Ground test of model Scramjet engine was performed with T4 free-piston shock tunnel at University of Queensland, Australia. Test condition of free stream was Mach 7.6 at 31 km altitude. With this condition, variation effects of fuel equivalence ratio, cavity, cowl setting were investigated. In the results, supersonic combustion or thermal choking was observed depending on the amount of fuel. Cavity and W-shape cowl showed early ignition and enhanced mixing respectively.

Pneumatic cushioning cylinders are commonly employed for vibration and shock control. A mathematical simulation model of a double acting pneumatic cushioning cylinder designed to absorb shock loads is presented which is based on the following assumptions; ideal equation of state isentropic flow through a port conservation of mass polytropic thermodynamics single degree of freedom piston dynamics and energy equivalent linear damping. These differential equation can be solved through numerical integration using the fourth order Runge-Kutta method. An experimental study was conducted to validate the results obtained by the numerical integra-tion technique. Simulated results show good agreement with experimental data. The computer simulation model presented here has been extremely useful not only in understanding the has been extremely useful not only in understanding the basic cushioning but also in evaluating different designs.
Numerical analysis of three-dimensional vicous flow is used to compute the design speed operating line of a transonic axial-flow compressor. The Navier-Stokes equation was solved by an explicit finite-difference numerical scheme and the Baldwin-Lomax turbulence model was applied. A spatially-varying time-step and an implicit residual smoothing were used to improve convergence. Two-stage axial compressor of a turboshaft engine developed KARI was chosen for the analysis. Numerical results show reasonably good agreements with experimental measurements made by KARI. Numerical solutions indicate that there exist a strong shock-boundary layer interaction and a subsequent large flow separation. It is also observed that the shock is moved ahead of the blade passage at near-stall condition.
The response of concrete structures subjected to shock and blast load involves a rapid transient phase, during which material breach may take place. Such an effect could play a crucial role in determining the residual state of the structure and the possible dispersion of the fragments. Modelling of the transient phase response poses various challenges due to the complexities arising from the dynamic behaviour of the materials and the numerical difficulties associated with the evolving material discontinuity and large deformations. Typical modelling approaches include the traditional finite element method in conjunction with an element removal scheme, various meshfree methods such as the SPH, and the mesoscale model. This paper is intended to provide an overview of several alternative approaches and discuss their respective applicability. Representative concrete material models for high pressure and high rate applications are also commented. Several recent application studies are introduced to illustrate the pros and cons of different modelling options.

Model Scramjet engine is tested with T4 free-piston shock tunnel at University of Queensland, Australia. Basically, test condition is fixed as Mach 7.6 at 31 km altitude. With this condition, variation effects of fuel equivalence ratio, cavity, cowl setting and angle of attack were investigated. In the results, supersonic combustion was observed with low and middle fuel equivalence ratio. At high equivalence ratio, thermal choking was occurred due to the intensive reaction. Cavity and W-shape cowl showed early ignition and enhanced mixing respectively.

In this study, we investigated the efficient FE modelling techniques for thermal stress analysis of the exhaust manifold subject to thermo-mechanical cyclic loadings. At first, full engine model was considered to identify the critical locations and their results were compared to failure site shown by the engine bench test. And the equivalent system model was proposed based on the mechanical behavior of the full engine model. The weak areas of both FE models show a good agreement with the experimental crack location. As a result, a simplified modelling methodology was verified to estimate the thermo-mechanical behaviors of the exhaust manifold under thermal shock test condition.

The present paper deals with the extension of AUSMPW+ scheme into two-fluid model for multiphase flow. AUSMPW+ scheme is the improvement of a single-phase AUSM+ scheme by designing pressure-based weighting functions to prevent oscillations near a wall and shock instability after a strong shock. Recently, Kitamura and Liou assessed a family of AUSM-type schemes with two-fluid model governing equations [K. Kitamura and M.-S. Liou, Comparative study of AUSM-Family schemes in compressible multi-phase flow simulations, ICCFD7-3702 (2012)]. It was observed that the direct application of the single-phase AUSMPW+ did not provide satisfactory results for most of numerical test cases, which motivates the current study. It turns out that, by designing pressure-based weighting functions, which play a key role in controlling numerical diffusion for two-fluid model, problems reported in can be overcome. Various numerical experiments validate the proposed modification of AUSMPW+ scheme is accurate and robust to solve multiphase flow within the framework of two-fluid model.
For development of a human body model for electric shock, electroconductive paints with carbon black as a filler material were developed. The characteristics of the volume resistivities of thin films fabricated using the electroconductive paints were investigated as a function of the particle sizes and content of carbon black. With a carbon black particle size over $80\;{\mu}m$, agglomeration of carbon black powders was observed. The volume resistivity of the particles increased as the porosity increased and as the amount of carbon black decreased due to the agglomeration of carbon black powders. With a particle size of $4\;{\mu}m$ and $20\;{\mu}m$, agglomeration of carbon black powders was not observed and their porosities were measured as 0.86% and 1.12% with volume resistivities of $20\;{\Omega}{\cdot}cm$ and $80\;{\Omega}{\cdot}cm$ respectively. A carbon black particle size of less than $20\;{\mu}m$ is considered to be suitable as a type of electric-shock electroconductive paint for a human body model.
Cushioning systems, which are cushion material and its designed configuration, are important to protect fragile items since they act as buffers between the impact force and the fragile product. As cushioning materials, several plastic foams are commonly used in industry. However, the utilization of the plastic material has been causing a solid waste problem and pollution. Thus, as an alternative cushion material to the plastic foams, a corrugated cushion, which is considered environmentally friendly and cheap material, was put into drop tests and its impact shock attenuation was investigated. Flat and free drop data were recorded and compared to the dynamic shock of EPS cushion. In addition, the mathematical model of the shock attenuation of the corrugated cushion was developed. The result showed that the corrugated cushion gave an excellent protection for items that were subjected to the limited number of drops. There was no significant difference of the shock absorbing ability between the EPS and corrugated cushions. Energy density model of cushioning material successfully explained the mechanical behavior and fatigue of the corrugated cushions.

1. When the frame of the experimental apparatus was directly fixed on the platform, result from the spectrum density analysis showed that the generated vibration frequecy of the system was nearly-same as the system's own characteristic vibration frequency, 80Hz, in the case of the forcing vibration frequency was 7.5 to 22.5Hz. The reduction ratio of acceleration by balanced type model compare to non-balanced type one was 26.66 percent. 2. When the frame of experimental apparatus was fixed on the platform with putting a shock absorbing rubber between the frame and the platform, the generated vibration frequency of the system was same as forcing vibration frequency. When either frequency or the amplitude of the forcing vibration was increased, the acceleration ratio was increased too. The average reduction ratio was resulted 44.77 per cent. It was concluded that this method of acceleration measurement(the method using a shock absorbing rubber) was a reaonable method, because actual machine will work under such condition. As the vibration frequency and aptitude were increased, the absolute magnitude of acceleration was increased. 3. unbalanced rotating parts, and unbalanced moment of inertia of links were supposed to be causing factors of residual vibration in spite of using the balanced type oscillating mole drainer. This fact suggested that the attachment of the counter weight on the rotating parts which satisfy the condition mw$.$rw=m0e, was necessary. And also, it was expected that the shock absorbing effect could be improved by putting the shock absorbing materials between the moving parts and their supports.
