  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the shock attenuation mechanisms while varying the loads in a backpack during drop landing. Ten subjects (age: $22.8{\pm}3.6$, height: $173.5{\pm}4.3$, weight: $70.4{\pm}5.2$) performed drop landing under five varying loads (0, 5kg. 10kg. 20kg. 30kg). By employing two cameras (Sony VX2100) the following kinematic variables (phase time, joint rotational angle and velocity of ankle, knee and hip) were calculated by applying 2D motion analysis. Additional data, i.e. max vertical ground force (VGRF) and acceleration, was acquired by using two AMTI Force plates and a Noraxon Inline Accelerometer Sensor. Through analysing the power spectrum density (PSD), drop landing patterns were classified into four groups and each group was discovered to have a different shock attenuation mechanism. The first pattern that appeared at landing was that the right leg absorbed most of the shock attenuation. The second pattern to appear was that subject quickly transferred the load from the right leg to the left leg as quickly as possible. Thus, this illustrated that two shock attenuation mechanisms occurred during drop landing under varying load conditions.

  • When galaxy clusters interact, the intergalactic gas collides, forming shocks that are characterized by a low sonic Mach number (~3) but a comparatively high Alfvenic Mach number (~30). Such shocks behave differently from the more common astrophysical shocks, which tend to have higher sonic Mach numbers. We wish to determine whether these shocks, despite their low sonic Mach number, are capable of accelerating particles and thereby contributing to the cosmic ray spectrum. Using the PIC-MHD method, which separates the gas into a thermal and a non-thermal component to increase computational efficiency, and relying on existing PIC simulations to determine the rate at which non-thermal particles are injected in the shock, we investigate the evolution of galaxy cluster shocks and their ability to accelerate particles. Depending on the chosen injection fraction of non-thermal particles into the shock, we find that even low-Mach shocks are capable of accelerating particles. However, the interaction between supra-thermal particles and the local magnetic field triggers instabilities and turbulence in the magnetic field. This causes the shock to weaken, which in turn reduces the effectiveness of the supra-thermal particle injection. We investigate how this influences the shock evolution by reducing the particle injection rate and energy and find that a reduction of the particle injection fraction at this stage causes an immediate reduction of both upstream and downstream instabilities. This inhibits particle acceleration. Over time, as the instabilities fade, the shock surface straightens, allowing the shock to recover. Eventually, we would expect this to increase the efficiency of the particle injection and acceleration to previous levels, starting the same series of events in an ongoing cycle of increasing and decreasing particle acceleration.

  • We have carried out IGRINS test observations during its May commissioning run. Our targets were composed of three Luminous Blue Variables (LBVs), one supernova remnant (SNR), and an unidentified stellar source emitting [Fe II] 1.644 um line. In the preliminary results, three LBVs MWC 314, P Cygni, and AFGL 2298 show different characteristics: the spectrum of MWC 314 which is known to be in a binary system clearly shows double-peak structures in hydrogen and iron lines, the P Cygni spectrum reveals the Brackett series of hydrogen emission lines with prominent P-Cygni profiles, and AFGL 2298 likely at its visual minimum phase shows rather different spectrum with relatively weak hydrogen lines. The SNR (G11.2-0.3) was to test the sensitivity of IGRINS for diffuse emission. We successfully detected a dozen H2 emission lines with a velocity width of ~13 km/s, which might indicate a C-shock origin. The unidentified stellar source was one of stellar/compact sources of unknown nature detected in the survey of the Galactic plane in [Fe II] 1.644 um emission line (http://gems0.kasi.re.kr/uwife/). Its spectrum is under investigation. We will present the spectra of test observations and will discuss their scientific significance.

  • Pyrotechnic shock or pyroshock is characterized as a transient vibration phenomenon which shows large acceleration and high frequency range up to 10kHz during the operation of separation devices where explosives are used. During the flight of a launch vehicle, pyroshock is mainly generated at several events such as satellite separation, fairing separation and stage separation. In this paper, wiremesh isolators are introduced and several types of isolators are manufactured for the performance tests. For the investigation of typical characteristics of wiremesh isolators, compressive loading tests are basically performed and pyroshock tests are accomplished to confirm pyroshock isolation ability of each wiremesh isolator by using 4Kg dummy mass.

  • When the vibration of a phantom induced by Extracorporeal Shock Wave Lithotripter (ESWL) was investigated. we found the fact that the Peak frequency in the Power spectrum shifts from high frequency to low frequency as the number of shots increases[2]. The fact was confirmed experimentally by detecting the peak frequency obtained from the vibrations of bronze models[3]. This Paper investigates the experimental results. For the Purpose. we carried out the computer simulation using the finite element method. It is found that the results from the experiments are computer by computer simulation.

  • Most of high energy cosmic rays (CRs) are thought to be produced by diffusive shock acceleration (DSA) at supernova remnants (SNRs) within the Galaxy. Fortunately, nonthermal emissions from CR protons and electrons can provide direct observational evidence for such a model and place strong constraints on the complex nonlinear plasma processes in DSA theory. In this study we calculate the energy spectra of CR protons and electrons in Type Ia SNRs, using time-dependent DSA simulations that incorporate phenomenological models for some wave-particle interactions. We demonstrate that the time-dependent evolution of the self-amplified magnetic fields, Alfv$\acute{e}$nic drift, and escape of the highest energy particles affect the energy spectra of accelerated protons and electrons, and so resulting nonthermal radiation spectrum. Especially, the spectral cutoffs in X-ray and ${\gamma}$-ray emission spectra are regulated by the evolution of the highest energy particles, which are injected at the early phase of SNRs. Thus detailed understandings of nonlinear wave-particle interactions and time-dependent DSA simulations of SNRs are crucial in testing the SNR hypothesis for the origin of Galactic cosmic rays.

  • Electronic equipments and a missile carried by heavy trucks are often subjected to vibration and shock excitation during their transportation. Electronic equipments are so vulnerable to vibration and shock input that it is necessary to know in advance the vibration level of the truck which cause the damage of equipments. Road tests of a heavy truck carrying a canister on different road conditions such as paved road, unpaved road, and washboard are performed and the effect of road conditions on the vibration characteristics are analyzed. Vibration levels were measured at various locations of the truck along the path through which vibration was transmitted. This study reveals that the velocity of the truck as well as the road surface conditions are main factors which affect the vibration levels of the truck. The power spectrum density of the measured vibration signal and the factors affecting the PSD are also analyzed in this paper.

  • Antenna equipment is transported being assembled to moving equipment and often subjected to vibration and shock excitation during transportation. In these circumstances, structural safety of antenna equipment must be secured. Wire rope isolators are assembled between moving equipment and antenna equipment to reduce the level of vibration and shock. In this paper, a isolator that are suitable to the system is selected and dynamic characteristics analysis of driving on antenna equipment is conducted using real system and the result is compared with response analysis. Also modal test of array-antenna pack-assembly is conducted and structural safety of that is secured by reinforcing its structure.

  • Solar type II radio burst is regarded as a signature of coronal shock. However its association with coronal mass ejections (CMEs)-driven shock and/or flare blast waves remains controversial. On December 31 2007, SOHO/LASCO and STEREO/COR observed a CME that occurred on the east limb of the Sun. Meanwhile, two type II bursts were observed sequently by KASI/E-Callisto and the Culgoora radio observatory during the CME apparence time. In this study, we estimate kinematics of the two coronal shocks from dynamic spectrum of the multiple type II bursts and compare with the kinematics of the CME derived from the space observations. An origin of the multiple type II bursts is inspected and discussed briefly.
