  • The present study addressed the efficacy of nanosized silica-silver for controlling plant pathogenic microorganisms. The nanosized silica-silver consisted of nano-silver combined with silica molecules and water soluble polymer, prepared by exposing a solution including silver salt, silicate and water soluble polymer to radioactive rays. The nanosized silica-silver showed antifungal activity against the tested phytopathogenic fungi at 3.0 ppm with varied degrees. In contrast, a number of beneficial bacteria or plant pathogenic bacteria were not significantly affected at 10 ppm level but completely inhibited by 100 ppm of nanosized silicasilver. Among the tested plant pathogenic fungi, the new product effectively controlled powdery mildews of pumpkin at 0.3 ppm in both field and greenhouse tests. The pathogens disappeared from the infected leaves 3 days after spray and the plants remained healthy thereafter. Our results suggested that the product developed in this study was effective in controlling various plant fungal diseases.

  • To utilize the alkaline protease produced by Halomonas sp. ES-10 as an enzyme detergent, the crude enzyme was obtained by methanol precipitation and lyophilization. And it was processed to coated enzyme. The best mixing ratio of components such as coated enzyme, builders, actives, fillers and adjuvants on detergency was examined, and temperature and pH influencing detergency were also tested. Detergency test 0.15% detergent solution was carried out on EMPA test cloth #116 with shaking(90 rpm) for 10 min after 30 min of pretreatment. The detergent which contained coated-enzyme 1%, Zeolite 4A 20%, Tween 80 1. 5%, sodium borate 30%, sodium meta silicate 7.5% and water 40% showed about 90% of washing efficiency at 40$\circ $C and pH 10.0.

  • Mg alloys have been developed for automobile and mobile equipments because of their low density of $1.7g/cm^3$. One of the main problems of Mg alloys is their poor corrosion resistance which has limited their wide applications. Plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO) method is one of the promising surface treatment methods for Mg alloys. In this presentation, experimental data about the effects of solution composition and form of current are presented and discussed in view of dielectric breakdown and reformation of PEO films The role of various anions of phosphate, silicate, fluoride, carbonate and hydroxide ions is discussed in view of film breakdown and reformation of PEO films.

  • Stomatal frequency and size of rice plant grown in the different silicon levels of the culture solution in phytotron were observed on both side of the 7th leaf blade. By the application of silicate, stomatal frequency and rates of stoma cell area to the leaf area were remarkably reduced in Milyang 23. It could be considered as favorable characteristics which might be reduced the transpira-tion rate from leaf surface of rice plant besides presence of cuticle-silica double layer in leaf surface.

  • A typical Mold method is to form a gate electrode, a gate oxide, and emitter tip after fabrication of mold shape using wet-etching of Si substrate. In this study, however, new Mold method using a side wall space structure is used in order to make sharper emitter tip with a gate electrode. Using LPCVD(low pressure chemical vapor deposition), a gate oxide and electrode layer are formed on a Si substrate, and then BPSG(Boro phospher silicate glass) thin film is deposited. After, the BPSG thin film is flowed into a mold as high temperature in order to form a sharp mold structure. Next TiN thin film is deposited as a emitter tip substance. The unfinished device with a glass substrate is bonded by anodic bonding techniques to transfer the emitters to a glass substrate, and Si substrate is etched using KOH-deionized water solution. Finally, we made sharp field emitter array with gate electrode on the glass substrate.

  • This paper focused on development of geopolymer for wood wool ceramic board. Geopolymer can substitude ordinary portland cement and its accelerator of wood wool cement board as inorganic polymer. In this study, what we would obtain geopolymer's properties such as initial setting time(KS L 5108), flow(KS L 5102) and compressive strength of 3days aged(KS L 5105), was less than 1 hour, more than $110\%$, more than 40Mpa. Geopolymer have three essential materials called filler, hardener and geopolymer liquor. So, We applied filler by quartz, hardener by blast furnace slag powder, metakaoline and fly ash, geopolymer liquor by NaOH, KOH and sodium silicate solution. As result of this experiment, what we could obtain best fitted geopolymer's properties such as initial setting time, flow and compressive strength of 3days aged, was 45min, $116\%$ and 43.6Mpa. This result can be applicable to commercial wood wool ceramic board.

  • A nano structured silica aerogel thin film was manufactured from inexpensive sodium silicate (water glass) using an ambient pressure drying method. High purity silicic sol was prepared by passing a water glass solution through an ion exchange resin, and the gel films were prepared on a modified glass substrate via dip coating. The dip coating conditions, such as coating time and solvent, were optimized. The optical and physical properties of the obtained silica aerogel thin film were characterized using a UV-visable spectrometer and a scanning electron microscope.

  • To reduce shrinkage and the possibility of fracture during ambient pressure drying, it is of great importance to increase the strength and stiffness of the wet gels. In this paper is presented the strengthening and stiffening of wet silica gels prepared from sodium silicate (water glass) as well as properties of the corresponding xerogels. By washing gels containing different initial silica contents in water solutions at elevated pH, a maximum in shear modulus of ~4 MPa was obtained. The maximum stiffness enabled xerogels with bulk density of 0.28g/$\textrm{cm}^3$ to be made regardless of silica content and washing conditions. However, by aging the wet gels in a solution providing fresh monomers to the gel network, a shear modulus of 20 MPa was obtained after 27h. By this method monolithic xerogels with a density down to ~0.2g/$\textrm{cm}^3$ was prepared. The results are compared to alkoxide based gels.

  • To consider sulfate resistance of cement pastes and motars for 3 types of portland cements which have different $C_3A$ contents an silicate ratio($C_3S/C_2S$), they were immersed in 5% sodium sulfate solution for 400 days. SEM analysis and ($Ca(OH)_2$ contents of cement pastes, and compressive strength and length change of cement mortars, were performed to investigate the effects of ($C_3$ and ($Ca(OH)_2$ contents. According to the results of this study, low heat portland cement pastes, and compressive strength and length change of cement mortars, were performed to investigate the effects of C3A and ($Ca(OH)_2$ contents. According to the results of this study, low heat portland cement had a good sulfate resistances because of a small quantity of gypsum and ettringite due to less ($Ca(OH)_2$ contents. However, ordinary portland cement had an adverse result. This was also confirmed by SEM analysis.

  • In order to investigate the availability of serpentines occurring in Korea as fertilizer, the dissolving rates of Magnesia and Silicate contents in 0.5N HCl solution after heat treatment of the serpentines, have been studied. It was found that calcination of the serpentines at $700^{\circC$ for 30 min. was the best condition for utilization of serpentines as fertilizer. The weight decrease on calcining has also been discussed from the chemical point of view.
