The rapid urbanization in Pakistan is creating a shortage of sustainable construction sites with good soil conditions. Attempts have been made to use rice husk ash (RHA) in concrete industry of Pakistan, however, limited literature is available on its potential to improve local soils. This paper presents an experimental study on engineering properties of low and high plastic cohesive soils blended with 0-20% RHA by dry weight of soil. The decrease in plasticity index and shrinkage ratio indicates a reduction in swell potential of RHA treated cohesive soils which is beneficial for problems related to placing pavements and footings on such soils. It is also observed that the increased formation of pozzolanic products within the pore spaces of soil from physicochemical changes transforms RHA treated soils to a compact mass which decreases both total settlement and rate of settlement. A notable increase in friction angle with increase in RHA up to 16% was also observed in direct shear tests. It is concluded that RHA treatment is a cost-effective and sustainable alternate to deal with problematic local cohesive soils in agro-based developing countries like Pakistan.
The interaction between steel tube and concrete core is the key design considerations for concrete-filled steel tube columns. In a concrete-filled steel tube (CFST) column, the steel tube provides confinement to the concrete core which permits the composite action among the steel tube and the concrete. Due to construction faults and plastic shrinkage of concrete, the debonding separation at the steel-concrete interface weakens the confinement effect, and hence affects the behaviour and bearing capacity of the composite member. This study investigates the axial loading behavior of the concrete filled circular steel tube columns with debonding separation. A three-dimensional nonlinear finite element model of CFST composite columns with introduced debonding gap was developed. The results from the finite element analysis captured successfully the experimental behaviours. The calibrated finite element models were then utilized to assess the influence of concrete strength, steel yield stress and the steel-concrete ratio on the debonding behaviour. The findings indicate a likely significant drop in the load carrying capacity with the increase of the size of the debonding gap. A design formula is proposed to reduce the load carrying capacity with the presence of debonding separation.

This study was carried out to investigate of the biologically active components in germinating Mung bean(Phaseolus radiata L.) and Buckwheat (Fagopyrum esculentum Moench) seeds. During the initial germination, germination ratio of 24 hours pre-soaking Mung bean and Buckwheat seeds were higher about 2∼3% than that of non-soaking. This experiment also was peformed to observe cytotoxic effect of the germinating seeds(germination length : 2, 5, 10mm) extracts against cancer cell lines including human lung carcinoma(Calu-6), human breast adenocarcinoma(MCT-7), human great intestine carcinoma(Caco-2) and human leukemia carcinoma(AML-2/WT). The growth of the cancer cells in medium containing Mung bean and Buckwheat extracts were significantly inhibited degree in proportion to the length of germination seeds, Especially, the results show that a significant shrinkage of Calu-6 cells was observed when the cells were exposed into extract of 10mm germination seeds in germinating Mung bean and Buckwheat seeds.

In this study, the experiment was carried out to investigate and analyze the ready-mixed concrete production of ultra-high strength concrete with mixing strength of $100N/mm^2$ according to types of mineral admixtures. The main experimental variables were water/binder ratio $25.0\%$, water content $160kg/m^3$ and mineral admixtures such as fly ash, silica fume and meta kaolin. According to the test results, the principle conclusions are summarized as follows. 1) even if it secures similar slump, the viscosity appear to difference by mixing condition relatively. 2) The autogeneous shrinkage of ultra-high strength concrete is profitable that use admixture, and heat of hydration is desirable that apply considering countermeasure enough in the advance. 3) The concrete that use SF10+MK10 on 56days could confirm that it is possible that achieve compressive strength more than $100N/mm^2$ under mixing conditions that is appearing by compressive strength $102.7N/mm^2$.

This study is intended to investigate the properties of bleeding reduction of concrete using AE water reducing agent for the type of bleeding reduction with the replacement admixture. According to the results, when the adding ratio of AE water reducing agent for the type of bleeding reduction increases, a range of normal fluidity and aimed air content are satisfied, setting time is faster than that of normal AE water reducing agent. And bleeding amount decreases, bleeding speed is highest between 60 and 90 min, and sinking depth increases drastically in 50 min. When AE oater reducing agent for the type of bleeding reduction is added, compressive strength shows a slight variation by air content, but there is not a large influence by addition of AE water reducing agent for the type of bleeding reduction. Synthetically, it proves that AE water reducing agent for the type of bleeding reduction satisfies aimed air content in the range of normal slump and can reduce only bleeding without quality variation of compressive strength.

Nanoscale Al powder with thin layer of alumina was produced by Wire Electric Explosion (WEE) process. Spark-Plasma Sintering (SPS) was performed for the produced powder to confirm the effectiveness of SPS like so-called 'surface-cleaning effect' and so on. Crystallite size and alumina content of produced powder varied with the ratio of input energy to sublimation energy of Al wire ($e/e_s$): Increase in ($e/e_s$) resulted in the decrease of crystallite size and the increase of alumina content. Shrinkage curve during SPS process showed that the oxide surface layer could not be destroyed near the melting point of Al. It implied that there was not enough or no spark-plasma effect during SPS for Al/Alumina powder.
The aim of this paper is to present the most important issues on the implementation, operation and maintenance of foundation for machines. The article presents the newest solutions both in terms of technology implementation as well as materials used in construction of such structures. Foundations for machines are special building structures used to transfer loads from an operating machine to the subsoil. The purpose of these foundations is not just to transfer loads, but also to reduce vibrations occurring during operation of the machine, i.e. their damping and preventing redistribution to other elements of the building. It should be noted that foundations for machines (particularly foundations for hammers) are the most dynamically loaded building structures. For these reasons, they require precise static and dynamic calculations, accuracy in their implementation and care for them after they have been made. Therefore, the paper in detail present the guidelines regarding: design, construction and maintenance of structures of this type. Furthermore, the most important parameters and characteristics of materials used for the construction of these foundations are described. As a result of the conducted analyzes, it was found that the concrete mix, in foundations for machines, should have a low water/binder ratio. For its execution, it is necessary to use broken aggregates from igneous rocks and binders modified with mineral additives and chemical admixtures. On the other hand, the reinforcement of composites should contain a large amount of structural reinforcement to prevent shrinkage cracks.
Background: There are regional variations in the incidence of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), which means that some regions are more exposed to the risk of COVID-19 than others. Therefore, this study aims to investigate regional variations in the incidence of COVID-19 in Korea and identify risk factors associated with the incidence of COVID-19 using community-level data. Methods: This study was conducted at the districts (si·gun·gu) level in Korea. Data of COVID-19 incidence by districts were collected from the official website of each province. Data was also obtained from the Korean Statistical Information Service and the Community Health Survey; socio-demographic factor, transmission pathway, healthcare resource, and factor in response to COVID-19. Community risk factors that drive the incidence of COVID-19 were selected using a least absolute shrinkage and selection operator regression. Results: As of June 2021, the incidence of COVID-19 differed by more than 80 times between districts. Among the candidate factors, sex ratio, population aged 20-29, local financial independence, population density, diabetes prevalence, and failure to comply with the quarantine rules were significantly associated with COVID-19 incidence. Conclusion: This study suggests setting COVID-19 quarantine policy and allocating resources, considering the community risk factors. Protecting vulnerable groups should be a high priority for these policies.

This study investigates the effect of a grading of aggregate on the properties of concrete. It is a common sense in Korea that the production of coarse aggregate in ready mixed concrete industry excludes particular aggregate size ranged from 5 mm to 13 mm for saving the production cost. This causes a gap grading of the aggregate for concrete, which can lead to the increase of unit water, the development of drying shrinkage-induced crack and the reduction of compressive strength. In this study, conventional aggregate obtained from a ready mixed concrete factory and the aggregate with a modified grading produced in lab. condition were prepared. Results showed that a good grading of aggregate (i.e., the ratio of 5~13 mm and 13~25 mm is 6 to 4) produced in the lab. condition significantly improved the slump and the compressive strength of the concrete.

This study ascertained the possibility of use of sulfur abstracted from waste sulfur as a construction material through modification process and manufacturing high efficiency modification sulfur with superior quality on dispersibility and hydrophilic in normal temperature. Mechanic, behavior and chemical durability of mortar with added modification sulfur. The results of the study are as follows. The fluidity of mortar mixed with modification sulfur and compressive strength decreased as ratio of mixing of them increases. Flexural, tensile and bond strength of the mortar are also improved and shrinkage of it increases. Especially chemical durability of the mortar showed excellent resistance with the increase of ratio of mixing. Therefore this research has confirmed the modification sulfur can be used as a addmixture for cement.
