  • We investigated the impact of domain size on the simulated summer precipitation over the Korean Peninsula using the Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) model. Two different domains are integrated up to 72-hours from 29 June 2017 to 28 July 2017 when the Changma front is active. The domain sizes are adopted from previous RDAPS (Regional Data Assimilation and Prediction System) and current LDAPS (Local Data Assimilation and Prediction System) operated by the Korea Meteorological Administration, while other model configurations are fixed identically. We found that the larger domain size showed better prediction skills, especially in precipitation forecast performance. This performance improvement is particularly noticeable over the central region of the Korean Peninsula. Comparisons of physical aspects of each variable revealed that the inflow of moisture flux from the East China Sea was well reproduced in the experiment with a large model domain due to a more realistic North Pacific high compared to the small domain experiment. These results suggest that the North Pacific anticyclone could be an important factor for the precipitation forecast during the summer-time over the Korean Peninsula.

  • In this letter, a simple model parameter extraction methodology for an on-chip spiral inductor is proposed based on a wide-band inductor model that incorporates parallel inductance and resistance to model skin and proximity effects, and capacitance to model the decrease in series resistance above the frequency near the peak quality factor. The wide-band inductor model does not require any frequency dependent elements, and model parameters can be extracted directly from the measured data with some curve fitting. The validity of the proposed model and parameter extraction methodology are verified with various size inductors fabricated using $0.18\;{\mu}m$ CMOS technology.

  • Although the specific resistance to filtration is the most frequently employed means for characterizing dewaterability of a sludge, it presently is not possible to design nor to prediet performance of dewatering facilities using traditional linearized parabolic filtration equation, that is, the specific resistance model because of theoretical and practical inadequacies of the concept. Limitations of the specific resistance model reflect the need to examine fundamental sludge properties and filtration behaviors affecting dewaterability. From this study, two major limitations of the specific resistance model were noted. First, specific resistance values are very dependent on the sludge concentration because of the variations of particle size distribution and cake clogging to occur when surface area mean diameter is less than $25{\mu}m$ for activated sludge, $18{\mu}m$ for water treatment plant sludge. Second, nonparabolic filtration behavior can result from cake clogging, caused by the migration of fine particles into the cake pores, accelated by skin effect with highly compressible sludges.

  • Finite element analysis is used to study the role of interfacial properties on the bond strength of reinforcing steel to concrete. Specifically, the role played by epoxy coatings on the failure of standard beam-end specimens is explored. Experimental results show that epoxy coatings reduce bond strength, but that the effect is dependent on the bar size and the deformation pattern. The finite element model for the beam-end specimen includes representations for the deformed steel bar, the concrete, and the interfacial material. The interface elements can be varied to match the stiffness and friction properties of the interfacial material. Cracking within the concrete is represented using Hillerborg's ficticious crack model. The model is used to study important aspects or behavior observed in the tests and to provide an explanation for the effect of the various test parameters.

  • In this research, CFD calculation was implemented to analyze wind tunnel effect or rotor experiment in wind tunnel. One case included model wind turbine and all wind tunnel geometries. The other case include only rotor and nacelle system. Star-CCM+ was used for CFD analysis and rigid body motion around rotor area was applied to simulate rotating rotor. As for turbulence model, K-omega SST was used. The results were compared in 15m/s inflow condition. These results shows a good agreement with the measurement. Then, the result without wind tunnel was slightly different to the result with wind tunnel. Thus, in the case of Mexnex wind tunnel measurement, the wind tunnel don't affect the measurement result. Then, this wind tunnel and rotor size ratio can be reference for wind tunnel experiment of wind turbine rotor.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the causal correlation between communication skill of organization and their job performance. In our model, we used these variables - innovation awareness, job satisfaction, organizational commitment as a parameter. In order to verify the hypothesis based on research model, a survey among researchers (sample size=117) who work in food company was carried out. Analyzing hypothesized model and following the statistical procedure, we could assure that there exist positive correlation with communication skill, innovation awareness, job satisfaction, organizational commitment and organizational performance. A coefficient of correlation between those variables was clearly high in the group with good communication skill. Among the parameters, the variable of innovation awareness was more effected on their job performance.

  • In this paper, we investigate the inter-organizational information systems effect to supply chain partnerships, and subsequently to the performance. The conceptual model for the causal relationships among interorganizational systems usage, interaction, partnership, and supply chain performances has been developed. Theoretical framework is based on the partnership research in relationship marketing area, and the interaction model from IMP group. The questionnaires are designed to test the hypotheses of the conceptual model. The survey result supports our hypotheses that collaborative IT effects to increase the interaction between the firms, and interaction causes to enhance the partnership quality. Also, the level of partnership shows strong positive correlation with the supply chain performances. Despite the limitations of collected sample data size, our study reveals the fact that inter-organizational information systems contribute to supply chain performance through enhancing the interaction and partnership level between the supply chain partners. Our research result is distinct from the most extant literatures that investigated the firm's collaboration impact on interorganizational systems usage.

  • The fringe field effects on the transient characteristics of nano-electromechanical (NEM) memory cells have been discussed by using an analytical model. The influence of fringe field becomes stronger as the size of a cell decreases. By using the proposed model, the dependency of NEM memory transient characteristics on cell parameters has been evaluated.

  • The static characteristics of four-nozzle flapper valves are investigated with both constant flow and constant supply pressure. The ranges, in which linearization of these characteristics would be valid, are discussed. Linearized dynamic model is also derived. Numerical simulations of nonlinear dynamic model are carried out by HyPneu to make an assessment of the effect of input step size in both cases of no-load and blocked-load operation.

  • Accurately predicting the thermal hydraulic parameters of a transient reactor core under different working conditions is the first step toward reactor safety. Mass flow rate and temperature are important parameters of core thermal hydraulics, which have often been modeled as time series prediction problems. This study aims to achieve accurate and continuous prediction of core thermal hydraulic parameters under instantaneous conditions, as well as test the feasibility of a newly constructed gated recurrent unit (GRU) model based on the soft attention mechanism for core parameter predictions. Herein, the China Experimental Fast Reactor (CEFR) is used as the research object, and CEFR 1/2 core was taken as subject to carry out continuous predictive analysis of thermal parameters under transient conditions., while the subchannel analysis code named SUBCHANFLOW is used to generate the time series of core thermal-hydraulic parameters. The GRU model is used to predict the mass flow and temperature time series of the core. The results show that compared to the adaptive radial basis function neural network, the GRU network model produces better prediction results. The average relative error for temperature is less than 0.5 % when the step size is 3, and the prediction effect is better within 15 s. The average relative error of mass flow rate is less than 5 % when the step size is 10, and the prediction effect is better in the subsequent 12 s. The GRU model not only shows a higher prediction accuracy, but also captures the trends of the dynamic time series, which is useful for maintaining reactor safety and preventing nuclear power plant accidents. Furthermore, it can provide long-term continuous predictions under transient reactor conditions, which is useful for engineering applications and improving reactor safety.
