The aim of the study was to establish the influence of particle size, chemical and phase composition of fine microspherical high-calcium fly ash (HCFA), as well as superplasticizer content on the strength of cementless composite materials based on 100% HCFA and mixtures of HCFA with Portland cement (PC). For the initial HCFA fractions, the particle size distribution, chemical and quantitative phase composition were determined. The compressive strength of cured composite materials obtained at W/B 0.4 and 0.25 was determined at a curing time of 3-300 days. For cementless materials, it was found that a change in the particle size d90 from 30 ㎛ (fraction 3) to 10 ㎛ (fraction 4) leads to an increase in compressive strength by more than 2 times. Compressive strength increases by at least another 2.2 times with the addition of Melflux 5581F superplasticizer (0.12%) and at W/B 0.25. The HCFA-PC blends were investigated in the range of 60-90% HCFA and the maximum compressive strength was found at 80% HCFA. On the basis of 80% HCFA-20% PC blend, the samples of ultra-high strength (108 and 150 MPa at 28 and 100 days of hardening) were obtained with the addition of 0.3% Melflux 5581F and 5% silica fume. The quantitative phase composition was determined for composite materials with a curing age of 28 days. It has been established that in a sample with ultra-high strength, a more complete transformation of the initial phases of both HCFA and PC occurs as compared to their transformation separately.
Using industrial wastes and construction and demolition (C&D) wastes is potentially advantageous for concrete production in terms of sustainability improvement. In this paper, a sustainable Self-Compacting Concrete (SCC) made with industrial wastes and C&D wastes was proposed by considerably replacing natural counterparts with recycled coarse aggregates (RCAs) and supplementary cementitious materials (SCMs) (i.e., Fly ash (FA), ground granulated blast furnace slag (GGBS) and silica fume (SF)). A total of 12 SCC mixes with various RCAs and different combination SCMs were prepared, which comprise binary, ternary and quaternary mixes. The mechanical properties in terms of compressive strength and static elasticity modulus of recycled aggregates (RA-SCC) mixes were determined and analyzed. Microstructural study was implemented to analyze the reason of improvement on mechanical properties. By means of life cycle assessment (LCA) method, the environmental impacts of RA-SCC with various RCAs and SCMs were quantified, analyzed and compared in the system boundary of "cradle-to-gate". In addition, the comparison of LCA results with respect to mechanical properties was conducted. The results demonstrate that the addition of proposed combination SCMs leads to significant improvement in mechanical properties of quaternary RA-SCC mixes with FA, GGBS and SF. Furthermore, quaternary RA-SCC mixes emit lowest environmental burdens without compromising mechanical properties. Thus, using the combination of FA, GGBS and SF as cement substitution to manufacture RA-SCC significantly improves the sustainability of SCC by minimizing the depletion of cement and non-renewable natural resources.

In order to develop the ultra high strength concrete over 400Mpa at 28 day, Low-heat portland cement, ferro-silicon, silica-fume and steel fiber were mixed and tested under the special autoclave curing conditions. Considering the influence of Ultra high strength concrete. normal concrete is used as a comparison with low water-cement ratio possible Low-heat portland cement. Additionally, as a substitution of aggregates, we analyzed the compressive strength of Ferro Silicon by making the states of mixed and curing conditions differently. In addition, SEM films testified the development of C-S-H hydrates of Type III & Type IV, and tobermolite, zonolite due to the high temperature, high pressure of autoclave curing. Fineness of aggregate, filler and reactive materials in concrete caused 420Mpa compressive strength at 28day successfully.

With the passing of time, exposed concrete structures are affected by a range of environmental, chemical, and physical factors. These factors seep into the concrete and have a deleterious influence compared to the initial performance. The importance of identifying and preventing further performance degradation due to the occurrence of deterioration has been greatly emphasized. In recent years, evaluations of the target life have attracted increasing interest. During the freezing-melting effect, a part of the concrete undergoes swelling and shrinking repeatedly. At these times, chloride ions present in seawater penetrate into the concrete, and accelerate the deterioration due to the corrosion of reinforced bars in the concrete structures. For that reason, concrete structures located onshore with a freezing-melting effect are more prone to this type of deterioration than inland structures. The aim of this study was to develop a high performance mortar mixed with a mineral admixture for the durability properties of concrete structures near sea water. In addition, experimental studies were carried out on the strength and durability of mortar. The mixing ratio of the silica fume and meta kaolin was 3, 7 and 10 %, respectively. Furthermore, the ultra-fine fly ash was mixed at 5, 10, 15, and 20%. The mortar specimens prepared by mixing the admixtures were subjected to a static strength test on the 1st and 28th days of age and degradation acceleration tests, such as the chloride ion penetration resistance test, sulfuric acid resistance test, and salt resistant test, were carried out at 28 days of age. The chloride diffusion coefficient was calculated from a series of rapid chloride penetration tests, and used to estimate the life time against corrosion due to chloride ion penetration according to the KCI, ACI, and FIB codes. The life time of mortar with 10% meta kaolin was the longest with a service life of approximately 470 years according to the KCI code.
The peculiarity pointed out for high strength concrete is the occurrence of spalling during a fire. Recently, there are many efforts such as development of all types of spalling reducing materials and other innovative materials in various fields. Need is now to examine the adequate mixing proportions of these materials. This study intended to derive experimentally and statistically mix proportions that can represent the basic quality requirements as well as the optimal effects on the fire-resistance for 4 types of functional materials that are metakaolin, waste tire chip, polypropylene fiber and steel fiber. Here, the tests were planned through an optimal test method using an orthogonal array table with 4 parameters and 3 levels. The statistical analysis adopted the response surface analysis method. Results verified mutual complementary contribution between the materials when using a combination of the functional materials selected as parameters for the strengthening of the fire-resistance of 80 MPa-class high strength concrete. Besides, the optimal conditions of the fire-resistance strengthening materials derived through response surface analysis were a volumetric replacement of silica fume by 80% of metakaolin, a volumetric replacement of fine aggregates by 3% of tire waste chip, and an addition of 0.2% of the whole volume by polypropylene fiber without mixing of steel fiber. In such cases, the basic characteristics as well as the fire-resistant characteristics of high strength concrete were also satisfied.
Evaluation of chloride penetration is very important, because induced chloride ion causes corrosion in embedded steel. Diffusion coefficient obtained from rapid chloride penetration test is currently used, however this method cannot provide a correct prediction of chloride content since it shows only ion migration velocity in electrical field. Apparent diffusion coefficient of chloride ion based on simple Fick's Law can provide a total chloride penetration magnitude to engineers. This study proposes an analysis technique to predict chloride penetration using apparent diffusion coefficient of chloride ion from neural network (NN) algorithm and time-dependent diffusion phenomena. For this work, thirty mix proportions with the related diffusion coefficients are studied. The components of mix proportions such as w/b ratio, unit content of cement, slag, fly ash, silica fume, and fine/coarse aggregate are selected as neurons, then learning for apparent diffusion coefficient is trained. Considering time-dependent diffusion coefficient based on Fick's Law, the technique for chloride penetration analysis is proposed. The applicability of the technique is verified through test results from short, long term submerged test, and field investigations. The proposed technique can be improved through NN learning-training based on the acquisition of various mix proportions and the related diffusion coefficients of chloride ion.

Recently, researches related to precast modular construction have been actively conducted for nuclear power plant, LNG gas tank, and small-medium PCCV as well as bridges and buildings. In this study, the precast panel cast with steel mesh reinforced mortar (SRM) which is similar reinforced ferrocement was developed for efficient precast construction, construction time reduction, and easy transportation. Mortar mixture with high strength and flowability was obtained from various case studies using silica fume and GGBS. Also, $1,200{\times}600{\times}150mm$ SRM and reinforced concrete (RC) panels were manufactured with reinforcing ratio of 2% and 4%. To verify structural performance of the SRM specimen, the basic material tests, free shrinkage test, and 3-point flexural test with a line loading were carried out. From the test results, it was determined that SRM specimens showed outstanding flexural capacity and ductility. However, the 4% reinforced SRM specimens must consider shear reinforcing to be used as a precast modular member.

The purpose of this study is to examine the potential for reducing the environmental load and $CO_2$ gas when cement is produced by using cement substitutes. These substitutes consisted of blast furnace slag, red mud and silica fume, which were industrial by-products. The most optimum mix was derived when alkali accelerator was added to low carbon inorganic composite mixed with industrial by-product at room temperature. It is determined that hardened properties and the results of compressive strength tests changed based on CaO content, Si/Al, the mixing ratio and the amount of alkali accelerator, curing conditions and W/B. The results of test analysis suggest that the optimum mix of low carbon inorganic composite is CaO content 30%, Si/Al 4, the mixed ratio of alkali accelerator $(NaOH:Na_2SiO_3)$ 50g:50g, the amount of alkali accelerator 100g and W/B 31%. In addition, if contraction is complemented, low carbon inorganic composite with superior performance could be developed.
Since strength and diffusion coefficient of concrete, representative concrete properties that in change with age, the time effect must be considered in the analysis of chloride penetration. In this study, an evaluation of correlation between accelerated diffusion coefficient, apparent diffusion coefficient, and compressive strength in high performance concrete with various mineral admixtures such as ground granulated blast furnace slag, fly ash, and silica fume was performed. For this work, thirty mix proportions were prepared. Accelerated diffusion coefficients at the age of 28, 91, 180, and 270 days were evaluated. For apparent diffusion coefficient, submerging test for 6 months was performed. For evaluation of compressive strength with ages, the compressive strength test was carried out at an age of 7, 28, 91, 180 days. The results of accelerated diffusion coefficient, apparent diffusion coefficient, and strength were compared, and the correlation was analyzed considering time dependency. From this study, linear relationship between accelerated diffusion and apparent diffusion coefficient were obtained regardless of concrete age. The linear relations were also observed in strength-accelerated diffusion coefficient and strength-apparent diffusion coefficient regardless of concrete age.

It is important to increase the strength of binders in order to enhance the strength of concrete. However, when the mineral admixture used for high strength concrete is incorporated individually, its dispersibility decreases due to the phenomenon of compaction, which reduces its fluidity and results in insufficient strength being created. To solve this problem, we can pre-mix each binder in advance to disperse a mineral admixture among binders, which will strengthen the fluidity and strength of concrete. Therefore, this study analyzed the properties of high strength concrete depending on the mix method used, to determine the effect of pre-mix cements ranging from W/B 15 to 35%. It was found that the fluidity of pre-mix increased to a level higher than that of individual mix due to its dispersion and ball bearing effect. The air content was slightly decreased from the result of individual mix due to the micro filler effect, which causes fine particles of silica-fume to fill the voids among cement particles, while the setting time of pre-mix was shorter than that of individual mix, because enhanced dispersion of pre-mix affects hydration heat time. The compressive strength of pre-mix increased due to the phenomenon of compaction of gap structure, and the variation of coefficient decreased by 1.69% on average in strength variation.
