  • The study of leadership has been an important and central part of various organizations. The purpose of this study is to provide an overview of the literature on organizational leadership, with an emphasis on recent trends and developments likely to dominate the field through the turn of the century. Leadership has been studied in different ways, depending on the researcher's conception of leadership and methodological preferences. Most of the studies divide naturally into distinct lines of research and can be classified according to whether the primacy focus is on leader traits, behavior, influence, or situational factors. Charismatic and transformational, and self leadership, a subject that became popular in recent years, can be viewed as a hybrid approach that involves elements from each of the other approaches. • The purpose of this study is to derive practical implications by verifying the influence of MSME owners' leadership type and management performance on knowledge management. In addition, we tried to verify the mediating role of knowledge management between the leadership type and management performance of MSME owners. Leadership types were divided into transformational leadership and transactional leadership. Transformational leadership consisted of charisma and inspirational motivation, while transactional leadership consisted of situational rewards and management by exception. For data collection, we conducted a survey targeting workers in small businesses. After excluding insincere data that were inappropriate for analysis, we used the remaining 243 samples for empirical analysis. To test the hypothesis, we adopted regression analysis and three-step mediated regression analysis as analysis methods. As a result of the empirical analysis, all seven hypotheses derived were supported, and the main results are summarized as follows. First, we found that MSME owners' transformational leadership and transactional leadership had a positive effect on knowledge management and management performance. Second, we found that knowledge management of MSME owners had a positive effect on business performance. Third, both transformational leadership and transactional leadership of MSME owners were found to be partially mediated by knowledge management in relation to management performance. Based on these research results, we derived practical implications for MSME owners.

  • Data from a series of four studies on leadership behavior are analyzed and compared to identify effective patterns of leadership behavior for platoon leaders and battalion commanders in ROK Army. Multiple-method research strategy is utilized in four studies to overcome some of the limitations of previous researches. Two of four studies employ a questionnaire method, and the rest use content analysis of critical incidents. Important behaviors for leadership effectiveness in both platoon leaders and battalion commanders include Supporting and Motivating Task Commitment. However, Developing and Monitoring Operations are only important in platoon level, and Planning & Organizing and Recognizing & Rewarding only in battalion level. Most discrepancies in results among studies can be explained in terms of either method effects or situational differences in role requirements for leaders.

  • The research objective was to find out how Total Quality Management (TQM) mediates antecedents of employee performance variables? The research was conducted with a quantitative approach while the research design was cross sectional. The research model was tested using the structural equation modeling approach with partial least square analysis tools to test the influence among research variables. The research sample consisted of 315 respondents who answered a questionnaire in August-September 2019 at manufacturing companies in East Java. The results showed that situational leadership did not affect employee performance, but did affect the successful implementation of TQM. The performance measurement system has no direct effect on employee performance. The performance measurement system has a direct effect on employee performance. Organizational culture has a direct effect on both employee performance and the application of TQM, so that the application of TQM can improve employee performance. TQM implementation variable acts as a mediation between situational leadership and organizational culture on employee performance. The relationship that was originally a direct influence turned into an indirect effect through TQM. The TQM variable is not proven to be an intervening variable between the performance measurement system and employee performance. There is a direct relationship between these two variables.

  • The current problems with the changing nature of the battlefield of the future point up the serious need for more and better research on the nature of effective military leadership. The purpose of this study was to examine effective leadership traits and behaviors of junior officers in combat situation. During times of peace, leader study battles and imagine themselves in all sorts of combat situations while at the same time, they must cope with numerous challenges and fill a variety of roles that they perceive are not battle related. This illustrates one of the fundamental paradoxes of the peacetime environment. Early studies, showing that combat leadership and noncombat leadership needed different talents, produced some clusters of traits which good combat leader were said to possess. Good combat leaders, for example, were described as possessing courage(e.g., bravery, fearlessness, daring, prowess, gallantry, guts, intrepidity, undaunted courage, fighting spirit, aggressive action), personal integrity(e.g., sincerity, flair, calmness, modesty), adaptability(e.g., flexibility, rapidity in action, speedy decision-making, clarity of thought) and so on. Behaviors found to be important in both combat and noncombat situations bore some relation to role requirements common to both situations. Behaviors important in one situation but not the other could be explained in terms of situational differences in role requirements for effective leadership. In order to achieve this purpose, a number of literature reviews were analysed. These results, though obtained in a somewhat rough and ready fashion, were useful not because they pointed to different leaders in war and in peace, but because they showed leaders the different things that were expected of them in different situations. It was also worth knowing how develop combat leadership. While these findings clearly suggest combat and noncombat differences, they do not necessarily confirm the complete study on effective leadership in combat situation. In conclusion, this study would be useful basis for further improvement on effective combat leadership and some further researches were recommended.

  • It has been focused on that the major reasons of aircraft accidents resulted not from human error but from the failure of teamwork or communication in 1980's. Such opinions were suggested in the workshop, so called, "Resource Management on the Flight Deck" by NASA in 1979. The researchers agreed the fact the source of human error was originated from the failure in teamwork, communication or even in leadership of captain. Due to the rapid development of aircraft technologies, the reasons for aircraft accident could be easily found out. According to the analysis results of the technology, most of reasons for the accident might directly be connected not to human error or stick-Rudder skill but to situational awareness, communication, leadership or decision making in the aircraft. This paper has tried to research empirically the satisfaction of flight crews who have gone thorugh CRM training in the commercial airline. Based on the quantitative scale by J. Ford et al. (2014), this paper has proved which characteristics of CRM training has a positive impact on the overall satisfaction of CRM training. It was proven that the teamwork and decision making programs among CRM training have a major effect to the satisfaction level of flight crews.

  • This study is aimed at suggesting the implications about the utility of team system and importance of leadership through the analysis of what influence of transformational leadership and self leadership has on team performance. This study used the LMX theory & social exchange theory arguing that exchange relation quality forms between organizational members, and situational theory stating that leadership suited for business environment should be displayed as the theoretical background of this research. This study, targeting 9 domestic energy-related public enterprises, proved the research hypotheses through regression analysis under SPSS 20.0 by using the effective data on 880 respondents from 166 teams in total. As a result of the research, a team leader's transformational leadership was found to have a positive influence on team performance, and the behaviour strategy, and cognitive strategy of self leadership were found to significantly modulate the relation between a team leader's transformational leadership and team performance, thus getting to adopt all of the initially-set research hypotheses. The salient point was that the effect was found to be much stronger from the group whose self leadership was low. What this research results imply is that if a team leader in team organization should look to it that team members themselves could be self-motivated by assigning goals, which can be put into practice with concern, to the members of a group whose self leadership is relatively low, team performance could improve more clearly than would otherwise be the case.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the impact of issue leadership by sales managers on sales team performance, while examining the mediating role of team adaptive sales behavior and the moderating effect of team-member exchange (TMX). Data was collected from 125 sales teams, and both independent and dependent variables were measured with a time difference of two months using responses from sales managers and team members. The empirical analysis revealed several important findings. Firstly, the study found that issue leadership had a significant positive effect on sales team performance. Secondly, team adaptive sales behavior was found to partially mediate the relationship between issue leadership and sales team performance. Lastly, the study revealed that TMX moderated the relationship between issue leadership and sales team performance. These findings have significant academic and practical implications. Firstly, the study demonstrates the effectiveness of issue leadership as a sales leadership style in the B2C industry. Secondly, it highlights the importance of team adaptive sales behavior as a mechanism that mediates the relationship between issue leadership and sales team performance. Lastly, it underscores the significance of TMX as a situational factor that moderates the relationship between issue leadership and sales team performance. In practice, the results suggest that organizations should focus on developing issue leaders, fostering creative sales behavior at the team level, and activating social exchange within sales teams to enhance sales team performance.
