  • Recently, there has been a gradual increase in the number of people who are interested in cycling, leading to an increasing number of cycling equipment consumers. However, many bicyclists get hurt because of their lack of knowledge about the right size of bicycle for their body. Although it is necessary for a rider to fit their bicycle to prevent injury, they reject a fitting service because of the long hours and high cost. In this study, we propose a bicycle fitting system that uses a depth camera to improve the limitations of existing manual fitting systems. With the defined formula, the system calculates the size of the bicycle using body image information extracted by a depth camera and visualizes a customized bicycle for a specific consumer. This system will not only save the customer time and money, but will prevent injury from the use of a bicycle that does not fit.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the influence of belief in body control on appearance satisfaction using structural equation modeling. In the structural equation model, self-esteem was included as a common predictor variable of belief in body control and appearance satisfaction, and the ideal body type and perceived body type were included as mediator variables. The data was collected from 96 female college students in the State of Washington, United States, Using AMOS 4, confirmatory factor analyses were conducted to fit the measurement models, and then the fit of the structural model was examined. The results of this study are as follows: The indirect effect of belief in body control on appearance satisfaction through its negative effect on ideal body type was significant. Yet, the direct path of belief in body control to appearance satisfaction and the indirect path through their common relationships with self-esteem were found not significant. These results indicate that higher body control belief may lead to lower appearance satisfaction due to the decreased size of ideal body type.

  • The purpose of this study was to develop a suitable jacket pattern for elderly women. The subjects were two women of the ages of 65-70, who had different bust size. To reflect the ready made pattern drafting systems, 4 industrial patterns were selected. After analyzing the problems of these patterns, a new jacket pattern was proposed. The results were as follows : 1) The amount of appropriate ease in fitted jacket for elderly women was about 10cm at the bust circumference, 10∼12cm at the hip circumference and the height of sleeve cap was AH/3+0.5cm. 2) Considering an enlargement of waist and abdomen, difference between front and back size was 2cm on the bust line, 6-8cm on the waist and hip line. 3) Because of the shape of concavity of back-waist, center back line in the pattern was folded by 0.5cm from center back waist toward side seam for manipulation. 4) The new jacket pattern was compared with the existing pattern through the wearing test by sensory evaluation. It showed that the fit and comfort of experimental pattern was superior to those of the existing pattern.

  • The purpose of this study is for size suitability and fitness improvement for Korean 20's women. This study has classified hip types of 20's women by the 6th Korean Anthropometric Survey(Size Korean), then compared their lower body-type by hip types each other. The results are as follows. Factor analysis in sorting hip types can be explained 77.72% by nine factors. And cluster analysis can be divided into three types. Type 1 is referred to as a general type which has the largest size in the 'Hip circumference', but the buttocks's horizontal sizes are in the middle size besides the hip line. Type 2 is referred to as a protruding type in upper buttocks which is large in protruding volume of upper buttocks, but the buttock's horizontal sizes are small including 'Hip circumference', and buttock's horizontal section form close to circle. Type 3 is referred to as a type which is contrary to Type 2. Type 3 is small in protruding volume of upper buttocks, but large in lower buttocks, and the protrusions in whole buttocks are small, so the side view of Type 3 made gentle fit shape. By these results, the study could classify lower body of 20's women, and it can be basic data for new sizing systems and pattern development of bottoms.

  • We have made knitwear in a different way from the typical woven pattern; it does not have the dart, even for women's tops. The purpose of this research was to compare the fit and appearance of the torso pattern for circular knitted fabric between virtual try-on garments and real garments. First, a woman in her 20's was scanned by a 3D body scanner, and thus producing a virtual avatar. I prepared knit patterns and created a torso pattern appropriate for circular knitted fabric. Next, I measured the body size of the avatar. The 2D patterns for the torso and sleeves were developed using the Yuka Super ALPHA : Plus. The 3D virtual garments were made from the imported 2D patterns and were then tried on the 3D virtual avatars. Finally, the fit of the real garments and the virtual garments was compared. While the shape of the virtual try-on garments were similar to the real garments, the folding and sagging were different. This study found the length was the same as woven wear. However the actual bust size and the clothing size were the same which is not a typical characteristic of woven wear. In the case of hem measurement, more space was needed than actual body size but less space was needed than in woven patterns.

  • The construction of athlete's tight-fitting garments by reducing the elastic knit pattern is an interesting subject, which directly influences the performance of the wearer. Therefore, relationships between the reduction rates of the men's pants pattern obtained using measurements of Size Korea 2004 and clothing fitting were explored to improve clothing comfort. Two pattern making methods were developed and the reduction rates were applied to those pants depending on the parts of human body. The four male subjects were university students in the ages of 20 to 24. Subjective wear sensations of the experimental garments were rated using seven Likert scales during 4 consecutive days. While wearing the garments, subjects were kept four various postures including waist flexion and sitting etc by requests of the researchers. Likert type scale was used for the evaluation and 7 point indicates that it gave the best fit as tight-fitting pants. As results, differences in the length and girth between two piece pants pattern(style 1) and one piece pants pattern(style 2) were 0.0$\sim$0.3cm. Between two pattern making methods, one piece pants pattern(the style 2) was superior to two piece pants pattern in terms of subjective sensation and fit. Among eight tight-fitting pants, C, D, G, H pants were superior in terms of fitting and stability of waist and hip part to the others. ill case of tight-fitting pants, the reduction rate of the pattern in the course direction, the reduction rate of T2/3(66%) was better than that of T/2(50%), but the reduction rate of the pattern in the wale direction, that of the part of crotch, which was very sensitive part, should be kept the same as suggested earlier by Ziegert(1988).

  • This study aims to identify the current sizing communication issues of menswear on retail websites and to suggest an effective size information presentation method. Based on sales frequency and awareness in the Korean menswear market, 22 brand websites were selected, and size-related information was investigated using 7 types of representative apparel items. The current diverse types of size codes had limitations in delivering actual product size information. Many websites preferred to display garment dimensions rather than basic body measurements, which is the suggested size designation method in Korean Standard. The websites posted fit model photos and customer reviews. However, the body size specifications, which consumers can use as a useful reference, were often omitted. There was also a high uncertainty in product size selection, with only the basic body measurement information listed, and there was a high deviation of garment dimensions within the same basic body measurements. The product size distribution did not match actual Korean body types. Based on the findings, we suggested improved effective sizing communication methods. These methods will contribute to a better online shopping environment for both consumers and retail sellers.

  • Marginal and internal fit are very important factor for the clinical long-term success of fixed dental prostheses (FDPs). A variety of methods have been applied to the measuring marginal and internal fit of FDPs. The purpose of this study was to compare the marginal and internal fit of 2 different measuring methods silicone replica technique [SRT] and die cutting technique (DCT). SRT, the space between die and FDPs were filled with light-body silicone, then stabilized by medium-body silicone. DCT, the FDPs were cemented on definitive dies and embedded into epoxy. The silicone replicas and epoxies were sectioned mesio-distal and measured 4 locations (margin, rounded chamfer, axial, occlusal) and using a digital microscope at a magnification $\times$160. For the SRT the mean${\pm}$SDs fit (${\mu}m$) recorded were: margin $88.7{\pm}22.2$, rounded chamfer $90.6{\pm}25.0$, axial wall $61.5{\pm}21.8$, occlusal $134.9{\pm}30.8$. For the DCT the mean${\pm}$SDs fit (${\mu}m$) recorded were: margin $85.3{\pm}18.0$, rounded chamfer $85.4{\pm}24.7$, axial wall $62.0{\pm}21.3$, occlusal $131.7{\pm}30.5$. The mean${\pm}$SDs size (${\mu}m$) of SRT margin was $88.7{\pm}22.2$ and of DCT margin was $85.3{\pm}18.0$. There were no statistically significant difference (p<0.05) of the four parts between SRT and DCT. It is considered an appropriate case to use SRT at fit of FDPs.

  • In 2012, Korea introduced a Renewable Portfolio Standard (RPS) scheme, replacing the Feed-in Tariff (FIT) scheme as a market support policy of renewable energy in the electricity market. RPS is to allocate obligatory quota of renewable energy sources for electricity suppliers, whereas FIT is to guarantee high prices for electricity from renewable energy sources. This study examines the effect of this policy change on solar photovoltaic market. According to the study, solar PV market grew fast under FIT as well as under RPS. However, under RPS the size of subsidy for solar PV suppliers was shrunk substantially. In addition, market risk increased severly under RPS due to the volatility of price of renewable energy certificate (REC) as well as of the electricity market price. The small and medium suppliers of solar PV were suffered the most severly from these policy effects. Therefore, the policy reform of RPS is needed to alleviate the market risk of small and medium suppliers of solar PV.

  • The purpose of this study was to develop the pattern of scuba diving suits for local men in their thirties by using 3D body-scanned data. It is widely acknowledged that draping method is more suitable than flat pattern for body shape as most scuba diving suits in the market are designed to fit the body tightly in a single piece with sleeves and legs. A dummy for this study was made based on men's standard clothing sizes in 30's which was derived from data of 2004 Size Korea. Accordingly, the basic body block was built upon through draping method. Next, a scuba diving suit was made from neoprene, followed by fit and the clothing pressure tests in order to evaluate the diving suit's functionality and comfort. The results of the fit test had high points of 4.33 in majority parts except armhole and crotch ones. In comparison of clothing pressure between wearer and dummy, the clothing pressure of wearer was indicated relatively low in most parts other than armhole and knee, resulting from cushion function of skin and muscle and high stretch of fabric.
