  • With a simple pulse sequence ($\pi/2$-{gradient, duration T}-acquisition) in solution NMR, detected signal has slowly grown up to percents of the equilibrium magnetization. The source of this unusual resurrection of dephased magnetization after a crushed gradient is cross-correlated effects of radiation damping and the distant dipolar field, which has been demonstrated by a numerical simulation and theoretical analysis.

  • Recently, RFID has become popular in the field of remote sensing applications. Location awareness is one of the most important keys to deploying RFID for advanced object tracking. Generally, multiple reference RF stations or additional sensors are used for the location sensing with RFID, but, particularly in indoor environments, spatial layout and cost problems limit the applicability of those approaches. In this paper, we propose a novel method for location sensing with active RFID systems not requiring the need for reference stations or additional sensors. The system triangulates the position of RF signal source using the signal pattern of the loop antenna connected to the power detector. The power detector consists of a signal strength detector and a signal analysis unit. The signal analysis unit indicates the signal strength and serial number using the signal from the strength detector, and provides the direction of the signal to the application target. We designed three different signal analysis units depending on the threshold type. The developed system can sense the direction to the transponder located over 10 m away within the maximum error of $5^{\circ}$. It falls within a reasonable range in our normal office environment.

  • Recently, small radar has been reduced in size and power consumption to cope with various operating environments. It also requires the development of a small millimeter wave radar with high range resolution to disable the system of target with a single strike. In this paper, we design and implement a signal processor that can be used in small millimeter wave radar. The signal processor for the small millmeter wave radar is designed with a digital IF(Intermediate Frequency) receiver and DFT(Discrete Fourier Transform) module capable of real time FFT operation for miniaturization and low power consumption. Also it was to leverage the FPGA(Field Programmable Gate Array) and DAC(Digital Analog Converter) as a means for correcting the distortion of signals that can occur in the receive path of the small millimeter wave radar to create a RF signal that is used by the system. Finally, we verified the signal processor presented through performance test

  • Atmospheric correction over the ocean part is more important than that over the land because the signal from the ocean is very small about one tenth of that reflected from land. In this study, the Spectral Shape Matching Method (SSMM) developed by Ahn and Shanmugam (2004) is evaluated using Landsat imagery acquired over the highly turbid Saemangeum Coastal Area. The result of SSMM is compared with COST model developed by Chavez (1991 and 1997). In principle, SSMM is simple and easy to implement on any satellite imagery, relying on both field and image properties. To assess the potential use of these methods, several field campaigns were conducted in the Saemangeum coastal area corresponding with Landsat-7 satellite's overpass on 29 May 2005. In-situ data collected from the coastal waters of Saemangeum using optical instruments (ASD field spectroradiometer) consists of ChI, Ap, SS, aooM, F(d). In order to perform SSMM, we use the in-situ water-leaving radiance spectra from clear oceanic waters to estimate the the path radiance from total signal recorded at the top of the atmosphere (TOA), due to the reason that the shape of clear water-leaving radiance spectra is nearly stable than turbid water-leaving radiance spectra. The retrieved water-leaving radiance after subtraction of path signal from TOA signal in this way is compared with that estimated by COST model. The result shows that SSMM enabled retrieval of water-leaving radiance spectra that are consistent with in-situ data obtained from Saemangeum coastal waters. The COST model yielded significantly high errors in these areas.

  • This paper deals with a bearing faults localization technique based on holographic approach by visualizing sound radiated from the faults. The main idea stems from the phenomenon that bearing faults in a moving vehicle generate impulsive sound. To visualize fault signal from the moving vehicle, we can use the moving frame acoustic holography [H.-S. Kwon and Y.-H. Kim, "Moving frame technique for planar acoustic holography," J. Acoust. Soc. Am. 103(4), 1734-1741, 1998]. However, it is not easy to localize faults only by applying the method. This is because the microphone array measures noise (for example, noise from other parts of the vehicle and the wind noise) as well as the fault signal while the vehicle passes by the array. To reduce the effect of noise, we propose two ideas which utilize the characteristics of fault signal. The first one is to average holograms for several frequencies to reduce the random noise. The second one is to apply the partial field decomposition algorithm [K.-U. Nam, Y.-H. Kim, "A partial field decomposition algorithm and its examples for near-field acoustic holography," J. of Acoust. Soc. Am. 116(1), 172-185, 2004] to the moving source, which can separate the fault signal and noise. Basic theory of those methods is introduced and how they can be applied to localize bearing faults is demonstrated. Experimental results via a miniature vehicle showed how well the proposed method finds out the location of source in practice.

  • In this paper, we implement a signal-detecting electric circuit based LED lighting control system which is essential in NUI technology using EPIC converting surrounding earth electric field disturbance signals to electric potential signals. We used signal-detecting electric circuits which was developed to extract individual signal for each EPIC sensor while conventional EPIC-based development equipments provide limited forms of signals. The signals extracted from our developed circuit contributed to better performance as well as flexiblity in processes of feature extracting stage and pattern recognition stage. We designed a system which can control the brightness and on/off of LED lights with four hand gestures in order to justify its applicability to real application systems. We obtained faster pattern classification speed not only by developing an instruction system, but also by using interface control signals.

  • Weak target detection and localization in the presence of loud surface ship noise is a critical problem for matched field processing (MFP) in shallow water. For stationary sources, each signal component of received signal can be separated and interference can be suppressed using eigen space analysis schemes. However, source motion, in realistic cases, causes spreading of signal energies in their subspace. In this case, eigenvalues of target and interfere signal components are mixed and hard to be separated with usual phone space eigenvector decomposition (EVD) approaches. Our technique is based on mode space and utilizes the difference in their physical characteristics of surface and submerged sources. Performing EVD for modal cross spectral density matrix, interference components in the mode amplitude subspace can be classified and eliminated. This technique is demonstrated with synthetic data, and results are discussed.

  • In the field of prosthesis arm control, the pattern classification of the EMG signal is a required basis process and also the estimation of force from collected EMG data is another necessary duty. But unfortunately, what we've got is not real force but an EMG signal which contains the information of force. This is the reason why we estimate the force from the EMG data. In this paper, when we handle the EMG signal to estimate the force, spatial prewhitening process is applied from which the spatial correlation between the channels are removed. And after the orthogonal transformation which is used in the force estimation process, the transformed signal Is inputed into the probabilistic model for pattern classification. To verify the different results of the multiple channels, SNR(signal to noise ratio) function is introduced.

  • On the research field for speech signal, neural network mainly uses for the category classification in speech recognition and applies to signal processing. Accordingly, this paper proposes a noise reduction system using a time-delay neural network, which implements the mapping from the space of speech signal degraded by noise to the space of clean speech signal. It is confirmed that this method is effective for speech degraded not only by white noise but also by colored noise using the noise reduction system, which restores the amplitude component of fast Fourier transform.
