  • To predict long-term creep life from short-term creep life data, various parametric methods such as Larson-Mille. (L-M), Orr-Sherby-Dorn (O-S-D), Manson-Haferd (M-H) parameters, and a Minimum Commitment Method (MCM) were suggested. A number of the creep data were collected through literature surveys and experimental data produced in KAERI. The polynomial equations for type 316LN SS were obtained by the time-temperature parameters (TTP) and the MCM. Standard error (SE) and standard error of mean (SEM) values were obtained and compared with the each method for various temperatures. The TTP methods showed good creep-life prediction, but the MCM was much superior to the TTP ones at $700^{\circ}C$ and $750^{\circ}C$. It was found that the MCM were lower in the SE values when compared to the TTP methods.

  • A combined thermal and mechanical action in roller compacted concrete (RCC) dam analysis is carried out using a three-dimensional finite element method. In this work a numerical procedure for the simulation of construction process and service life of RCC dams is presented. It takes into account the more relevant features of the behavior of concrete such as hydration, ageing and creep. A viscoelastic model, including ageing effects and thermal dependent properties is adopted for the concrete. The different isothermal temperature influence on creep and elastic modulus is taken into account by the maturity concept, and the influence of the change of temperature on creep is considered by introducing a transient thermal creep term. Crack index is used to assess the risk of occurrence of crack either at short or long term. This study demonstrates that, the increase of the elastic modulus has been accelerated due to the high temperature of hydration at the initial stage, and consequently stresses are increased.

  • Quasi-instanteneously performed creep loading is probably one way to seperate the viscous and the plastic creep from the elastic deformation. For mature concrete no differences seem to exist depending on whether the loading is rapidly applied or not. At early age the plastic deformations probably dominate the deformation. A series of test have been done to measure the quasi-instanteneous deformation in concrete specimens according to loading durations and concrete ages. The present study indicates that even very short-term loading contains creep deformation. As concrete is younger and load duration is longer, the proportion of creep deformation in quasi-instanteneous deformation is increased.

  • The penetration and viscosity tests have been used for the evaluation of the aged asphalt binder performance change. The improved test method has been required because the conventional tests could not evaluate the viscoelastic characteristics and the real behaviour of the aged asphalt binder. The conventional test methods using a different short term aged asphalt binder were tested and the test results were expressed as the penetration index and the residual penetration. The oscillatory and rotational mode tests were performed to find out the rheological characteristics of the short term aged asphalt binder in this study. The test results showed that the change of testing frequency, the speed of the vehicle effects the complex modules and phase angles. The creep compliance and shear viscosity also showed the different test results when the short term aged asphalt binders were tested. The rheological behavior should consider when the pavement design is conducted.

  • In this research, the cracking of tunnel concrete lining was investigated and analyzed through long-term measurement and nonlinear numerical analysis. For one year after the casting of lining, the stresses and strains were measured by the sensors installed in hard rock tunnel lining. The measurements showed that only small stresses which were less than cracking stress occurred in every survey sections regardless of sensor directions. It could be induced that the external load applied to the lining was small or ignorable. Also, it was carried out short-term numerical analysis based on such site condition as ambient temperature, the- degree of overbreak and mold staying period. Long-term numerical analysis based on creep & shrinkage and nonlinear cracking was carried out. The output showed that construction condition and ambient environments could make the lining concrete crack without external loads. The cracks formed in this process does not indicate the structural instability of the tunnel.

  • In general, polymer concrete has more excellent mechanical properties and durability than Portland cement concrete, but very sensitive to heat and has large deformations. In this study, the long-term creep behaviors was predicted by the short-term creep test, and then the characteristic of creep of recycled-PET polymer concrete was defined by material and experimental variables. The error in the predicted long-term creep values is less than 5 percent for all polymer concrete systems. The filler carry out an important role to restrict the creep strains of recycled PET Polymer concrete. The creep strain and specific on using the $CaCO_3$ were less than using fly-ash. The creep increases with an increase in the applied stress, but not proportional the rate of stress increase ratio. The creep behavior of polymer concrete using recycled polyester resin is not a linear viscoelastic behavior.

  • The mechanical and thermal properties of solutions of acorn starch were investigated, to determine the effect of sucrose on the retrogradation. The contents of moisture and amylose of purified acorn starch was 9.35, 27% respectively. From the moecular weight distribution, Mw and Mn of acorn starch were 1,220,432 and 137,201 relatively and the polydispersity of acorn starch was 8.8952. The creep compliance of acorn starch with and without sucrose were decreased with increasing sucrose concentration in the short term. The temperatures of DSC curve of 15% acorn starch solution containg sucrose shifted slightly to higher temperatures with increasing sucrose content. The enthalpy change associated with the gelatinization was increased with increasing sucrose content. After 7 days storage, the creep compliance of acorn starch gel with sucrose were shown higher than acorn starch gel. Regelatinization enthalpy of acorn starch/sucrose/water system was decreased with increasing sucrose content and increased with storage time. In addition, the characteristic temperatures such as onset temperature, peak temperature and conclusion temperature was increased by sucrose addition. Retrogradation ratio decreased with increasing sucrose content, thus sucrose inhibit retrogradation in the long term. Sucrose acts as an antistaling reagents and retatards the retrogradation.

  • Power plant boiler is one of the most important utilities providing steam to turbine in thermal power plant. It is composed of thousands of boiler tubes for high efficient heat transfer. Boiler tube material is used in such high temperature and pressure as $540^{\circ}C$, $170kg/mm^2$. The boiler tube material is needed to resist corrosion damage, creep damage and fatigue damage. 2.25%Cr-1Mo steel is used for conventional boiler tubes. In these days steam temperature and pressure of the power plant became higher for high plant efficiency. So, the material property of boiler tube must be upgraded to meet the plant property. Several boiler tube material was developed to meet such condition. X20CrMoV12.1 steel is also developed in early 1980's and used for superheater and reheater tubes in supercritical boilers. The material has martensitic structure, which is difficult to evaluate the material degradation. Boiler tube material at severe condition was tested to evaluate long term and short term degradation and creep. Through long term and high temperature degradation test, lath structure was decreased and recrystallization has been proceeded by sub-crystal. And in this research the effect of temperature and stress on boiler tube characteristic, for example, deformation by creep was changed rapidly at relatively high temperature and stress because creep was affected easily by temperature and stress.

  • This paper analyzes the influence of the construction process on short- and long-term deflections on a reinforced concrete structure poured on-site by a portable industrialized system. A parametric analysis was carried out by the Finite Elements Method (FEM) that considered: a) type of construction process with reshoring or clearing (partial striking); b) the number of successively shored floors and c) the number of shores used on each floor. All three factors were especially important for the values of short- and long-term deflections, which were highest in the reshoring processes with the lowest number of successively shored floors and the lowest number of shores per floor. Deflections obtained were compared with the limits laid down by ACI 318-14 and as calculated by this code's simplified method. The long-term deflections were seen to be almost double than those obtained by applying the ACI 318-14 code's simplified method and in some cases these deflections were above the established limits. It can thus be concluded that the load history of a building under construction should be taken into account in order to satisfy a structure's in-service conditions and durability.
