Differential non-linearity correction for successive approximation ADC

  • In this paper a new method to correct the differential non-linearity(D NL) error for a successive approximation is proposed. The DNL of ADC is very important characteristic in the field of radiation pulse height analysis or measurement of probability density function. The results of computer simulations are shown to demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed correction method.

  • In this paper, through simulations, we find the second derivative SPA(Smoothed Perturbation Analysis) estimates of mean busy cycle with respect to a given parameter in a Markov renewal process which is generated by two exponential distributions. We compare these SPA estimates with the traditional SD(symetric difference) estimates.

An Analysis of Permanantly Shaded Areas and the Defect Rate of Landscape Trees in Apartment Complexes Using Daylight Simulations

  • Background and objective: The purpose of this study was to provide basic data on trees that can be used for planting design and construction for permanently shaded areas by grasping the growth status of trees according to the daylight conditions of the outdoor spaces of apartment complexes. Methods: On the recently completed apartment complexes, daylight conditions were analyzed by using daylight simulations utilizing Solar Access Analysis of Ecotect Analysis. With a criteria for assessment of tree condition, the defect rate of trees planted in permanently shaded areas and green spaces with good daylight conditions was analyzed to suggest trees applicable to permanently shaded areas. The first tree survey was conducted from November 18, 2019 to February 15, 2020, focusing on trees planted in permanently shaded areas, and the second tree survey of all the trees planted on the study sites including permanently shaded areas was conducted from March 16 to March 30, 2020. Results: Evergreen trees which are classified as shade intolerant trees including Pinus densiflora, Thuja occidentalis, and Abies holophylla showed a higher defect rate of trees among the trees planted in permanently shaded areas. Taxus cuspidata, Zelkova serrata, Cornus kousa, Chionanthus retusus and Acer palmatum which are classified as shade tolerant trees and shade moderate tolerance trees seemed to be able to be used in the plant design of permanently shaded areas in apartment complexes because the trees showed good growth and a low tree defect rate. In addition, although it was excluded from the analysis due to a small number of samples, Sorbus commixta and Prunus cerasifera var. atropurpurea also can be used for planting in permanently shaded areas. Conclusion: The daylight simulation technique used to analyze permanent shaded areas in this study can be used as an analysis tool considering the daylight environment at the stages of design and construction, and additional research will be required to analyze tree growth according to daylight conditions through data accumulation and monitoring by managing records throughout the entire life cycle of trees in the process of planting and maintenance.

Classification Analysis for the Prediction of Underground Cultural Assets (매장문화재 예측을 위한 통계적 분류 분석)

  • Various statistical classification methods have been used to establish prediction model of underground cultural assets in our country. Among them, linear discriminant analysis, logistic regression, decision tree, neural network, and support vector machines are used in this paper. We introduced the basic concepts of above-mentioned classification methods and applied these to the analyses of real data of I city. As a results, five different prediction models are suggested. And also model comparisons are executed by suggesting correct classification rates of the fitted models. To see the applicability of the suggested models for a new data set, simulations are carried out. R packages and programs are used in real data analyses and simulations. Especially, the detailed executing processes by R are provided for the other analyser of related area.

  • The objective of this study is to analyze and evaluate the impact of the stack effect in high-rise buildings for solving the various problems resulting from it. For the evaluation of the impacts on the stack effect, computer program simulations based on the network model were performed for a typical high-rise office building. The results of the simulations show that the impact caused by the stack effect is mainly dependent on building envelope air-tightness and internal air flow resistance. Therefore the problems due to the stack effect may be solved to some extent by installing vestibules around entrance doors and doors serving elevators, and by zoning the elevators.

Thermal Conductivity Analysis of Amorphous Silicon Formed by Natural Cooling: A Molecular-dynamics Study

  • To investigate the thermal conductivity and the structural properties of naturally cooled excimer-laser annealed Si, molecular-dynamics (MD) simulations have been performed. The thermal conductivity of crystalline Si (c-Si) was measured by direct method at 1000 K. Steady-state heat flow was measured using a stationary temperature profile; significant deviations from Fourier's law were not observed. Reliable processes for measuring the thermal conductivity of c-Si were presented. A natural cooling process to admit heat flow from molten Si (l-Si) to c-Si was performed using an MD cell with a size of $48.9{\times}48.9{\times}97.8{\AA}^3$. During the cooling process, the temperature of the bottom $10{\AA}$ of the MD cell was controlled at 300 K. The results suggest that the natural cooling system described the static structural property of amorphous Si (a-Si) well.
