This report was prepared to check silk reelalility and its quality when the cocoon was cooked in nonpermeative condition after trotted with some chemical solution. The obtained results were as followings. 1. A new chemical, Serisol, was developed by the author to help silk reelability 2. The chemical cooking method showed 0.4% increase of silk yield more than the normal silk reeling method. 3. The chemical conducted good cocoon cooking without permeative process. 4. This method showed better cleanness and neatness than the normal one. 5. This method did not damage the silk quality because of use Serisol. 6. The proper dilution of Serisol was found as 2000 times for it.
The results of investigation and management analysis for the silk filatures in Korea until 1968 are evaluated as followings. (1) The average cocoon purchasing amount for a filature was found as 10,800kg and they are processed 105kg per man on the cocoon assorting process, 8,683kg per day during the drying process of which 42 percent are dried with low temperature drying system. (2) The average cocoon cooking capacity is 50 g, cocoon per minute, but the cooking capacity per man is smaller in case of larger factory. (3) The silk production capacity per month per a filature is 6,000kg and the amount gets smaller in case of larger factory. (4) The employee cost per one kg of raw silk production was found as high in smaller factory and it was found that 200~300 sets size was the optimum capacity for operation. (5) In case of multiends silk reeling machine, the employee cost for the silk reeling process acts as the most peculier factor among six different cocoon processes and it is reached to conclued to deduct the number of employees for this process in order to deduct the production cost. (6) The correlation coefficients between cost factors and total labour cost was found as 46 percent, therefore the rest (54%) will be the production cost other than labour cost.
This study was carried out investigate the characteristics of Habutae and Chiffon woven with silk and polyester(S/P) compound yarn. The S/P compound yarn could be produced by the automatic reeling machine with attachment of air jetting device, polyester yarn guider and tension control apparatus. The surface structure, tensile property and dyeing fastness of S/P compound fabric were examined for the fabric properties. Electron microscopy revealed that most part of S/P compound yarn was well interlaced and some silk part of compound yarn were hidden by polyester on an examination of surface of chiffon fabric. By the one bath and two step dyeing of disperse and acidic dyes, the colour fastness of S/P compound fabrics were 4 grade above. The tenacity and initial modulus of the finished S/P compound fabric were lower than those of grey and degummed fabrics, but reversed in elongation.

Three new Multi ${\times}$ Bi combinations M.Con.4 ${\times}$ (SK6 ${\times}$ SK7), M.Con.4 ${\times}$ NB4D2 and Nistari ${\times}$ (SK6 ${\times}$ SK7) were studied in five seasons i.e. during the period of $18^{th}$ June - $12^{th}$ July, $30^{th}$ August - $23^{rd}$ September, $3^{rd}$ November - $2^{nd}$ December, $29^{th}$ January- $2^{nd}$ March and $30^{th}$ March-$25^{th}$ April with one control Nistari ${\times}$ NB4D2 considering nine reeling characteristics along with shell percent and cocoon yield per 100 disease free layings (DFLs) to establish the seasonal effect on all the parameters. Results reveal that all the characters performed well in November-December. Highest yield per 100 DFLs was recorded during November-December in all combinations showing >60 kg yield. Higher correlation of yield/100 DFLs with filament length, non-breakable filament length, denier, raw silk percent, reelability percent and recovery percent was recorded in all combinations of Multi ${\times}$ Bi considered in this study. Variability observed among four combinations indicates the effect of different temperature and humidity of different seasons on expression of different traits. The results indicate that there is significant relationship of raw silk percent with reelability percent, recovery percent and evenness. Reelability percent showed higher correlation with recovery percent. It was observed that neatness was positively correlated with evenness. The overall performance of the newly evolved combinations with regard to productivity and reeling characteristics is discussed emphasizing their utilization at commercial level.
Silk fabrics are widely used as high quality cloth, interior, quilting and bedding materials because of having excellent touch, drape, resilience and low specific gravity characteristics. But, many waste silk materials are produced during the reeling, spinning, weaving, dyeing and finishing processes. From this fact, the recycle of waste silks is interested in studying for the application of industrial textile materials such as filter, oil absorbent and wound protector. Thus, this research has surveyed the decolorizing and carding characteristics in order to recycle the colored waste silk materials. As the results, the carding condition of waste silk fabrics was optimized with different fiber lengths and curding passage. In addition, the fiber failure mechanism from the wasted silk microdamage caused by carding process was investigated. Also it was found that longitudinal and transverse cracks, abrasion and pilling were formed on the surface of wasted silk fibers.
The features of waste water from by-product silk treatment of silk reeling process were investigated and the lipid extracted from waste water was analysed. The COD of waste water from by-product silk treatment was at the level of 605 mgO/$\ell$ Total Dissolved Solid Particles 2,335mg/$\ell$and Total Suspended Solid Particles 2,123mg/$\ell$. The lipid extracted from the waste water from by-product silk treatment was composed of triglyceride 76.8%, free fatty acids 12.5%, diglyceride 5.7% and free sterol 5.0%. In fatty acid composition of lipid, the content of loeic acid, linoleic and linolenic acid was 64.93%, whereas that of palmitic acid was 29.39% and stearic acid 4.93%.

In order to study the feasibility of utilizing bivoltine foundation cross (FC2) males of the silkworm as male components with Pure Mysore (PM), six foundation crosses viz,CSR2 x CSR27, CSR27 x CSR2, CSR27 x CSR50, CSR50 x CSR27, CSR2 x CSR50 and CSR50 x CSR2 along with CSR2 pure breed were assessed for performance of parental crop, grainage, rearing and reeling performance. The foundation crosses exhibited better performance than CSR2 as a parental crop and male component which resulted in higher egg recovery. Though there was not much difference between PM crossed with FC2 and CSR2 males pertaining to important bioassay parameters, PM x CSR2 exhibited superiority in reeling traits particularly with reelability and raw silk %. This study reveals that FC2 seed cocoons can be utilized during exigency when there is a dearth for CSR2 seed cocoons but not regularly.

Natural nonwoven silk fabric has attracted researchers' attention owing to its unique properties as a biomaterial. It is fabricated by reeling, wetting, and hot pressing natural silk filament from silkworm cocoons. In this study, silkworm cocoons were immersed in water at different temperatures for various durations to examine the effects of wet treatment on their crystallinity and morphology. As the treatment temperature and time increased, the cocoon's silk filament separation became more evident, and fibroin strands were observed in it. The crystallinity indexes of the silkworm cocoons increased until a treatment time of 2 h and remained constant thereafter. The increase in the crystallinity index using wet treatment was enhanced by increasing the treatment temperature. Although the weight loss of the silkworm cocoon was insignificant until 40℃, it was appreciable above this temperature, and the degree of weight loss constantly increased with increases in the treatment temperature and time.
This experiment was conducted to know the effects of abnormal cocoons on the silk quality during the silk reeling process. The results obtained are summarized as follows: 1. The length, the width, the weight, the layer weight, and the layer ratio of abnormal cocoons are in every case 0.83∼4.65% less than those of normal cocoons. 2. The thickness of the abnormal cocoon layer is at)out 20.62∼22.4% less than that of the normal cocoon. 3. The sericin solubility of tile abnormal cocoon layer is about 11.75∼30% more than that of the normal cocoon layer. 4. The degumming ratio of the abnormal cocoon layer is about 6.51∼9.32% more than that of the normal cocoon layer. 5. The length of a have, the weight of a tave and percentage of raw silk yield of the abnormal cocoon are decreased 9.43%, 8.53% and 6.72% each as compared with those of the normal cocoon. 6. The percentage of reelability of abnormal cocoons is decreased 9.58% as compared with that of normal cocoons. 7. The neatness of abnormal cocoons is 3 per cent lower than that of normal cocoons. 8. In the cleanness test of abnormal cocoons, the number of split ends i9 about 1.5∼3.8 times as much as that of normal cocoons. Especially cleanness of abnormal cocoons is 16,3 per cent lower than that of normal cocoons. 9. The number of non-reelable cocoons of abnormal cocoons is increased 1.4∼5.5 times as much as that of normal cocoons. In abnormal cocoon, the number of knot which resulted in the breaking of silk end is increased 1.9∼3.5 times as much as that in normal cocoon.
This study was carried out to elucidate the effective of some swelling agents on the soaking treatment of raw silk. The swelling of raw silk is commonly practiced by soaking in warm water, However, it is not enough to weaving of raw silk. Therefore, the combination of some chemical agents were tested to improve the swelling ratio of raw silk. The pretreatment of raw silk in 0.4N sodium carbonate aqueous solution before soaking in the mixed solution of Emulon 1 g/l, Emanol 0.5 g/l and 0.04N sodium silicate increased the swelling ratio by 57%, compared to the nontreatment. In SEM observation, the surface of raw silk soaked in swelling agents was swollen and smoothed.
