The interaction of hydrogen with ZnO single crystal surfaces, ZnO(0001) and ZnO(000-1), has been investigated using a temperature programmed desorption (TPD) technique. Both surfaces do not interact with molecular hydrogen. When the ZnO(0001) is exposed to atomic hydrogen at 370 K, hydrogen is adsorbed in the surface and desorption takes place at around 460 K and 700 K. In ZnO(000-1), the desorption peaks are observed at around 440 K and 540 K. In both surfaces, as the atomic hydrogen exposure is further increased, the intensity of the low-temperature peak reaches maximum but the intensity of the high-temperature peak keeps increasing. In ZnO(000-1), the existence of hydrogen bonding to the surface O atoms and the bulk hydrogen has been confirmed by using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). When the Zn(0001) surface is exposed to atomic hydrogen at around 200 K, a new $H_2$ desorption peak has been observed at around 250 K. The intensity of the desorption feature at 250 K is much greater than that of the desorption feature at 460 K. This low-temperature desorption feature indicates hydrogen is bonded to surface Zn atoms. We will report the effect of the ZnO structure on the adsorption and bulk diffusion of hydrogen.
Dispersions of fumed silica are made in 6 kinds of mono-solvents and mixed solvents which have hydroxyl group, non hydroxyl group, different polarity, and different molecular size. The viscosity and rheology behaviors of the each dispersion are investigated according to the viewpoint of solvent characteristic. The silica dispersion in polar solvent with hydroxyl group is stable and low viscous sol. The silica dispersion in non-polar solvent with non-hydroxyl group is high viscous gel. When the solvent with hydroxyl group is added to the silica dispersions with non-polar solvents, they show the reduction of viscosity with solvent content. They have minimum critical content which shows no viscosity change. The minimum critical solvent content is decreased according to the polarity of solvents with no hydroxyl group. The solvation layer which is formed on the silica surface through hydrogen bonding between hydroxyl-containing solvent and the silanol group of silica surface is the reason of stable and low viscous sol. In case of non-polar solvent, silanol on adjacent silica particles interacted directly by hydrogen bonding show high viscous and flocculated gel.
The title one-dimensional hydrogen-bonded coordination compound $[Cu^{II}(C_{13}H_{17}N_3OBr)(C_8H_5O_4)]{\cdot}2H_2O.CH_3OH$ has been synthesized and characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction study. The monomeric unit contains a square-planar $Cu^{II}$ centre. The four coordination sites are occupied by a tridentate anionic Schiff base ligand (4-bromo-2-[(2-piperazin-1-yl-ethylimino)-methyl]-phenol) which furnishes an $N_2O$-donor set, with the fourth position being occupied by the oxygen atom of an adjacent terephthalate unit. Two adjacent neutral molecules are linked through intermolecular N-H---O and O-H---N hydrogen bonds and generate a dimeric pair. Each dimeric pair is connected with each other via discrete water and methanol molecules by hydrogen bonding to form a one-dimensional supramolecular network.
Two holmium β-diketonate complexes, Ho(hfa)3(H2O)2 (1) and [Ho(hfa)3(H2O)2](triglyme) (2), have been prepared and characterized by IR, TGA, and single-crystal X-ray analyses. These complexes show polymeric chains by the intermolecular hydrogen bondings. The donor atoms of the intermolecular hydrogen bonding in both complexes are hydrogen atoms of the coordinated water molecules. The acceptor atoms in 1 are the carbonyl oxygen atoms of β-diketonate ligands whereas those in 2 are oxygen atoms of the triglyme ligand. While compound 1 decomposes cleanly to Ho2O3, compound 2 sublimes intact. Crystal data for 1 and 2 are as follows: Ho(hfa)3(H2O)2 triclinic P1, a=10.158(4), b=11.628(2), c=12.579(6) Å, α=67.02(3)°, β=73.95(4)°, γ=76.12(2)°, V=1299.8(8) Å3. [Ho(hfa)3(H2O)2](triglyme), monoclinic P21/c, a=12.559(3), b=19.111(2), c=16.789(6) Å, β=110.59(4)°, V=3772(2) Å3.
Objectives: The aim of this in vitro study was to evaluate the bond strength of 2 universal adhesives used in different application modes to bleached enamel. Materials and Methods: Extracted 160 sound human incisors were used for the study. Teeth were divided into 4 treatment groups: No treatment, 35% hydrogen peroxide, 16% carbamid peroxide, 7.5% carbamid peroxide. After bleaching treatments, groups were divided into subgroups according to the adhesive systems used and application modes (n = 10): 1) Single Bond Universal, etch and rinse mode; 2) Single Bond Universal, self-etch mode; 3) Gluma Universal, etch and rinse mode; 4) Gluma Universal, self-etch mode. After adhesive procedures nanohybrid composite resin cylinders were bonded to the enamel surfaces. All specimens were subjected to shear bond strength (SBS) test after thermocycling. Data were analyzed using a 3-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Tukey post hoc test. Results: No significant difference were found among bleaching groups (35% hydrogen peroxide, 16% carbamid peroxide, 7.5% carbamid peroxide, and no treatment groups) in the mean SBS values. There was also no difference in SBS values between Single Bond Universal and Gluma Universal at same application modes, whereas self-etch mode showed significantly lower SBS values than etch and rinse mode (p < 0.05). Conclusions: The bonding performance of the universal adhesives was enhanced with the etch and rinse mode application to bleached enamel and non-bleached enamel.

Dispersion of carbon nanotubes in biocompatible media are of particular interest for diverse biomedical and nanomedicine applications. Various biomolecules and biopolymers such as DNA, proteins, poly L-lysine, starch, gelatin, steroid biosurfactants, and chitosan have shown capability for the effective dispersion of carbon nanotubes in water. Chitosan has demonstrated capacity for effective dispersion of single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) in acidic medium and it also showed tendency to preferentially disperse smaller diameter nanotubes. Chemical functionalizations of chitosan enable its solubility in neutral pH water by reducing the intra and inter molecular hydrogen bonding. Herein, we present a neutral pH water soluble chitosan derivative, chitosan-hydroxyphenyl acetamide (CHPA), obtained by functionalizing the amino groups of chitosan with 4-hydroxyphenyl acetic acid, as an efficient biocompatible dispersant for debundling and solubilization of SWNTs in neutral aqueous solutions. Various process conditions for individual dispersion of SWCNTs are analyzed based on optical absorption and Raman spectroscopy.
The crystal structure of phlorizin, a ${\beta}$ -D-glucopyranoside of a flavonoid dihydrochalcone phloretin, has been determined by single crystal diffraction methods using diffractometer data obtained by the ${\omega}-2{\theta}$ scan technique with Cu $K{\alpha}$ radiation from a crystal with space group symmetry $P2_12_12_1$ and unit cell parameters a = 4.9094 (2), b = 19.109 (1), c = 23.275 (4) $\AA$. The structure was solved by direct methods and refined by full-matrix least-squares to a final R = 0.047 for the 1697 observed reflections. The dihydrochalcone moiety is flat and fully extended. The glucose ring has the $^4C_1$ chair conformation and the conformation of the primary alcohol group is gauche-gauche. The crystal packing is dominated by an extensive hydrogen bonding pattern. There are one strong and two weak intramolecular hydrogen bonds in the phlorizin molecule.
The crystal and molecular structure of thiourea dioxide, (NH2)2CSO2, was determined by x-ray single crystal diffraction techniques. Lattice constants are a=10.669(2), b=10.119(2), and c=3.9151(5) Å with the space group Pnma and Z=4. The thiourea portion of the molecule has a planar conformation. When the two oxygen atoms are included, the sulfur atom is at the apex of a trigonal pyramid formed with the two oxygen atoms and the carbon atom as the base. The crystal structure is stabilized by strong intermolecular hydrogen bonds. Ab initio calculations were performed to investigate the bonding features and reactivity of thiourea dioxide. The calculated bond order of S-C is only 0.481. The hydrogen bond energy was computed to be 22.3 kcal/mol for dimer. MEP analysis reveals that the sites on nucleophilic reactions are S and C atoms.
The crystal structure of chloramphenicol base, $C_9H_{l2}N_2O_4$, the deacylated base of antibiotic chloramphenicol, has been determined by X-ray diffraction techniques using diffractometer data obtained by the ${\omega}-2{\theta}$ scan technique with CuK${\alpha}$ radiation from a crystal with space group symmetry $P2_12_12_1$ and unit cell parameters a = 22.322(6), b = 7.535(6), c = 5.781(5) ${\AA}$. The structure was solved by direct methods and refined by full-matrix least-squares to a final R = 0.051 for the 573 observed reflections. The overall conformation of the base is quite different from those of the chloramphenicol congeners which are similar despite the presence of many rotatable single bonds. The propane chain in the base is bent with respect to the phenyl ring, while it is extended in the chloramphenicol congeners. There is no intramolecular hydrogen bond between the hydroxyl groups of the propanediol moiety. All of the molecules in the crystal lattice are connected by a three-dimensional hydrogen bonding network.

Diamond Like Carbon film is amorphous film which is considered to consist of three coordinate graphite structure and tetrahedron coordinate diamond structure. Its hardness, thermal conductivity and chemical stability are nearly to one of diamond. It is well known to become semi-conductor by doping of inpurity. In this study Diamond Like Carbon film was synthesized by Microwave Plasma CVD in the gas mixture of hydrogen-methan-nitrogen and doped of nitrogen on the single-crystal silicon or silica glass. The temperature of substrate and nitrogen concentration in the gas mixture had an effect on the bonding state, structural properties and conduction mechanism. The surface morphology was observed by Scanning Electron Microscope. The strucure was analyzed by laser Raman spectrometry. The bonding state was evaluated by electron spectroscopy. Diamond Like Carbon film synthesized was amorphous carbon containing the $sp^2$ and $sp^3$ carbon cluster. The number of $sp^2$ bonding increased as nitrogen concentration increased from 0 to 40 vol% in the feed gas at 1233K substrate temperature and at $7.4\times10^3$ Pa. Increase of nitrogen concentration made Diamond Like Carbon to be amorphous and the doze of nitragen could be controlled by nitrogen concentration of feed gas.
