Phylogenetic position of Daphne genkwa (Thymelaeaceae) inferred from complete chloroplast data

  • Daphne genkwa (Thymelaeaceae) is a small deciduous shrub widely cultivated as an ornamental. The complete chloroplast genome of this species is presented here. The genome is 132,741 bp long and has four subregions: 85,668 bp of large single-copy and 28,365 bp of small single-copy regions are separated by 9,354 bp of inverted repeat regions with 107 genes (71 protein-coding genes, four rRNAs, and 31 tRNAs) and one pseudogene. The phylogenetic tree shows that D. genkwa is nested within Wikstroemia and is not closely related to other species of Daphne, suggesting that it should be recognized as a species of Wikstroemia.

  • Hibiscus sabdariffa L., (roselle) in the Malvaceae family is an erect subshrub known to be native to India and Malaysia. It is widely used as a food or tea material around the world, and its therapeutic effects have been widely studied. In this study, the sequencing of the complete chloroplast genome of H. sabdariffa was carried out. The result indicates a genome size of 162,428 bp, which is composed of a large single copy of 90,327 bp, two inverted repeats of 26,242 bp each, and a small single copy of 19,617 bp. Overall, a total of 131 genes were predicted, including 86 coding sequences, 37 tRNAs, and 8 rRNAs. According to a phylogenic analysis, it was clearly distinguished from outgroups such as other species of the genus Hibiscus used in the analysis.

  • For minimum phase systems, the conventional fuzzy logic controllers (FLCs) use the error and the change-of-error as fuzzy input variables. Then the control rule table is a skew symmetric type, that is, it has UNLP (Upper Negative and Lower Positive) or UPLN property. This property allowed to design a single-input FLC (SFLC) that has many advantages. But its control parameters are not automatically adjusted to the situation of the controlled plant. That is, the adaptability is still deficient. We here design a single-input direct adaptive FLC (SDAFLC). In the AFLC, some parameters of the membership functions characterizing the linguistic terms of the fuzzy rules are adjusted by an adaptive law. The SDAFLC is designed by a stable error dynamics. We prove that its closed-loop system is globally stable in the sense that all signals involved are bounded and its tracking error converges to zero asymptotically. We perform computer simulations using a nonlinear plant and compare the control performance between the SFLC and the SDAFLC.

  • A control system using a PLC has been developed for a single tower drier(STD) in a CANDU type nuclear power plant. This system will replace the existing STD control system which was implemented with mechanical timers and relays. The new control system makes it possible for an operator to perform more precise time and dew point control for the STD, thanks to the high efficiency and flexibility of the PLC. The operational cost for the control system is much reduced compared to the existing system.

  • 한 개의 pladsmid에 Gus gene과 Hygromycin resistant gene(Hpt)을 합친 vector를 개발하였다. 이 재조합된 DNA를 벼의 건조한 종자에 imbibition시켜 형질전환했을 때, hygromycin 배지에서 선별한 결과 그 발현율은 single Hpt vector와 차이 가 없었으며, 주로 뿌리의 생장점이나 자엽초에서 Gus expression을 볼 수 있였다. 또한 hygromycin 배지에서 선별되어 성체가 된 개체에서 그 genomic DNA를 뽑아 PCR을 한 결과 1Kb Hpt gene을 확인하였다. 그리고 생체에서 추출한 총 RNA에서 cDNA를 만든 후 reverse transcription PCR을 통하여, 외부 유전자의 발현을 증명하였다.

The complete chloroplast genome sequence of Korean Neolitsea sericea (Lauraceae)

  • The complete chloroplast (cp) genome sequence of Neolitsea sericea was determined by Illumina sequencing. The complete cp genome was 152,446bp in length, containing a large single-copy region of 93,796 bp and a small single-copy region of 18,506bp, which were separated by a pair of 20,072bp inverted repeats. A total of 112 unique genes were annotated, including 78 protein-coding genes (PCGs), 30 transfer RNAs, and four ribosomal RNAs. Among the PCGs, 18 genes contained one or two introns. A very low level of sequence variation between two cp genomes of N. sericea was found with seven insertions or deletions and only one single nucleotide polymorphism. An analysis using the maximum likelihood method showed that N. sericea was closely related to Actinodaphne trichocarpa.

  • The chloroplast genome of Limonium tetragonum (Thunb.) Bullock, a halophytic species, was sequenced to understand genetic differences based on its geographical distribution. The cp genome of L. tetragonum was 154,689 bp long (GC ratio is 37.0%) and has four subregions: 84,572 bp of large single-copy (35.3%) and 12,813 bp of small single-copy (31.5%) regions were separated by 28,562 bp of inverted repeat (40.9%) regions. It contained 128 genes (83 protein-coding genes, eight rRNAs, and 37 tRNAs). Thirty-five single-nucleotide polymorphisms and 33 INDEL regions (88 bp in length) were identified. Maximum-likelihood and Bayesian inference phylogenetic trees showed that L. tetragonum formed a sister group with L. aureum, which is incongruent with certain previous studies, including a phylogenetic analysis.

The complete chloroplast genome of Erigeron canadensis isolated in Korea (Asteraceae): Insight into the genetic diversity of the invasive species

  • We have determined the complete chloroplast genome of Erigeron Canadensis isolated in Korea. The circular chloroplast genome of E. canadensis is 152,767 bp long and has four subregions: 84,317 bp of large single-copy and 18,446 bp of small single-copy regions are separated by 25,004 bp of inverted repeat regions including 133 genes (88 protein-coding genes, eight rRNAs, and 37 tRNAs). The chloroplast genome isolated in Korea differs from the Chinese isolate by 103 single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) and 47 insertions and deletion (INDEL) regions, suggesting different invasion sources of E. canadensis in Korea and China. A nucleotide diversity analysis revealed that the trend of the nucleotide diversity of E. canadensis followed that of 11 Erigeron chloroplasts, except for three peaks. The phylogenetic tree showed that our E. canadensis chloroplast is clustered with E. canadensis reported from China. Erigeron canadensis can be a good target when attempting to understand genetic diversity of invasive species.

  • This paper discusses an economic study analysis of captive power plant as a commercial plant in the cost based pool market. In this paper I assumed the conversion of a captive power plant owned by factories to a commercial plant and investigated the changes in profitability associated with this. I set the total electricity expense of a captive purpose plant as state A and the costs associated with converting to a commercial purpose plant as state B. Each state subdivided by case which is classified its plant variable cost, type of generation (combined cycle, single cycle) and type of power contract received. After set model for each case, different economic benefits by each case can be calculated.

절화장미 수경재배시 배양액의 농도와 pH가 생육과 품질에 미치는 영향 (Effect of EC and pH of Nutrient Solution on the Growth and Quality of Single-Stemmed Rose in Cutted Rose Production Factory)

  • 본 실험은 장미 식물생산공장식 수경재배시 배양액의 EC와 pH와 같은 지하부 환경요인이 장미의 생육과 품질에 미치는 영향을 알아보고자 수행하였다. 배양액의 EC를 $1.0\~3.5dS{\cdot}m^{-1}$로 처리하였을 때 장미의 생육과 품질에 미치는 영향은 큰 차이가 없어 비료의 사용량을 고려하여 배양액의 농도를 높게 관리할 필요가 없는 것으로 나타났다. 광합성률, 증산률 및 생육 등은 $EC\;1.0\~1.5dS{\cdot}m^{-1}$에서 높아 single-stemmed rose수경재배에 있어 최적의 농도임을 알 수 있었다. 배양액의 pH는 pH 3.0과 7.0을 제외한 $pH\;4.0\~6.0$에서 광합성률과 증산률이 높게 나타나 장미는 배양액의 pH를 다른 작물에 비해 낮게 관리하는 것이 생육이나 무기이온 흡수에 있어 효과적인 것으로 나타났다.
