  • Finite element computations were carried out to study the indentation by rigid cone with half-angle of $70.3^{\circ}$ for 72 different combinations of elasto-plastic properties that cover the wide range of mechanical parameters of common engineering solid materials. The dimensional analysis and representative strain concept were used in the analysis. It was shown that for the same representative strain value, the loading curvature C can be formulated under two different forms, which are based on two alternative dimensionless functions. The present study's one is simpler than the other previously found by other authors using the similar approach. For a wide range of material's parameters, the hardness-modulus ratio should be a parabolic function of ${\sigma}E$, rather than a power law function earlier proposed.

  • In order to investigate the influences of process parameters on the shape of lead frame, experimental study has been carried out. In the experiment, dimensional accuracy of the die sets, measurement accuracy has been managed carefully enough to simulate actual lead frame blanking process. With the blanking of square-shaped specimen, the effects of clearance, strip holding pressure and bridge width on the shape of blanked profile have been investigated. Experimental results show that the burnish ratio is increased as the clearance decreases. the strip holding pressure increases, and bridge width increases. Although the results seems to be similar to the ordinary blanking, the lead frame blanking shows a subtle different characteristics to the ordinary blanking due to the narrow bridge width.

  • The objective of this study is to propose the FE model for mechanical clinched joint using cohesive zone model to analyze its failure behavior under impact loading. Cohesive zone model (CZM) is two-parameter failure criteria approach, which could describe the failure behavior of joint using critical stress and fracture toughness. In this study, the relationship between failure behavior of mechanical clinched joint and fracture parameters is investigated by FE analysis with CZM. Using this relationship, the critical stress and fracture toughness for tensile and shear mode are determined by H-type tensile test and lap shear test, which were made of 5052 aluminum alloy. The fracture parameters were applied to the tophat impact test to evaluate the crashworthiness. Compared penetration depth and energy absorption at the point where 50% of total displacement in result of FE analysis and experiment test for impact test, those has shown similar crashworthiness.

  • In general, hot stamped component is trimmed by costly and time consuming laser cutting when the material strength is over 1,500MPa. The aim of this work was to demonstrate that the trimming die life is improved and the trimming load is decreased by lowering the strength of the region to be trimmed. The model employed in this study was a hat shape, similar to the cross section of many hot stamped products. FE-analysis of hot stamping process was performed to evaluate the effect of tool shape on cooling rate at the area to be trimmed. The best tool shape was thus identified, which created slower cooling and lower hardness at the region to be trimmed. The wear at the cutting tool edge was also reduced.

  • Nickel base brazes containing boron and silicon as melting point depressants are used extensively in the joining and repair of hot-section components in next generation nuclear reactor and aero-engine. Therefore, the present study has investigated the preliminary applicability of nickel based alloying nano powders. Nano Ni-based alloying powders synthesized by Pulsed Wire Evaporation (PWE) method. It's powder morphology and phase transformation temperature were analyzed by scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, and differential scanning calorimeter(DSC). The powder particle size was approximately 10${\sim}$100nm and exhibits a quite even equiaxed shape. The results of DSC measurement show that both the nano Inconel 625 nano powder and Inconel 718 nano powder presents similar liquidus temperatures approximately $1373^{\circ}C$ and $1380^{\circ}C$ respectively.

  • Although Magnetic Pulse Welding(MPW) is not a recently developed technique, it has gained the attention of the automotive industry. MPW has become an accepted welding process because it enables the joining of similar, and dissimilar materials, with a very short cycle time, without the need for filler metal and gases. In this study, the effect of the stand-off distance on the weld strength has been investigated. The compressive strength of the MPW joints was evaluated using UTM. The interface of weld, IMC composition and morpology were studied by SEM and EDS. It was concluded that the stand-off distance and the voltage are the main parameters influencing the strength of weld. In case of too high stand-off distance, it influenced harmful effect because of the resistance of deformation.

  • Fluid model based numerical simulation was carried out for an inductively coupled plasma assisted sputter deposition system. Power absorption, electron temperature and density distribution was modeled with drift diffusion approximation. Effect of an electrically conducting substrate was analyzed and showed confined plasma below the substrate. Part of the plasma was leaked around the substrate edge. Comparison between the quasi-neutrality based compact model and Poisson equation resolved model showed more broadened profile in inductively coupled plasma power absorption than quasi-neutrality case, but very similar Ar ion number density profile. Electric potential was calculated to be in the range of 50 V between a Cr rod source and a conductive substrate. A new model including Cr sputtering by Ar+was developed and used in simulating Cr deposition process. Cr was modeled to be ionized by direct electron impact and showed narrower distribution than Ar ions.

  • Asian Americans is a minority population contributing approximately 4% to the total population of the United States, however it is one of the fastest growing populations. Although Asian Americans as a group have socioeconomic profiles that are similar to white Americans, significant variations exists within and across Asian ethnic groups. The top ten leading causes of death for Asian Americans includes cancer, heart diseases, stroke, unintentional injuries, diabetes, influenza and pneumonia, chronic lower respiratory disease, suicide, nephritis, and septicemia. The prevalence of obesity is lower among Asian Americans, however this should be taken with considerations specific to Asians. High salt and low calcium consumption seem to be dietary risk factors for Asian Americans, although dietary patterns are changing with acculturation. Factors affecting dietary patterns are discussed in this paper. A proactive nutrition education approach for Asian Americans should be promoting maintaining 'healthy' aspects of ethnic diets and adopting 'healthy' American diets. Collaboration with nutrition educators in Asian countries would be helpful to overcome limited resources available for researching and developing nutrition education messages and materials for Asian Americans. • Background and Objectives:Laryngeal hyperkinetic movements of stuttering patients is similar to that of adductor spasmodic dysphonia. There has been studies on implementing botulinium toxin injections to treat stuttering. However, the opinions on the bouolinium toxin injection's effects on stuttering patients vary. In this study authors aim to figure out when the botulinium toxin injection improves stuttering patients. Materials and Methods:Stuttering patients who could receive botulinium toxin injection participated in this study. Age differences, gender differences, electroglottogrphic test, aerodynamic test in botulinium toxin injection treatment of stuttering were analyzed. Results:The botulinium toxin injection had statistically significant impact on patients who showed low mean air flow rate during aerodynamic study. Conclusion:The botulinium toxin injection could reduce stuttering of patients with low mean air flow rate in aerodynamic study.

  • The dietary carbohydrates are mainly digested and adsorbed at small intestine. We developed a new food additive as an egg yolk antibody(1gY) against maltase, sucrase and sodium dependent g1ucose cotransporter(SGLT) for the regulation of blood glucose level and weight control. The maltase, sucrase and SGLT were purified from porcine small intestine which is very similar to that of human in physiological characteristics. The purification step contained an ultracentrifugation, ion exchange chromatography and hydrophobic chromatography. The hens were immunized by purified protein and the IgY activities against immunized antigens were determined. This antibody obtained from the immunized hen's egg yolks directly inhibited the activities of maltase and sucrase in vitro. And the IgY delayed and decreased the increment of blood g1ucose level after administration of maltose, sucrose and glucose in rat about 30 to 60%. The results of this study suggest that the IgY inhibiting the carbohydrate digestion could be used as functional food materials for weight control and regulation of blood glucose level in diabetes.
