A Simpler Method to Estimate the Elastic Constant of Collagen-like Microfibril Using Voigt-Reuss Bounds (복합재료역학을 이용한 콜라겐 단백질 마이크로피브릴의 탄성율 예측 개선)

  • The effective Young’s modulus of a microfibril surrounded by water may be simply calculated by using the upper (Voigt) and lower (Reuss) bounds, which is one way to estimate the Young’s modulus in composite materials. The Steered Molecular Dynamics (SMD) has been used for estimating the Young’s modulus of a microfibril surrounded by water. In this paper, the result estimated by the upper (Voigt) and lower (Reuss) bounds shows 9.2% to 21.8% discrepancy from the result estimated by SMD, but introducing “efficiency of reinforcement parameter” removes the discrepancy and shows good agreement with the result estimated by SMD. We found the best fit for the Young’s modulus against the size of the gap between microfibrils. Also the steps using these bounds are much simpler than SMD.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop the data structure for querying database of a rural house design. It is necessary, for developing the data structure, to define items of rural houses and to study about the processing of the data. The classifications of rural houses can be differed in the subjective opinion for computerization. In this study, items of classified rural houses can be expressed numerically, like size and number of room. The user who has insufficient knowledge about house is hard to input items fit personal taste. The querying algorithm was developed using the relationship of items and functions of house. Functions of house mean family life-style and how they use space.

Equilibrium modeling for adsorption of NO3- from aqueous solution on activated carbon produced from pomegranate peel

  • Nitrate removal from aqueous solution was investigated using $ZnCl_2$ and phosphoric acid activated carbon developed from pomegranate peel with particle size 0.4 mm. Potassium nitrate solution was used in batch adsorption experiments for nitrate removal from water. The effects of activated carbon dosage, time of contact, and pH were studied. The equilibrium time was fond to be 45 min. Two theoretical adsorption isotherms namely Langmuir and Freundlich were used to describe the experimental results. The Langmuir fit the isotherm with the theoretical adsorption capacity ($q_t$) was fond 78.125 mg g-1. Adsorption kinetics data were modeled using the pseudo-first, pseudo-second order, and intraparticle diffusion models. The results indicate that the second-order model best describes adsorption kinetic data. Results show activated carbon produced from pomegranate is effective for removal of nitrate from aqueous solution.

Tangible AR interaction based on fingertip touch using small-sized non-square markers

  • Although big-sized markers are good for accurate marker recognition and tracking, they are easily occluded by other objects and deteriorate natural visualization and level of immersion during user interaction in AR environments. In this paper, we propose an approach to exploiting the use of rectangular markers to support tangible AR interaction based on fingertip touch using small-sized markers. It basically adjusts the length, width, and interior area of rectangular markers to make them more suitably fit to longish objects like fingers. It also utilizes convex polygons to resolve the partial occlusion of a marker and properly enlarges the pattern area of a marker while adjusting its size without deteriorating the quality of marker detection. We obtained encouraging results from users that the approach can provide better natural visualization and higher level of immersion, and be accurate and tangible enough to support a pseudo feeling of touching virtual products with human hands or fingertips during design evaluation of digital handheld products.

  • Accoarding as a specimen for reinforced concrete bridge deck was designed by each researcher's opinions, its size and shape was variable. Therefore, it makes difficult to comparison with other experiments. In the result of researching papers for design method of reinforced concrete bridge deck specimens, there is hardly found. The target of this study is introduction of the design method of a reinforced concrete bridge deck specimen. The most important point for the specimen design is materialization of the curvature of the real bridge deck. The result of this study appears that the specimens thickness effects highly to fit for the real reinforced concrete bridge deck's curvature.

  • Recently the importance of the utilization of engineering data is gradually increasing. Engineering data contains the experiences and know-how of experts. Data mining technique is useful to extract knowledge or information from the accumulated existing data. This paper deals with generating optimal polynomials using genetic programming (GP) as the module of Data Mining system. Low order Taylor series are used to approximate the polynomial easily as a nonlinear function to fit the accumulated data. The overfitting problem is unavoidable because in real applications, the size of learning samples is minimal. This problem can be handled with the extended data set and function node stabilization method. The Data Mining system for the ship design based on polynomial genetic programming is presented.

  • The objectives of this study are an establishment of developing strategies of environment-friendly agriculture(EFA) around the Daecheong and Chungju Dam. To establish strategic target, a series of farm household survey were conducted for farmers residing around the Dacchcong and Chungju Dam. The sample size of the survey is 233 respectively. As a result, the farmers rgcognized that EFA is fit for around Daecheong and Chungiu Dam as well as the prospects is very bright. In conclusion, the main streams to develop EFA are come up with vision and purpose around dam area, systematic connection of environment-friendly agricultural capability around dam area, construction of organic resource circulation system, and connecting propulsion with green tourism including quantitative and qualitative upgrade of environment-friendly agricultural products.

  • In PMN-pyrochlore phase mixtures, dielectric constant was measured as a function of the volume fraction of pyrochlore phase and considered with general effective media(GEM) equation. For the application of GEM equation to this system, the critical volume fraction(Vc) where connectivity between the perovskite PMN and pyrochlore phase changed from 0-3 to 3-3, was determined based on the each particle size ratio of two phases with microstructural observation. And then the t value was determined from modified percolation powder-law dependence ( K-Kc (V-Vc)t). In the case of applying such values of t and Vc to the GEM equation, which provided a reasonable fit to the measured dielectric constant within the experimental error range.

  • In this paper, we propose a new real-time traffic monitoring scheme for the BcN, the RBC algorithm and investigate its operation. We implemented RBC algorithm and constructed the testbed and we confirmed the performance for this. The simulation result shows that traffic monitoring log size is reduced remarkably by using the RBC. An operation hour is reduced and a feedback support of Real-time is possible also. Consequently, RBC algorithm confirmed we are fit for Real-time TE plan for BcN.

A Modification of the W Test for Exponentiality

  • Shapiro and Wilk (1972) developed a test for exponentiality with origin and scale unknown. The procedure consists of comparing the generalized least squares estimate of scale with the estimate of scale given by the sample variance. However the test statistic is inconsistent ; that is, the power of the test will not approach 1 as the sample size increases. Hence we give a test based on the ratio of two asymptotically efficient estimates of scale. We also have conducted a power study to compare the test procedures, using Monte Carlo samples from a wide range of alternatives. It is found that the suggested statistics have higher power for the alternatives with the coefficient of variation greater that or equal to 1.
