The hydration at $23^{\circ}C$ between $Ca(OH)_2$ and siliceous materials with various compositions of silica gel and quartz were studied in paste state, and also diatomite was empolyed as another form of silica. The effect of the structural state of silica on the pozzolanic reactivity was investigated by X-ray, DTA, electron microscopy, and chemical analysis. The results obtained were as follows. (1) The molar ratio of $Ca(OH)_2$ to silica gel(C/Sg) being changed in 0.49, 0.81 and 1.22, the free $Ca(OH)_2$ was disappeared within six hours, three days and two weeks respectively and ill-crystallized CSH(I) was formed. However, in the case fo molar ratio of C/Sg=2.45, almost lime was remained uncombinedly after twenty four weeks yet. (2) Though the molar ratio C/Sg of diatomite was 0.71, the hydration was stabilized at three weeks and the result exhibited very peculiar characteristics from silica gel. (3) Pozzolanic reactivity of quartz was negligible, but $\alpha$-cristobalite in diatomite showed appreciable reactivity. (4) The thermal curves showed the exothermic peaks in the range 830 to $930^{\circ}C$ and lower broad peaks at high temperature in the initial steps of hydration, transfered to lower temperature with sharp peaks by proceeding of hydration. (5) The samples containing more silica gel exhibited higher pozzolanic reactivity and martar strength, but the diatomite gave remarkable result for them and they were matched to the strength development rate.
The sol-gel method is the simplest method for synthesizing monodispersed silica particles. The purpose of this study is to synthesize uniform, monodisperse spherical silica nanoparticles using tetraethylorthosilicate (TEOS) as the silica precursor, ethanol, and deionized water in the presence of ammonia as a catalyst. The reaction time and temperature and the concentration of the reactants are controlled to investigate the effect of the reaction parameters on the size of the synthesized particles. The size and morphology of the obtained silica particles are investigated using transmission electron microscopy and particle size analysis. The results show that monodispersed silica particles over a size range of 54-504 nm are successfully synthesized by the sol-gel method without using any additional process. The nanosized silica particles can be synthesized at higher TEOS/$H_2O$ ratios, lower ammonia concentrations, and especially, higher reaction temperatures.
따라서 극저농도의 NDMA 제거효율 평가가 필요하며 그 기초연구로써 호기성/혐기성 조건에서의 분말활성탄, GS(Granular Sludge), MF(Microfiltration), UF(Ultrafiltration)를 이용한 제거효율과 Silica gel(MCM-41, Diatomite, Spherical silica gel)을 이용한 제거효율을 평가하였다.
Two types of polyimide/silica composite films were prepared using sol-gel method through hydrolysis and polycondensation of tetraethoxysilane (TEOS) with the polyamic acid (PAA) and end-capped PAA solution. Samples were characterized by the means of differential thermogravimetry, X-ray diffractometry, scanning electron microscopy, universal test, impedance analyzer, chemical resistance test, etc. All of the PAA/silanol solutions heat-treated at 300$^{\circ}C$ for 6h were transformed to polyimide/silica composites. It has been demonstrated that the properties of polyimide/silica composites were affected by the amount of silica addition and the bend type existed between polyimide and silica.
A subsurface containment system which is constructed by pumping a gelling liquid (Colloidal Silica) into the unsaturated medium is investigated by developing a mathematical model and conducting numerical simulations. The proposed model is verified by comparing experimentally and numerically determined hydraulic conductivities of gel-treated soil columns at different Colloidal Silica (CS) injection volumes. The numerical experiments indicate that an impermeable gel layer is formed within the time period twice the gel-point. At the Same normalized time, the CS solutions with lower NaCl concentrations result ill further migration and poor Performance in plugging the pore space.
Spherical micro silica sol-gel immobilized enzyme beads were prepared in an emulsion system using cyclohexanone and Triton-X 114. The beads were used for the in situ immobilization of transaminase, trypsin, and lipase. Immobilization during the sol to gel phase transition was investigated to determine the effect of the emulsifying solvents, surfactants, and mixing process on the formation of spherical micro sol-gel enzyme beads and their catalytic activity. The different combinations of sol-gel precursors affected both activity and the stability of the enzymes, which suggests that each enzyme has a unique preference for the silica gel matrix dependent upon the characteristics of the precursors. The resulting enzyme-entrapped micronsized beads were characterized and utilized for several enzyme reaction cycles. These results indicated improved stability compared to the conventional crushed form silica sol-gel immobilized enzyme systems.
