  • According to the composition of LTCC material, though it was thought that bulk defect which was made in forming process effects on the densification during the sintering, it was not reported systemically. In this study, we evaluated crystal structure, 3 point bending strength, hardness and microstructure of the samples by uniaxial pressing and tape casting using the commercial powders of the crystallizing glass and the glass/ceramic composite. In the case of glass/ceramic composite, Viox-001 powder with residual glass in the sintering, 3 point bending strength was similar regardless of forming process due to fill the bulk defect by residual glass. In the case of crystallizing glass, MLS-22, because glass phase was small in the sintering, glass did not fill the pore in the sample by uniaxial pressing process, therefore, the 3 point bending strength of it was 167 MPa. However, the 3 point bending strength of the sample by tape casting was 352 MPa and much higher. Meanwhile, crystal structure and hardness were similar regardless of forming process.

  • BCP powder was synthesized using microwave hydrothermal process with mixed calcium hydroxide and phosphoric acid. After using replica method, porous BCP scaffold was fabricated. PU (Poly Urethane) was used as the fugitive skeleton to fabricate the porous scaffold. BCP powder was mixed in PVB (Polyvinyl butyral) and ethanol solution and then applied to the PU foam by dip coating. After several times of coating and the subsequent oven drying the coated PU foam was burnt out at $750^{\circ}C$ at air to remove the PU. The resulting networked porous composites were sintered at $1250^{\circ}C$, $1300^{\circ}C$ and $1350^{\circ}C$ in microwave furnace for 30 minutes. Material properties of the porous bodies like compressive strength and porosity were investigated. Detailed microstructure of the BCP porous body was characterized by SEM and XRD and TEM techniques. In our experiments, the relationship between mechanical property and viscosity of powder, sintering temperature was investigated.

  • The influence of SiO$_2$on the microstructure and electrical properties of zinc oxide varistor was investigated. Zn$_2$SiO$_4$third phase in the sintered body was found at grain boundaries, multiple grain junctions, and occasionally within ZnO grains. This phase acted as a grain growth inhibitor, which retard the grain growth of the ZnO matrix by impeding migration on the grain boundaries. As SiO$_2$ addition increases, average grain size decreased from 40.6${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ to 26.9${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ due to the pinning effect by Zn$_2$SiO$_4$ and drag effect by Si segregation at grain boundaries, the breakdown voltage consequently increased. When SiO$_2$ addition is increased, interface state density decreased, however, the barrier height increased by decrease of donor concentration, as a result, the nonlinear exponent increased and leakage current decreased. While, as SiO$_2$ addition increase, it was found that the apparent dielectric loss factor shows a tendency of decrease. Wholly, electrical properties of zinc oxide varistor can be said to be improved by SiO$_2$addition.

  • We investigated the effects of calcination temperature and sintering additives on the sintering behaviors and microwave dielectric properties of $(Zn_{0.8}Mg_{0.2})TiO_3$. Highly densified samples were obtained at the sintering temperatures below $1000^{\circ}C$ with additions of 0.45 wt.% $Bi_2O_3$ and 0.55 wt.% $V_2O_5$. From the examination of the existing phases and microstructures before and after sintering of $(Zn_{0.8}Mg_{0.2})TiO_3$ system calcined at the various temperatures ranging from $800^{\circ}C$ to $1000^{\circ}C$, it was found that high $Q{\times}f_o$ values were obtained when unreacted or second phases in calcined body were reduced. When calcined at $1000^{\circ}C$ and sintered at $900^{\circ}C$, it consists of hexagonal as a main phase with uniform microstructure and exhibits $Q{\times}f_o$ value of 42,000 GHz and dielectric constant of 22.

  • In order to obtain desired electromagnetic propertieι high initial permeability and good frequency dependance of initial p permeability, the adding effects of sevral seeds were experimented in Mn-Zn ferrite system. As adding seed grams, calcined at sintering temperature, abnormal grains were disappeared clearly but the density and the initial permcability of sintered Mn-Zn ferrite body were decreased. On the contrary, in case of adding seed rains which were calcined below the calcination temperatnre of matrix particle, abnormal grains remained but the initial permeability was increas$\xi$d with proper s$\xi$ed content. W With proper seed content, the initial permeability was increased by 10-20% but tbe $\alpha$ltoff frequency was not changed.

  • 10mo1% Gd$_2$O$_3$ doped CeO$_2$ fine powders were synthesized by the oxalate coprecipitation method. The characteristics and sintering behavior of fine powders were investigated. The oxalate precipitates had the specific surface area of 150$m^2$/g, and appeared to be fine and spherical primary particles with a size of approximately 5.5nm. The decomposition of the precipitates occurred from a temperature around 30$0^{\circ}C$ and it was completed below 40$0^{\circ}C$, resulted in the formation of the oxide. The calcination temperature of the fine powders was suitable at 77$0^{\circ}C$. By introducing fine powders washed with alcohol and ball-milling process after calcination, the sintered body was possible to attain the value of 97% of the theoretical density at low temperature of 130$0^{\circ}C$

  • In this study, the fabrication of ultra fine grained Mo bulk was conducted. $MoO_3$ nanopowders were prepared by a high energy ball-milling process and then reduced at the temperature of $800^{\circ}C$ without holding time in $H_2$ atmosphere. The particle size of Mo nanopowder was ~150 nm and grain size was ~40 nm. The two-step process was employed for the sintering of Mo nanopowder to obtain fine grain size. The densification over 90% could be obtained by the two-step sintering with a grain size of less than 660 nm. For higher density, modified two-step sintering was designed. 95% of theoretical density with the grain size of 730 nm was obtained by the modified two-step sintering.

  • An attempt has been made to investigate the mechanism of magnetic alignment in the magnets produced by upset forging the $Pr_{20}Fe_{74}B_{4}Cu_{2}$ cast bulk alloy. Upset forging of the cast alloy was carried out for 20 sec to an 80 % thickness reduction (strain rate : $4{$\times}10^{-2}s^{-1}$) in an open die configuration at varying temperatures in the range $600^{\circ}-900^{\circ}C$. It has been found that the upset forging process at temperatures above $800^{\circ}C$ can achieve a magnetic alignment to a great extent from copper-containing Pr-Fe- B-type cast ingot. The growth manner of the ferromagnetic $Pr_{2}Fe_{14}B$ matrix grain in Pr-Fe-B-type alloys was studied by examining the morphology change of the matrix grain in sintered body, and it was found that the matrix grains grew in anisotropic manner such that the grain grew more rapidly along the a- or b-axis than along the c-axis. This anisotropic grain growth led to the plate-like shape of the matrix grain. The magnetic alignment during the upset forging was attributed to grain boundary gliding of the plate-like grains, and the geometry of the grains in the cast ingot and the presence of a large amount of the praseodymium-rich grain boundary phase were thought to play a key role in the achievement of magnetic alignment.

  • The strength (MPa), hardness (Hv), shrinkage (%) and biological properties of the HAp were measured by using an organic plasticizer which facilitates the molding and heat treatment. Mechanical properties such as compressive strength, bending strength and hardness were increased with increasing amount of plasticizer, but mechanical properties were decreased when plasticizer was added more than 7 %. This is because addition of the plasticizer above the allowable value causes cracking during molding, and such cracks promote the generation of microcracks and pores at the time of sintering, resulting in a decrease in mechanical properties. As a result of the antimicrobial activity test, no bacteria were detected regardless of the addition amount of plasticizer.

  • In this study, a sea shell was converted into bioceramic phases at three different sintering temperatures ($450^{\circ}C$, $850^{\circ}C$, $1000^{\circ}C$). Among the obtained bioceramic phases, a valuable ${\beta}-TCP$ was produced via mechanochemical conversion method from sea snail Turritella terebra at $1000^{\circ}C$ sintering temperature. For this reason, only the bioceramic sintered at $1000^{\circ}C$ was concentrated on and FT-IR, SEM/EDX, BET, XRD, ICP-OES analyses were carried out for the complete characterization of ${\beta}-TCP$ phase. Biodegradation test in Tris-buffer solution, bioactivity tests in simulated body fluid (SBF) and cell studies were conducted. Bioactivity test results were promising and high rate of cell viability was observed in MTT assay after 24 hours and 7 days incubation. Results demonstrated that the produced ${\beta}-TCP$ bioceramic is qualified for further consideration and experimentation with its features of pore size and ability to support bone tissue growth and cell proliferation. This study suggests an easy, economic method of nanobioceramic production.
