In this paper, the u-Service system that is based on location-aware technology is designed for a silver town. It provides services such as emergency call, intelligent elevator operation, and hands-free door access based on the location of the residents with personal device as called smart tag. It can also be applied to other service areas such as the location-aware u-Service for Hospital, high-rising complex building, APT, etc.
The purpose of this research is to example the general trend of the service environment evaluation of the silver town and classify based on the service environment evaluation to suggest a effective method and alternatives fur development companies. The survey population of this study focused on 40s and 50s' middle aged both genders living in the Seoul and national capital region, we used random sampling method. The analytical methods used in this study were frequency, mean, standard deviation, factor analysis, Chi-Squae analysis, ANOVA, cluster Analysis, post-hoc estimation (Duncan test), To verify the reliability of each measure, Cronbach's alpha coefficient was used. As a result of classifying the environment evaluation elements, it was classified into 5 groups for the differentiating strategy on each group. The groups are: life support service type, medical and health support service type, cultural support service type, indifference type, and food support service type.
The aged population increasing rapidly, the population rate of over 65 years old was over 7.5% in 2000 in Korea and it means that Korea is aging society. Increasing participation of woman in public affairs, becoming a nuclear family and increasing old aged people who want to stand alone brought about more the old households. But the aged welfare accommodation are still insufficient and more facilities accommodating the aged should be built. 80.5% of people according to poll by the Ministry of Health and Welfare responded the support of the aged is a serious problem in Korea. This result indicates the reality that the system for the aged are unsatisfied. Although these situations made a new concept of 'silver-town' of the welfare facility for the aged, it is under a transition in the aspect of the social system and the architectural aspect as well. This study will select good examples among facilities in the metropolitan area, analysis space and propose resonable program.
This research is designed to study the residence environment of the elderly residing in three different types of residence - the local community, silver towns and nursing homes and compare their level of social support and life satisfaction of the residents. The subjects of the study was those aged 65 and older who live single and couple 68 residing in the local community, 32 in silver town and 32 in nursing homes. The result of analysis is as follows; 1) the residence environment is different in the three types of residence in terms of number of children, living with a spouse, subjective economic status, and participation in group activities; 2) as for social support, emotional support is the highest among the elderly residing in the local community and declines among those in silver town and the lowest in nursing homes, which suggests that the local community still maintain the support system for the elderly, however it declines in silver town and drop further in nursing homes. But in terms of instrumental support, there is no meaningful difference in the three types of residence. The result shows that the elderly residing in nursing homes are supported by systematic medical and residence service which make up for instrumental support Similar to those in the local community and silver town; 3) life satisfaction is the highest among those residing in nursing homes, however there was little meaningful difference. The result means quality of living is similar among three different types of residence. What is interesting is those living in nursing homes has similar level of life satisfaction despite their lowest emotional support.

Based on the behavioral and visual needs of middle-aged and older people, a design method was proposed to strengthen the visual connection in space. In terms of visual experience, the lighting, colors, and materials of the environment are studied. Through a combination of theory and research and experiments, it is concluded that the elderly prefer plants with warm colors, high brightness colors, and geometric patterns. The design principle and design method of the visual experience in the Silver Town space are summarized.

With the advancement of the industry such as information technology, residential facilities has been consistently achieved high standard. Ubiquitous system has been introduced in apartments nowadays, and it will be general facilities in the near future. However elderly people is not generally accustomed to ubiquitous or internet environment, so degree of ubiquitous system usage is able to be less than young people. This study aims to grasp the relative importance of ubiquitous environment, and offer materials to realize residential environment's improvement of silver towns under investigation through a questionnaire survey. Skin recognition system was most preferred among various functions. This study discusses spatial distribution of the silver towns in the Seoul metropolitan area and investigates how the residents recognize their silver towns through in-depth interviews. Nowadays there are many elders who prefer to live in urban downtown or suburb areas which can be connected with the places of their pre-retirement lives. Therefore, the silver towns in the Seoul metropolitan area have been increasing. The facilities are mainly located in northern part of Seoul and southern part of Gyeonggi province near the network of major express roads. Location and accessibility are more important than any other factors when the elderly contemplate moving into silver town. Silver town residents are likely to have meaningful times and positive identities by communicating with friends there. The elders aged 80 years or older living in silver towns think the silver towns as their home while 'young old' people complain their limited rights of decision making and they consider additional move.

The purpose of this study is to suggest the improvement directions and conditions of spacial composition according to location style of silver towns. The spacial composition of silver town used in 3 cases are analyzed according to their location(the urban type, the sub-urban type and the resort type). The points of analysis are focused on the necessary spaces and selectable spaces related to location of silver towns. In conclusion, the urban and sub-urban silver towns should have the necessary spaces and selectable spaces through analysis of the spaces in healthcare facilities near at hand. The resort silver towns should be planned to harmony the functional spaces with building shapes because they consist of various spaces.
