  • In an effort to enhance the quality of feature vector classification and thereby reduce the recognition error rate for the speaker-independent speech recognition, we study the effect of spectral tilt on the Fourier magnitude spectrum en route to the extraction of MFCC. The effect of FIR filtering on the speech signal on the speech recognition is also investigated in parallel. Evaluation of the proposed methods are performed by two independent ways of the Fisher discriminant objective function and speech recognition test by hidden Markov model with fuzzy vector quantization. From the experiments, the recognition error rate is found to show about 10% relative improvements over the conventional method by an appropriate choice of the tilt factor.

  • In this paper, we designed a linear power amplifier considering its delay characteristics fur wideband operation. The power amplifier has the gain of 37 dB and is designed in 3-stage typ with 1W output power. The error amplifier has the gain of 55 dB and is designed in 4-stage typ. And directional coupler and power divider are designed. Vector modulator is used to adjust magnitude and phase of signal. A linear power amplifier, that is assembled with each modules, is designed considering the delay characteristics for 2.11~2.2 GHz. Its C/I3 ratio has been improved by B5 dB for bandwidth of 30 MHz.

  • The objectives of this study were to compare unimanual, symmetrical and reciprocal movement of transportation. Nineteen participants with post-stroke hemiparesis were involved in this study. We used the Fitmeter accelerometer to measure the dependent variables: signal vector magnitude, peak acceleration and peak deceleration. With respect to the hand and arm, intensity of unimanual movement was higher than that of symmetrical movement, and reciprocal movement was greater than that of symmetrical movement. With regard to the trunk, intensity of unimanual movement was lower than that of symmetrical movement, and within bimanual movement, reciprocal movement was greater than that of symmetrical movement. In conclusion, reciprocal movement would facilitate upper extremity movement and decrease the compensatory movement of trunk more than would symmetrical movement.

  • In radio-over-fiber (RoF) systems, nonlinear compensation is very important to meet the error vector magnitude (EVM) requirement of the mobile network standards. In this study, a nonlinear compensation technique based on an artificial neural network (ANN) is proposed for RoF systems. This technique is based on a backpropagation neural network (BPNN) with one hidden layer and three neuron units in this study. The BPNN obtains the inverse response of the system to compensate for nonlinearities. The EVM of the signal is measured by changing the number of neurons and the hidden layers in a RoF system modeled by a measured data. Based on our simulation results, it is concluded that one hidden layer and three neuron units are adequate for the RoF system. Our results showed that the EVMs were improved from 4.027% to 2.605% by using the proposed ANN compensator.

  • We demonstrate a next-generation high-capacity mobile fronthaul based on radio over fiber (RoF) technology, which links between a digital unit and a radio unit supporting two frequency assignments and $2{\times}2$ multiple input, multiple output antennas. To confirm the technical feasibility of a mobile fronthaul, we experimentally investigate its down- and uplink end-to-end performances including the optical and radio frequency (RF) signal path. Frequency-dependent performance deviations, error vector magnitude variations, overall system performance variations caused by optical to electrical conversion, and intermediate frequency to RF conversions are examined. Experimental verifications on multiple LTE uplink signals are performed for the first time. We also demonstrate several commercial mobile Internet services, YouTube video streaming, and file transfers using off-the-shelf mobile devices, through a mobile fronthaul based on RoF.

  • The purpose of this study suggests a personalized algorithm of physical activity energy expenditure prediction through comparison and analysis of individual physical activity. The research for a 3-axial accelerometer sensor has increased the role of physical activity in promoting health and preventing chronic disease has long been established. Estimating algorithm of physical activity energy expenditure was implemented by using a tri-axial accelerometer motion detector of the SVM(Signal Vector Magnitude) of 3-axis(x, y, z). A total of 10 participants(5 males and 5 females aged between 20 and 30 years). The activities protocol consisted of three types on treadmill; participants performed three treadmill activity at three speeds(3, 5, 8 km/h). These activities were repeated four weeks.

  • 본 논문은 EBME(Extended Bilateral Motion Estimation) 알고리듬에서 움직임 벡터들의 방향과 크기를 고려한 알고리듬을 제안하였다.

  • A novel WDM-PON system delivering bidirectional 1.25-Gbps data and broadcasting data is proposed. A subcarrier signal modulates optical carriers of a Fabry-Perot-laser-diode based broadband light source to broadcast to all users. Reflective semiconductor optical amplifiers are used as modulators for the baseband data at both the optical line terminal and the remote optical network unit for a channel. Bit error rate and error vector magnitude were measured to demonstrate the proposed scheme.

  • In this study, we proposed the system that calculates the algorithm with an accelerometer signal and detects the fall shock and it's direction. In order to gather the activity patterns of fall status and attach on the subject's body without consciousness, the device needs to be small. With this aim, it is attached on the right side of subject's waist. With roll and pitch angle which represent the activity of upper body, the fall situation is determined and classified into the posture pattern. The impact is calculated by the vector magnitude of accelerometer signal. And in the case of the elderly keep the same posture after fall, it can distinguish the situation whether they can stand by themselves or not. Our experimental results showed that 95% successful detection rate of fall activity with 10 subjects. For further improvement of our system, it is necessary to include tasks-oriented classifying algorithm to diverse fall conditions.

  • In this paper, a new reliable portable activity monitoring device implemented with the buddhist-style bowing activity and walking step detection algorithm, is presented. In order to monitor the bowing and walking activities, miniaturized 3-axis accelerometer sensor with the sensitivity of 800 mV/g was used. After initial signal conditioning, vector magnitude of accelerometer signals was calculated. Syntactic peak detection method was used in order to feature points. All signal processing algorithms were implemented in ultra-low power microcontroller MSP430 with double precision floating point arithmetic. For evaluation, 19 young man($24.22\pm5.22$ yrs) and woman($22.28\pm2.72$ yrs) were involved. The accuracy of the proposed algorithms were 98.91 %($\pm0.011$) for walking step detection and 98.25 %($\pm0.023$) for buddhist-style bowing activity. Comparing to the commercialized pedometer accuracy, 87.1 %($\pm0.058$), the proposed walking step detection algorithms show more reliable accuracy.
