In this paper, we present a comparative study of spatial domain features for writer identification and verification with different ink width conditions. The existing methods give high error rates, when comparing two handwritten images with different pen types. To the best of our knowledge, we are the first to design the feature with different ink width conditions. To address this problem, contour based features were extracted using a chain code method. To improve accuracy at higher levels, we considered histograms of chain code and variance in bins of histogram of chain code as features to discriminate handwriting samples. The system was trained and tested for 1,000 writers with two samples using different writing instruments. The feature performance is tested on our newly created dataset of 4,000 samples. The experimental results show that the histogram of chain code feature is good compared to other methods with false acceptance rate of 11.67%, false rejection rate of 36.70%, average error rates of 24.18%, and average verification accuracy of 75.89% on our new dataset. We also studied the effect of amount of text and dataset size on verification accuracy.

Since smartphone contains various personal data, security is one of the important aspects in smartphone technologies. Up to now, various authentication techniques have been proposed to protect smartphones. The pattern lock on the Android system is one of the most widely used authentication methods for low-cost devices but it is known to be vulnerable to smudge attack or shoulder surfing attack. LG's smartphone uses its own technique, which is called "Knock Code." The knock code completes the authentication by touching the user defined area in turn on the screen. In this paper, we propose the new, enhanced version of knock code by adding the sliding operation and by using flexible area recognition. We conducted security analysis, which shows that under the same password size, the search space is overwhelmingly larger than the original algorithm. Also, by using the sliding operation, the proposed scheme shows resilience against smudge attacks. We implemented the prototype of our scheme. Experimental results show that compared with the original Knock Code and Android pattern lock, our scheme is more convenient while providing better security.
Bioassay data analysis software (BiDAS-2007) has been developed by KAERI, which adds several new functions to its previous version. New functions of the BiDAS-2007 computer code enable the user not only to do a simultaneous analysis by using two or more types of bioassay for the best internal dose evaluation, but also to do a continual internal dose evaluation from a change of the internal exposure conditions such as an intake type (acute, chronic), an intake pathway (inhalation, ingestion), an absorption type (Type F, M, S), and a particle size (AMAD, activity median aerodynamic diameter), and also to estimate the intakes in various conditions of an internal exposure at a time. The values calculated by the BiDAS-2007 code are consistent and in good agreement with those values by IMIE-2004 code by Berkovski and IMBA code by Birchall. The BiDAS-2007 computer code is very useful and user-friendly to estimate the radionuclide intakes and committed effective doses of a radiation worker.

Pseudo dynamic test is an on-line computer control method to achieve the realism of shaking table test with the economy and versatility of the conventional quasi-static approach Pseudo dynamic tests of six full-size RC bridge piers have been carried out to investigate their seismic performance. For the purpose of precise evaluation, the experimental investigation was conducted to study the seismic performance of the real size specimen, which is constructed for highway bridge piers in Korean peninsula. Since it is believed that Korea belongs to the moderate seismicity region, five test specimens were designed in accordance with limited ductility design concept. Another one test specimen was nonseismically designed according to a conventional code. Important test parameters were transverse reinforcement and lap splicing. Lap splicing was frequently used in the plastic hinge region of many bridge columns. Furthermore, the seismic design code is not present about lap splice in Korean Roadway Bridge Design Code. The results show that specimens designed according to the limited ductility design concept exhibit higher seismic resistance. Specimens with longitudinal steel lap splice in the plastic hinge region appeared to significantly fail at low ductility level.

This paper concentrates on the development of a computational design program to determine nozzle size in water jet, combing the numerical optimization technique with the flow analysis code. To achieve the above objective, a two-dimensional model was developed for investigating the fluid flow in water jet and calculating the velocity and pressure distributions. The mathematical formulation as a standard ${k}-\varepsilon$ model was solved employing a general thermo fluid-mechanics computer program, PHOENICS code, which is based on the Semi-Implicit Method Pressure Linked Equations(SIMPLE) algorithm. The developed code was applied to water jet design to determine the nozzle size, and investigated the effect of the change of nozzle location. Calculated results showed that the flow pattern is not changed as the change of nozzle location.

This work presents an assessment of the computational performance of a vector-parallel implementation of probabilistic model for concrete cracking in 3D. This paper shows the continuing efforts towards code optimization as reported in earlier works Paz, et al. (2002a,b and 2003). The probabilistic crack approach is based on the direct Monte Carlo method. Cracking is accounted by means of 3D interface elements. This approach considers that all nonlinearities are restricted to interface elements modeling cracks. The heterogeneity governs the overall cracking behavior and related size effects on concrete fracture. Computational kernels in the implementation are the inexact Newton iterative driver to solve the non-linear problem and a preconditioned conjugate gradient (PCG) driver to solve linearized equations, using an element by element (EBE) strategy to compute matrix-vector products. In particular the paper analyzes code behavior using OpenMP directives in parallel vector processors (PVP), such as the CRAY SV1 and CRAY T94. The impact of the memory architecture on code performance, and also some strategies devised to circumvent this issue are addressed by numerical experiment.

JSize is a Java equivalent of the Unix size program. The Unix size program analyses an executable file and estimates the size of code and data segment when the file is loaded on memory. Likewise, JSize analyze a Java class file and estimates the size of class area when the file is loaded on memory. This paper presents the principles necessary to estimate the class area size with the information obtained from a class file. An experimental result is included to show the accuracy of estimation the JSize provides.

One of various low-density parity-check(LDPC) codes that has been adopted in many communication standards due to its error correction ability is a quasi-cyclic LDPC(QC-LDPC) code, which leads to comparable decoder complexity. One of the main blocks in the QC-LCDC code decoder is a multi-size circular shifter(MSCS) that can perform various size rotation. The MSCS can be implemented with many structures, one of which is based on Banes network. The Benes network structure can perform the normal MSCS operation efficiently, but it cannot use the properties coming from specifications like rotation sizes. This paper proposesd a scheme where the Benes network structure can use the rotation size property with the modification of the control signal generation. The proposed scheme is applied to the MSCS of IEEE 802.16e WiMAX QC-LDPC decoder to reduce the number of MUXes and the critical path delay.
Like the conventional digital storage systems, volume holographic memory can be deteriorated by burst errors due to its high-density storage characteristics. These burst errors are used byoptical defects such as scratches, dust particles, etc. and are two-dimensional in a data page. To deal with these errors, we introduce some concepts for describing them and propose efficient two- dimensional interleaving schemes. The schemes are two-dimensional lattices of an error-correction code word and have equilateral triangular and square structures. Using these structures, we can minimize the number of code words that are interleaved and improve the efficiency of the system. For large size burst errors, the efficient interleaving structure is an equilateral triangular lattice. However, for some small size burst errors, it is reduced to a square lattice.
