  • This paper proposes a new algorithm of clustering similar nodes defined as nodes having similar characteristic values in pure P2P environment. To compare similarity between nodes, we introduce a fitness function whose return value depends only on the two nodes' characteristic values. The higher the return value is, the more similar the two nodes are. We propose a GORGFM algorithm newly in conjunction with the fitness function to recommend and exchange nodes' characteristic values for an interest group formation and maintenance. With the GORGFM algorithm, the interest groups are formed dynamically based on the similarity of users, and all nodes will highly satisfy with the information recommended and received from nodes of the interest group. To evaluate of performance of the GORGFM algorithm, we simulated a matching rate by the total number of nodes of network and the number of iterations of the algorithm to find similar nodes accurately. The result shows that the matching rate is highly accurate. The GORGFM algorithm proposed in this paper is highly flexible to be applied for any searching system on the web.

  • In this paper, I proposed an effective technique for accurately predicting pixel values using edge components. Adjacent pixel values are similar to each other. That is, generally, similarity exists between adjacent pixels in an image. In the proposed algorithm, edge components are detected using the surrounding pixels in the first step, and pixel values are estimated using the edge components in the second step. Therefore, the prediction accuracy of the pixel value is improved and the prediction error is reduced. Pixel value prediction is a necessary technique for various applications such as image magnification and confidential data concealment. Experimental results show that the proposed method has higher prediction accuracy and fewer prediction error. Therefore, the proposed technique can be effectively used for applications such as image magnification and confidential data concealment.

  • In this paper, we propose a method to measure document similarity. First, we have exploited single-term method that extracts nouns by using a lexical analyzer as a preprocessing step to match one index to one noun. In spite of irrelevance between documents, possibility of increasing document similarity is high with this method. For this reason, a term-phrase method has been reported. This method constructs co-occurrence between two words as an index to measure document similarity. In this paper, we tried another method that combine these two methods to compensate the problems in these two methods. Six types of features are extracted from two input documents, and they are fed into a neural network to calculate the final value of document similarity. Reliability of our method has been proved by an experiment of document retrieval.

  • Recently, researches have been developing efficient techniques for accessing, querying, and managing XML documents which are frequently used in the Internet. In this paper, we propose a parent-child matrix to cluster XML documents efficiently. A parent-child matrix analyzes both the content and structural features of an XML document. Each cell of a parent-child matrix has either the value of a node in an XML tree or the value of a child node, where a parent-child relationship exists in the XML tree. Then, the similarity between two XML documents can be measured by the similarity between two corresponding parent-child matrices. The experiment shows that our proposed method has good performance.

  • IT consulting is becoming a norm rather than exception in this age of smart work and information revolution. As IT consulting is one of the knowledge intensive services requiring high credence on both sides, maintaining a good trustful relationship is critical in sustenance of strategic partnership between business firms and IT service firms. Trust is known to be one of the salient constructs in service relationships. In this study, building from the social psychology literature, trust is conceptualized as two dimensions : cognitive and affective trust. Using two dimensions of trust as mediators, a research model is constructed for IT consulting specific context : relationship continuance intention as the dependent construct while expertise, service performance, reputation, relationship satisfaction and value similarity as antecedents of cognitive and affective trust. 145 data points were collected through a survey of IT service client project managers retrospectively asking their experience with IT consultants. Findings suggest that cognitive trust is associated with perceived level of expertise and service performance while affective trust with relationship satisfaction and value similarity, respectively. Interestingly, the paths from reputation are found to be statistically insignificant towards both dimensions of trust, indicating IT service context would be more practically outcome oriented than any other professional service context. Also, cognitive trust seems to maintain stronger influence on relationship continuance intention as anticipated. Implications and limitations are discussed at the end.

  • Electrophoretic analysis was carried out to elucidate genetic relationships of four Korean scallops, Patinopecten yessoensis, chlamys ferreri ferreri, Chlamys swifti and Amusium japonicum japonicum, and of a Chinese population of C. ferreri ferreri purchased form a market. Glucose phosphate isomerase banding pattern was highly varied among eight loci. Three populations of C. ferreri ferreri were more closely clustered in a dendrogram within the range of Nei's genetic similarity values of 0.730-0.830. P. yessoenensis and Chlamys swifti were clustered with genetic similarity value of 0.647. These two clusters were lineated at the value of 0.598. A. japonicum japonicum was clustered with other three species at value of 0.541.

  • Semantic similarity between words can be applied in many fields including computational linguistics, artificial intelligence, and information retrieval. In this paper, we present weighted method for measuring a semantic similarity between words in a document. This method uses edge distance and depth of WordNet. The method calculates a semantic similarity between words on the basis of document information. Document information uses word term frequencies(TF) and word concept frequencies(CF). Each word weight value is calculated by TF and CF in the document. The method includes the edge distance between words, the depth of subsumer, and the word weight in the document. We compared out scheme with the other method by experiments. As the result, the proposed method outperforms other similarity measures. In the document, the word weight value is calculated by the proposed method. Other methods which based simple shortest distance or depth had difficult to represent the information or merge informations. This paper considered shortest distance, depth and information of words in the document, and also improved the performance.

  • Measuring similarity in collaborative filtering-based recommender systems greatly affects system performance. This is because items are recommended from other similar users. In order to overcome the biggest problem of traditional similarity measures, i.e., data sparsity problem, this study suggests a new similarity measure that is the optimal combination of previous similarity and the value reflecting the number of co-rated items. We conducted experiments with various conditions to evaluate performance of the proposed measure. As a result, the proposed measure yielded much better performance than previous ones in terms of prediction qualities, specifically the maximum of about 7% improvement over the traditional Pearson correlation and about 4% over the cosine similarity.

  • In the previous researches, tree comparison methods are almost studied in comparing weighted or labeled tree(decorated tree). But in this paper, we propose a tree comparison and similarity evaluation algorithm can be applied to comparison of two normal trees. The algorithm converts two trees into node string using unparser, evaluates similarity and finally return similarity value from 0.0 to 1.0. In the experiment part of this paper, we visually presented matched nodes and unmatched nodes between two trees. By using this tree similarity algorithm, we can not only evaluate similarity between two specific programs or documents but also detect duplicated code.

  • Taking account of the structural variation on species composition according to the different topographic positions and aspects, the forest community attributes such as species composition, species diversity index, and similarity coefficient were comparatively analyzed for the three topographic positions and the four aspects in the natural deciduous forest of Mt. Gari area. The results are as follows 1. The most dominant species in the overstory were Quercus mongolica in the mid-slope, the ridge, and all aspects areas, however, the stands of the topographic positions were less similar than the stands of the aspects in species composition, because of the appearance of the specific domonant species such as Juglans mandshurica in the valley area and Pinus densiflora in the ridge area. 2. Among the three topographic positions, the mid-slope area had greatest species diversity index in overstory, but the index of the valley had greater value than those of mid-slope and ridge in mid-story and understory. The north-east area among the aspects had greatest the index in all canopy layers. However, The stands of the aspects showed more smaller variation than the stands of the topographic positions. 3. The ridge area showed greatest similarity coefficient value with the mid-slope area, but showed least similarity coefficient value with the valley. However, similarity coefficient among the topographic positions had much smaller value than similarity coefficient among the aspects.
