Shear horizontal (SH) waves propagate as a type of plate wave in a thin sheet. The dispersion characteristics of SH waves can be used for signal analysis. Therefore, SH-waves are useful for monitoring the structural health of a thin-sheet-structure. An electromagnetic acoustic transducer (EMAT), which is a non-contact ultrasonic transducer, can generate SH-waves easily by varying the shape and array of magnets and coils. Therefore, an EMAT can be applied to an automated ultrasonic testing system for structural health monitoring. When used as a sensor, however, the EMAT has a weakness in that electromagnetic interference (EMI) noise can occur easily in the automated system because of motors and electric devices. Alternatively, a fiber optic sensor works well in the same environment with EMI noise because it uses a light signal instead of an electric signal. In this paper, a fiber Fabry-P$\acute{e}$rot interferometer (FFPI) was proposed as a sensor to receive the SH-waves generated by an EMAT. A simple test was performed to verify the performance of the FFPI sensor. It is thus shown that the FFPI can receive SH-wave signals clearly.
A difficulty encountered in engineering seismic mapping is that reflection events from shallow discontinuities are commonly overlapped with coherent noise such as air wave, direct waves, head waves, and high-amplitude surface waves. Here, the radial trace transform, a simple geometric re-mapping of a trace gather (x-t domain) to another trace gather (v-t domain), is applied to investigate the rejection effect of coherent linear noises. Two different types of data sets were selected as a representative database: good-quality data for intermediate sounding (hundreds of meters) in a sedimentary basin and very noisy data for shallow (${\leq}50m$) mapping of the weathered zone and bedrock surface. Results obtained with cascaded application of the radial transform and low-cut filtering proved to be as good as, or better than, those produced using f-k filtering, and were especially effective for air wave and direct wave. This simple transform enables better understanding of the characteristics of various types of noise in the RT domain, and can be generally applied to overcoming diffractions and back-scatterings caused by joints, fractures, and faults commonly that are encountered in geotechnical problems.

The method of Rankine source distribution is emerging as a powerful yet simple alternative for the solution of complicated free surface problems. But it has been uncertain whether the radiation condition could be satisfied exactly by distributing the simple sources on the free surface only. In this paper, it is proved rigorously that the Rankine sources, whose intensities are varying sinusoidally along the axis satisfying the free surface boundary condition, generate the radiation waves both in the infinite and finite-depth flows. A formula is derived to give the upper and lower bounds of the errors in the induced velocity computation that will be introduced by truncating the extent of source distribution on the free surface. Since the truncation is inevitable in the numerical analysis, this formula may be used as a criterion to limit the position of the field points, where velocity computation is made, away from the truncation boundary. A typical analysis shows that the maximum error will be 3.4 percent of the exact induced velocity when the field point is on the free surface two wave lengths away from the truncation boundary.

To predict vibrational energy density of simple structural-acoustic coupled systems in medium-to-high frequency ranges, Power Flow Finite Element Method(PFFEM) is used, and PFFEM sofiware, PFADS has been developed for the vibration predictions and analysis of coupled system structures in medium-to-high frequency ranges. However, it needs to consider vibro-acoustic coupled analysis to get more accurate results. Prior to implement vibro-acoustic coupled analysis functions in PFADS, research on vibro-acoustic coupled analysis using PFFEH is performed for simple models. These predictions include the indirect transmission path associated, and also the direct transmission path, and the formulation is extended to structural system model by using appropriate modifications to structural-acoustic and acoustic-acoustic joint matrices. Concerning the waves in plate and acoustic, it is possible to calculate the structural-acoustic full matrix of a model using PFFEM, and the formulations developed are implemented for two rooms surrounded by plates.

The mechanical behavior of granular soils is affected by particle bonding including natural cementation. This study addresses a simple model of small strain stiffness and salt concentration based on wave measurements of salt-cemented particulate media. Published models of artificially cemented soils with different curing methods and several types of cementation agents are reviewed. Glass beads with the median diameter of D50 = 0.5mm are prepared in rectangular cells using the water-pluviated method in salt water with different concentrations. Piezo disk elements and bender elements embedded in the cell are used for the measurements of compressional and shear waves. The relationships between elastic wave velocities and salt concentration show an exponential function. The measured small strain stiffness matches well the predicted small strain stiffness based on micromechanics for simple cubic monosized sphere particles. This study demonstrates that the salt concentration in salt-cemented specimen may be evaluated by using elastic wave velocities.

A wireless passive sensor network is a network consisting of sink nodes, sensor nodes, and radio frequency (RF) sources, where an RF source transfers energy to sensor nodes by radiating RF waves, and a sensor node transmits data by consuming the received energy. Against theoretical expectations, a wireless passive sensor network suffers from many practical difficulties: scarcity of energy, non-simultaneity of energy reception and data transmission, and inefficiency in allocating time resources. Perceiving such difficulties, we propose a simple contending-type medium access control (MAC) scheme for many sensor nodes to deliver packets to a sink node. Then, we derive an approximate expression for the network-wide throughput attained by the proposed MAC scheme. Also, we present an approximate expression for the optimal partition, which maximizes the saturated network-wide throughput. Numerical examples confirm that each of the approximate expressions yields a highly precise value for network-wide throughput and finds an exactly optimal partition.

This paper describes a new simulation technique for advection-diffusion phenomena over the sea surface using the lattice Boltzmann method (LBM), capable of predicting oil dispersion from tankers. The LBM is used to solve the pollutant transport problem within the framework of the ocean environment. The sea space is represented by the lattices, where each lattice has the information on oil transportation. Since dispersed oils (i.e., oil droplets) at sea are transported by convection due to waves, buoyancy, and turbulent diffusion, the conservation of mass and many physical oil transport rules were used in the prediction model. Since the LBM is modeled using the uniform lattices and simple rules, it can be easily accelerated by the parallel mechanism, for example, GPU-accelerated method. The proposed model using the LBM is used to simulate a simple pollution event with the oil pollutants of 10,000 kL. The simulation results indicate that the LBM method accelerated with the GPU is 6 times faster than that without the GPU.

In recent years, the multilevel inverter synthesizing the output voltage with step pulse has been widely used rather than PWM method as a solution for high power and high voltage applications. This method takes advantage of lower switching losses due to one switching for one period. This paper proposes a simple method to obtain the conducting angle. This method is implemented by using voltage-second areas of the divided reference voltage according to the output voltage levels. It Is possible to reduce an amount of calculation because it is not required to solve the simultaneous equations by an iterative method. Also, the proposed method can get the conducting angle by means of on-line.
The deep neural networks (DNN) that can replicate the behavior of the human expert who recognizes the characteristics of ECG waveform have been developed and studied to analyze ECG. However, although the existing DNNs can not provide the explanations for their decisions, those trials have attempted to determine whether patients have certain diseases or not and those decisions could not be accepted because of the absence of relating theoretical basis. In addition, these DNNs required a lot of training data to obtain sufficient accuracy in spite of the difficulty in the acquisition of relating clinical data. In this study, a small-sized continuous data processing DNN (C-DNN) was suggested to determine the simple characteristics of ECG wave that were not required additional explanations about its decisions and the C-DNN can be easily trained with small training data. Although it can analyze small input data that was selected in narrow region on whole ECG, it can continuously scan all ECG data and find important points such as start and end points of P, QRS and T waves within a short time. The star and end points of ECG waves determined by the C-DNNs were compared with the results performed by human experts to estimate the accuracies of the C-DNNs. The C-DNN has 150 inputs, 51 outputs, two hidden layers and one output layer. To find the start and end points, two C-DNNs were trained through deep learning technology and applied to a parameter acquisition algorithms. 12 lead ECG data measured in four patients and obtained through PhysioNet was processed to make training data by human experts. The accuracy of the C-DNNs were evaluated with extra data that were not used at deep learning by comparing the results between C-DNNs and human experts. The averages of the time differences between the C-DNNs and experts were 0.1 msec and 13.5 msec respectively and those standard deviations were 17.6 msec and 15.7 msec. The final step combining the results of C-DNN through the waveforms of 12 leads was successfully determined all 33 waves without error that the time differences of human experts decision were over 20 msec. The reliable decision of the ECG wave's start and end points benefits the acquisition of accurate ECG parameters such as the wave lengths, amplitudes and intervals of P, QRS and T waves.
The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of resilience on information processing. Thirty-nine male high school students were randomly selected and assigned to one of the three experimental groups: (1) high group (n = 13), (2) middle group (n = 13) and low group (n = 13) according to their resilience scale (KRQ-53) scores. The tasks were simple reaction time, choice reaction time-1, and choice reaction time -2. Electroencephalogram (EEG) was measured at Fp1, Fp2, F3, F4, Fz, Cz and Pz. A 3 × 8 × 4 (groups × areas × times) ANOVA with repeated measures on the last factor was calculated to determine resilience effects on EEG. P300 was analyzed using a 3 × 3 × 8 (groups × tasks × areas) ANOVA. The results showed that the theta waves of the middle group were higher than those of the high and low groups. Second, as a result of analyzing alpha waves, the high group demonstrated higher alpha waves than the middle and low groups. Third, the mid-beta waves of the middle and low groups were higher than those of the high group. Lastly, the result of this study showed that the P300 amplitude of the middle group was higher than that of the high and low groups. These results indicated that the middle group processed cognitive information more efficiently than the other two groups. The findings of this study demonstrated that cognitive information processing ability varies depending on the degree of resilience.
