  • The most recent, Jeong and Nakabo (1997) described Raja koreana as a new species based on an adult female specimen collected from the southwestern coast of Korean Peninsula. Raja koreana has several unique characters not shared with any other supraspecific taxa of Rajoidei, but it was provisionally included in the genus Raja because of having no information of its clasper. Later, two mature males and a few specimens of the species were collected from near the type locality. Therefore, a new genus should be erected for this species. The new genus is characterized by the followings: Rostral shaft straight, narrow and thick in depth: unsegmented base with filamentous cartilage. Dorsal surface of tail with a row of distinct thorns along midline, patches of distinct thorns anterior to first dorsal fin and between first and second dorsal fins in bathe sexes; most thorns directed anteriorly, and thornlets directed posteriorly. Scapulocoracoid comparatively short and high, rear corner high, without anterior bridge, postventral fenestra expanded. Distal tip of accessory terminal 1 claspser cartilage well separated from the tip of accessory terminal 2 clasper cartilage.

  • In Blu-ray(BD) optical system, as a short laser wavelength of laser diode and thin cover layer thickness of' disc, the proper adjustment of spherical aberration should be performed. Considering thin cover layer' thickness and tolerance variation of disc in BD optical system, spherical aberration in BD format is mort: serious than CDㆍDVD format Especially, in dual-layer disc, to compensate the aberration at each layer, optical component should be moved finely in the way of optical path. In this study, 1 -axis moving actuator was introduced as the method of compensating the spherical aberration, and the mechanism of the system was described. Finally, its effect on optical system will be mentioned.

  • In this paper, it is investigated that noise generation mechanism of a rotary compressor using experimental method. The measurement was carried out for primary parameters which influence noise characteristics. By using STFT(short time fourier transform), noise sources of a rotary compressor were identified and vibrating modes that increase the noise are verified. Also, it was studied that the correlation between operating speed and noise. Main factors that affect the variation of noise level were considered by the comparison of the experimental results. In addition, a dynamic characteristic of crank shaft was studied and the critical speed was analyzed.

  • To prevent the shoot-through phenomena in a PWM inverter, a short dead time is usually provided between a pair of switching transistors in the same leg of the inverter. In this approach, the amount of the dead time is designed to meet the worst case condition of the inverter transistors and the base drive elements. So, in normal cases, relatively large portion of the dead time is unnecessary and it results in an undesirablecurrent waveform distortion and generates ripple torque on the motor shaft. In this paper, a new base drive method to remove the undesirable portion of the dead time is described. The method senses the transistor on/off states to interlock the other transistor of the leg without the external dead time. Also, for the transistors of large current rating, the Darlington drive circuit is combined to the proposed method and is tested to verify the effectiveness. The experimental results of the proposed method are described and compared with those of the conventional dead time method.

  • Salient pole rotor type single phase switched reluctance motor is of simple and rigid structure, short shaft and simple driving circuit. Especially, the output power per unit volume of salient pole rotor structure is comparatively high because the magnetic fluxes of axial and radial direction are simultaneously used. Therefore, this motor will be used at small space and difficult maintenance situations. In this paper, the selecting method of proper pole arc, stator, and rotor dimension of salient pole rotor type single phase SRM is proposed.

  • Motors with HTS wires or bulks have been developing recently. Those are large synchronous motor with HTS wires at the field winding in the rotor, hysteresis and reluctance motors with HTS bulk in the rotor. This paper presents the fabrication and test results of an HTS induction motor. Conventional end rings and short bars were replaced with HTS wires in the motor. Stator of the conventional induction motor was used as the stator of the HTS motor. Rated capacity and rpm at full rotor of the conventional motor were 0.75[kW] and 1,710[rpm]. Two, HTS wires are used in parallel to make the end rings and bars. The critical current of the BSCCO-2223 HTS wire which was used in the bars and end rings were 115[A]. Electrodynamometer was coupled directly to the shaft of the rotor with HTS wires.

  • By developing a computer program for the systematic design of worm gears, the design formulae and tables of AGMA, JGMA, BS and DIN are analized and compared. The computer program can be used on micro-computers. According to the input data of the reduction ratio, the center distance. the driving torque and the material as design parameters, the program calculate the most efficient worm gear dimension. The variation of the design parameters and other empirical coefficients in case of resulting an inadequate design gear dimension can be easily modified throuth the way of interactive method between the user and the monitoring system of computer. A proposal of the standardization of worm gears was made in which a standard module according to the DIN 323 standard series number was applied. For the more exact and effective calculation of the stress concentration and the deformation of gear teeth, a computer program using the boundary element method is also developed. Even the strength of the special gear shape such as Niemann's "Cavex" gear can be calculated in a short CPU-time. The most effort of this study has been layed on the developing a computer program for the correction of a tooth profile and face width which is most important design factor for an exact and wide teeth contacts under loads, especially by great and wide gears. For this purpose were investigated the tooth stiffness, the mesh interferences and the kinematics and the dynamics of gear mesh. The deflection and the deformation of the gear shaft due to the loads acting on gear and shaft were aslo considered. Some examples have shown the sufficient good status of teeth contact in which the correction of the tooth profile and face width were accomplished due to the calculated results.d results.

  • Assessment of uncertainties of loads and resistances is prerequisite for the development of load and resistance factor design (LRFD). Many previous studies related to resistance factor calculations of piles were conducted for short or medium span bridges (span lengths less than 200m) reflecting the live load uncertainty for ordinary span bridges. In this study, by using a revised live load model and its uncertainty for long span bridges (span lengths longer than 200m and shorter than 1500m), resistance factors are recalibrated. For the estimation of nominal pile capacity (both base and shaft capacities), the Imperial College Pile (ICP) design method is used. For clayey and sandy foundation, uncertainty of resistance is assessed based on the ICP database. As long span bridges are typically considered as more important structures than short or medium span bridges, higher target reliability indices are assigned in the reliability analysis. Finally, resistance factors are calculated and proposed for the use of LRFD of driven piles for ordinary span and long span bridges.

  • In this paper, in order to prevent the fall of the drone, a study was conducted to collect vibration data from the motor connected to the propeller of the drone, and to predict the abnormal vibration of the drone using recurrent neural network (RNN) and long short term memory (LSTM). In order to collect the vibration data of the drone, a vibration sensor is attached to the motor connected to the propeller of the drone to collect vibration data on normal, bar damage, rotor damage, and shaft deflection, and abnormal vibration data are collected through LSTM and RNN. The root mean square error (RMSE) value of the vibration prediction result were compared and analyzed. As a result of the comparative simulation, it was confirmed that both the predicted result through RNN and LSTM predicted the abnormal vibration pattern very accurately. However, the vibration predicted by the LSTM was found to be 15.4% lower on average than the vibration predicted by the RNN.

  • This study aims to understand the applied forces and related vibrational characteristics of a tripod joint (TJ), which is mostly used in front-drive-type middle-sized sedans in South Korea. The plunging force (PF) and generated axial force (GAF) are the most influential quantities related to the vibrational characteristics of a driveshaft. To obtain meaningful data, specially designed tests were performed using MTS test sets. The results of direct measurements reveal that higher PF and GAF values appear to worsen the vibrational characteristics of the vehicle. On the other hand, the measured apparent mass is useful for calculating the applied forces for a short driveshaft that has no dynamic vibration absorber. Among diversely controlled samples, it shows that the viscosity and tight fit are very sensitive to shudder vibrations of the vehicle. Therefore, these are good design factors for quality controls in the production line of constant-velocity joints.
