect to maximum displacements.

  • Most of tall building systems are composed of above-ground structure and underground structure used for parking and stores. The underground structure may have a pronounced influence on tall building response, but its influence is still not well understood. In a widely referred report on seismic design of tall buildings, it is recommended to model the underground structure ignoring the surrounding ground and to impose input ground motion calculated considering the underground structure-soil kinematic interaction between at its base. In this study, dynamic analyses are performed on 1B and 5B basements. The motions at the base are calculated to free field responses. The motions are further compared to two procedures outlined in the report to account for the kinematic interaction. It is shown that one of the procedure fits well for the 1B model, whereas both procedures provide poor fit with 5B model analysis result.

  • We investigated one-dimensional thermal conduction for gypsum objects incorporating oyster shell powder. We presumed that according to the portion of oyster shell in the hybrid structure conductive characteristics of that would also change as some physicochemical properties such as volatile organic compound (VOC) adsorption were found to be changed considerably. Based on Fourier's 2nd law of heat conduction an analytical analysis in a flat slab (one axis perpendicular to an infinite plane) was performed. We found that composition of oyster shell and conduction-related coefficients and parameters could greatly influence on the thermal profile of that conduction, and some model experiments also served for it in the affirmative.

  • Structural engineers lately have an interest in the safety for equipments and facility in buildings subjected to earthquake. The stability of cultural assets was not considered for the earthquake induced vibration, while the integrity of structure has been considered through the resistant earthquake design. The purpose of this study aimed to analyze the behavior of isolation device named as \"Isolation table system\" and to evaluate its isolation performance through the experiment study. Isolation table is one of isolation systems to reduce the vibration which was transferred from slab to exhibition table. Experimental result shows that isolation table can reduce the vibration by 80-90% and its behavior is very stable within its maximal stroke.al stroke.

  • In this study, we use 1:1, 1:2, and 1:4 scale zig-zag shape acoustic metamaterial structure to achieve broad and effective sound blocking at the subwavelength scale. The SPL(Sound Pressure Level) results show that the SPL loss of the scaled metamaterial slab in series is a superposition of individual SPL losses. Also, we show that the metamaterial tailors the material properties to achieve high impedance and high refractive index using effective medium theory. Our results show that broad and effective sound blocking is possible at the subwavelength scale just by scaling acoustic metamaterial.

  • Most widened bridges have been constructed by the joining-construction method that makes new and existmg bridges structurally a single structure. Since the joining-constructiori method has several problems in design and construction viewpoint, this study is conducted in order to investigate the flexural fatigue behavior of RC slabs, which are widened and influenced by traffic-induced vibration of existmg bridge during placing and curing of new concrete, with the prototype fatigue test. It was found that stress concentration at the jclmts anti slips between steel bar and concrete are occured. Hut, the general tx:havinrs are similar to the original state and joining-construction method using expansive concrete nut~gated the influence of the trafflc-induced vibration.

  • The crack of concrete induced by the heat of hydration is a serious problem, particularly in concrete structures such as underground box structure, mat-slab of nuclear reactor buildings, dams or large footings, foundations of high rise buildings, etc.. As a result of the temperature rise and restriction condition of foundation, the thermal stress which may induce the cracks can occur. Therefore the various techniques of the thermal stress control in massive concrete have been widely used. One of them is prediction of the thermal stress, besides low-heat cement which mitigates the temperature rise, pre-cooling which lowers the initial temperature of fresh concrete with ice flake, pipe cooling which cools the temperature of concrete with flowing water, design change which considers steel bar reinforcement, operation control and so on. The objective of this paper is largely two folded. Firstly we introduce the cracks control technique by employing low-heat cement mix and thermal stress analysis. Secondly it show the application condition of the cracks control technique like sidewall of LNG in Inchonl.
