  • A dynamic simulation program for pantograph-catenary system is developed based on a mode superposition method to predict current collection performance. Formulations for the dynamic simulation are presented in this paper. The number of modes which should be considered for a KTX catenary system is reviewed through frequency response analyses. The responses for GPU pantograph - KTX catenary system are simulated with various train speeds. The our simulation results are in reasonably good agreements with RTRI simulation program, SNCF simulation program, and BR simulation program.

Development of an Escalator Simulation Program for a Designer (설계자를 위한 에스컬레이터 전용 시뮬레이션 프로그램 개발)

  • When an escalator is developed or modified to improve its performance, estimation of dynamic characteristics of the escalator is required. But modeling of the escalator for a design purpose is very difficult and time consuming. Especially, it is very difficult for a designer to use the simulation model during design process because preparing a proper model takes time and also the designer needs to know how to use the simulation program. In order to solver these problems, a graphic user interface program that can predict dynamic characteristics of an escalator is developed for the designer. Since this program makes the necessary escalator model for simulation for itself, the designer does not need to know how to use the simulation program while design is in progress. In this paper, a designer oriented interface program is developed and an example is presented to show the effectiveness of the developed program.

  • The simulation program which can predict major performances of the multi-type heat pump system was developed. In order to verify the simulation program, several experimental tests were performed under various recommended conditions. The experimental results show in good agreement with simulation results. The verified simulation program was used to analyze the system performance. The capacities and the COP's under the various indoor and outdoor conditions were predicted. Therefore, it may be concluded that the system simulation program developed in this study may be effectively used for the system design and the performance prediction of the multi-type heat pump system.

  • Purpose: This study was designed to develop and evaluate the a web-based simulation program on patient rights education using integrated decision making model into values clarification for nurse students. Methods: The program was designed based on the Aless & Trollip model and Ford, Trygstad-Durland & Nelms's decision model. Focus groups interviews, surveys on learning needs for patient rights, and specialist interviews were used to develop for simulation scenarios and decision making modules. The simulation program was evaluated between May, 2011 and April, 2012 by 30 student nurses using an application of the web-based program evaluation tools by Chung. Results: Simulation content was composed of two scenarios on patient rights: the rights of patients with HIV and the rights of psychiatric patients. It was composed of two decision making modules which were established for value clarifications, behavioral objective formations, problems identifications, option generations, alternatives analysis, and decision evaluations. The simulation program was composed of screens for teacher and learner. The program was positively evaluated with a mean score of $3.14{\pm}0.33$. Conclusion: These study results make an important contribution to the application of educational simulation programs for nurse students' behavior and their decision making ability in protecting the patient rights.

  • The application of object-oriented modeling to develop a powertrain performance simulation program, called P-DYN, is introduced. Powertrain components, such as the engine, transmission, shaft, clutch are modeled as classes which have data and method by using object-oriented modeling methodology. P-DYN, a performance simulation program, based on the object-oriented modeling is made in C++. One powertrain example is simulated through the P-DYN. It is expected that the simulation program or individual class constructed in this paper would be useful for automotive engineers in predicting the performance of powertrains and developing a simulation program.

  • In this paper, a design method of the simulation program for HILS(Hardware-In-the-Loop Simulation) system is proposed. The present method consists of definition of requirements for HILS, development of specifications, and implementation of the program to satisfy the specifications. In the implementation of the program, the application of hardware interface and the concept of structural modularization are proposed to satisfy the specifications. The concepts of CSCI(Computer Software Configuration Item) and encapsulation are used for structural modularization. The proposed method was practically applied to the development of the simulation program for the efficient operation in HILS of an anti-ship missile system.

  • An integrated simulation program for an artificial satellite's operation has been developed. The program integrates and simulates orbit mechanics, attitude control, power/energy transition and mass variation. In the early stages of satellite development, this program can be used as a communication tool among design engineers of different fields. As a result, the efficiency to design a satellite is expected to increase. This program has been coded by Modelica language which supports acausal and object oriented programming methods. Libraries are developed for satellite simulation, and simulation results are presented.

  • A computer simulation program to evaluate the performance of railway systems and train operation plans and the effects of new technologies is provided. The program has the functions of tracing the movements of trains on railway network following the indication of railway signalling system and obeying all kinds of operation rules. An object-oriented technique is applied to model railway system effectively, and it is expected that the program code can be reused easily for other railway simulation programs. Dedicated graphic user interface displaying the simulation outputs by animation during simulation process makes the program convenient to use. Simulation results on the train operations on Kyung-bu line show the proposed program is promising.
