Experimental Analyses of Cell Voltages for a Two-cell PEM Stack Under Various Operating Conditions

  • Analyses of performance and behavior of the individual PEM fuel cells (PEMFC) under different operating conditions are of importance optimally to design and efficiently to operate the stack. The paper focuses on experimental analyses of a two-cell stack under different operating conditions, which performance and behavior are measured by the voltage of a cell as well as the stack. Experimental parameters include stoichiometric ratio, temperature of the air supplied under different working stack temperatures and loads. Results showed that the cell voltages are dominantly influenced by the temperature of the air supplied among others. In addition, an inherent difference between the first and the second cell voltage exists because of the tolerances of the cell components and the resulting different over-potentials at different equilibrium states. Furthermore, it is shown that the proton conductivity in the membranes conditioned by the humidity in the cathode channel highly affects the voltage differences of the two cells.

  • The bowl in a ship purifier suffers from high stress and high temperature in a detrimental heavy fuel oil environment. Duplex stainless steel(DSS) is a primary material to withstand this harsh condition. Newly-manufactured STS 329 grade DSS has been evaluated by various mechanical and electrochemical test methods. Eight heat treatment(HT) conditions with different temperature and time were applied to the DSS samples to improve corrosion resistance. Microstructure and polarization test results concluded the optimum HT condition was $1.090^{\circ}C$-60 minutes. Confirmation experiments for applying to a real bowl including stress corrosion cracking test exhibited the reproducibility of the optimum HT condition.

  • Gel electrophoresis of DNA is a well known technique in molecular biology. This technique is simple, rapid to perform, and capable of adequately separating fragments of DNA. A number of mixtures of DNA fragments ("DNA size markers") are frequently employed in a purpose of extrapolating the sizes or the amount of DNA molecules during gel electrophoresis. DNA size markers are constructed by digesting plasmid DNA, bacteriophage DNA, or recombinant DNA molecules with one or more restriction enzymes. However, liquid suspension containing DNA size marker needs to be kept at a low temperature during storage and shipping. In an attempt to maintain the DNA samples at room temperature for extended period of time, lyophilization of DNA with addition of nuclease inhibitor was studied. Gel loading buffer was also added to the lyophilized DNA to provide additional convenience such that DNA size marker was the "ready-to-use" followed by simply reconstituting with distilled water.

오이, 가지, 멜론 및 방울토마토 과실의 수송온도가 모의 수출 및 유통중 품질에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Shipping Temperature on Quality Changes of Cucumber, Eggplant, Melon, and Cherry-tomato Fruit during Simulated Export and Marketing)

  • 본 연구는 과채류의 모의 수출 및 유통과정에서 냉장컨테이너 내부의 온도에 따른 품질변화를 조사하여 적정 수송온도를 구명하고자 실시되었다. 과채류가 수확된 다음 소형냉장컨테이너에 적재되어 다양한 온도조건하에서 4일 동안 보관되었고, 과실의 품질이 수확직후, 저장후 4일째, 상온유통후 4일째로 나누어 분석되었다. 오이의 경우 상온이나 $15^{\circ}C$에서 보관된 것에 비해 상대적으로 낮은 온도인 $13^{\circ}C$$11^{\circ}C$에서 수분손실이 억제되었다. 가용성고형물도 $13^{\circ}C$$11^{\circ}C$에서 상대적으로 낮은 수준을 유지하였다. 가지는 상온, $12^{\circ}C,\;9^{\circ}C,\;6^{\circ}C$에서 수송되었을 때 모든 온도조건에서 수분손실이 급격히 저하되었다. 가지의 품질은 내부육질의 갈변에 의해 크게 좌우되는데 $9^{\circ}C$에서 가장 크게 억제되었으며 $6^{\circ}C$의 경우 저온장해 현상이 발견되었다. 멜론의 경우 최저 온도인 $4^{\circ}C$에서 수분손실이 가장 억제되었으며 가용성고형물 함량도 수확직후의 수준을 오래도록 유지하였다. 방울토마토는 상온, $10^{\circ}C$, $7^{\circ}C$ 온도조건 중에서 상대적으로 낮은 $10^{\circ}C$$7^{\circ}C$에서 대사적 변화가 억제되었으며, 특히 유통 중에 가장 문제시되는 열과현상도 상대적으로 적게 나타났다. 그러나 $10^{\circ}C$의 경우가 $7^{\circ}C$에 비해 가용성고형물 함량이 높은 것으로 나타났다. 전체적인 결과를 종합해 보면 작목별 적정 수송온도 범위는 오이의 경우 $11{\sim}13^{\circ}C$, 가지가 $9^{\circ}C$부근, 멜론이 $4^{\circ}C$, 방울토마토가 $10^{\circ}C$라는 것을 알 수 있었다.

개질 및 노블락형 에폭시수지 차폐재의 장기내열성에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Prolonged Time Heat Resistance of Shielding Materials Based on Modified and Novolac Type Epoxy Resin)

  • 고온 분위기하의 가열시간이 방사성물질의 수송용기 등에 사용하기 위하여 개발한 개질(KNS(Kaeri Neutron Shield)-102) 및 수소 첨가된 (KNS-106) 비스페놀-A형 에폭시수지계와 페놀-노블락형(KNS-611) 에폭시수지계 중성자 차폐재들의 열분해온도, 열전도도, 열팽창 등의 열적 성질 및 인장강도, 압축강도, 굴곡강도, 비중, 무게변화, 수소함량변화 등의 역학적 성질에 미치는 영향을 검토하였다. 고온 분위기하에서 가열시간이 증가함에 따라 초기단계에서 중성자 차폐재, KNS-102, KNS-106 및 KNS-611의 열분해온도는 증가하는 것으로 나타났으나, 초기단계 이후에는 거의 영향을 받지 않는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 가열시간의 증가에 따라 KNS-102와 KNS-106 차폐재의 열전도도는 감소하는 경향을 나타내었으나, KNS-611의 경우에는 증가하는 경향을 나타내었다. 반면 가열시간의 증가에 따라 중성자 차폐재들의 열팽창계수값은 모두 감소하였다. 고온 분위기하에서 가열시간의 증가에 따라 KNS-102와 KNS-611 차폐재의 인장강도 및 굴곡강도는 증가하는 경향을 나타내었으나, KNS-106은 감소하는 경향을 나타내었다. 그리고 고온 분위기하에서 가열시간은 중성자 차폐재들의 무게변화 및 수소함량의 변화에는 큰 영향을 미치지 않는 것으로 나타났다.

선박용 디젤기관의 재킷 냉각청수시스템 성능 비교에 관한 연구 (A study on performance comparison of jacket cooling fresh water system for marine diesel engine)

  • 2008년 금융위기로 인하여 세계 경제가 어려워지면서 국제 유가 상승과 물동량이 감소하였으며, 대다수의 대형선사들은 차선책으로 대형선박 발주, 항로변경 및 운항방식 등을 개선하여 적자폭을 줄이게 되었다. 특히, 저속 운항 방식은 눈에 띄는 연료비 절감으로 많은 선주사들로부터 호응을 얻었으나 장기간 저속 운전시 고속 운전에 최적화된 주기관의 재킷 청수 냉각시스템은 정상 운전온도를 유지하지 못하고 하강하여 저온부식의 발생을 가속화 하게 되었다. 이로 인해 엔진의 부하가 낮을 경우 기존에 설치되는 재킷 냉각수 냉각기의 역할은 감소하고 조수기의 사용도 제한이 됨으로 재킷 청수 냉각 시스템의 개선이 필요하게 되었다. 본 논문에서는 선박의 저속운항에 따른 선박용 디젤 주기관의 냉각시스템 개선 사항을 검토하기 위하여, 파나막스급 산적화물선인 82k와 케이프급 산적화물선 180k 선박들을 대상으로 주기관 재킷 냉각수 냉각기를 설치 및 미설치하여 주기관 청수 냉각 시스템의 성능 결과를 검토 및 비교 분석 하여, 현 저속 운항선박에 탑재되는 주기관의 성능변화에 적절한 냉각시스템의 설계 개선방안을 제안하였다.

여성농업인의 농업기술측정을 통한 전문교육체계 계획 (The Planning on the Professional Education System through Agricultural Technique Measurement of Women Farmer)

  • This study was complied to analyze the professional agricultural techniques level and to suggest a desirable direction for the professional education system for women farmer. The research was conducted by using in-field surveys and interviews. Data was gathered by questionnaire from 147 women farmer in five specialized crop regions: strawberry, cucumber, rose, apple, and oyster mushroom. The results obtained are as follows. First, the technique levels in computer usage and electronic commerce, machinery usage, pesticide and fertilizer utilization, facility automation, and eco-agricultural cultivation were low. Second, the demand for professional education, evaluated through technique level by standard management diagnosis, was recognized. Areas of concern included: cucumber (temperature control, carbonic acid gas control, grading, funds management), strawberry (light control, soil temperature control, irrigation watering, shipping), rose (temperature control, light control, funds management, cooperated management), oyster mushroom (growth cabinet sterilizer), and apple (flower bud pinching, defloration, fruit thinning, funds management). Based on the results of this study, the following are suggestions for the planning of a professional education system for women farmer. First, it needs to address formal education in marketing, machinery usage, facilities automation, and techniques in pesticide and fertilizer utilization. Second, it needs to be a multi- level program with appropriate terminology at every level which is suitable to each age and ability of women farmer. Third, it needs a more comprehensive manual developed by need analysis of women farmer and a larger lecturer pool for professional education.

대한해협에서의 수온 및 염도변화를 고려한 선박의 저항성능 예측을 위한 기초 연구 (Fundamental Study for Predicting Ship Resistance Performance Due to Changes in Water Temperature and Salinity in Korea Straits)

  • Recently, shipping operators have been making efforts to reduce the fuel cost in various ways, such as trim optimization and bulb re-design. Furthermore, IMO restricts the hydro-dioxide emissions to the environment based on the EEDI (Energy Efficiency Design Index), EEOI (Energy Efficiency Operational Indicator), and SEEMP (Ship Energy Efficiency Management Plan). In particular, ship speed is one of the most important factors for calculating the EEDI, which is based on methods suggested by ITTC (International Towing Tank Conference) or ISO (International Standardization Organization). Many shipbuilding companies in Korea have carried out speed trials around the Korea Straits. However, the conditions for these speed trials have not been exactly the same as those for model tests. Therefore, a ship’s speed is corrected by measured environmental data such as the seawater temperature, density, wind, waves, swell, drift, and rudder angle to match the conditions of the model tests. In this study, fundamental research was performed to evaluate the ship resistance performance due to changes in the water temperature and salinity, comparing the ISO method and numerical simulation. A numerical simulation of a KCS (KRISO Container ship) with a free-surface was performed using the commercial software Star-CCM+ under three conditions that were assumed based on the water temperature and salinity data in the Korea Straits. In the simulation results, the resistance increased under low water temperature & high salinity conditions, and it decreased under high water temperature & low salinity conditions. In addition, the ISO method showed the same result as the simulation.

고온 및 방사선이 중성자 차폐재의 열적, 역학적 및 차폐능 특성에 미치는 영향 (Effects of High Temperature and Radiation on the Properties of Thermal, mechanical and Shielding Ability of Neutron Shielding Materials)

  • Effects of heating time and radiation under high temperature on the properties of thermal, mechanical and shielding ability of modified (KNS-101), hydrogenated bisphenol-A(KNS-201) type epoxy resin and phenol-novolac(KNS-301) type epoxy resin based neutron shielding materials that are used for shipping casks for radioactive material have been investigated. At early stages, the offset temperatures of KNS-101, KNS-201 and KNS-301 increased with the heating time under high temperature, but it was rarely affected by the heating time in the later stages. In addition, the thermal conductivities of KNS-101 and KNS-201 decreased with heating time, but that of KNS-301 increased with the heating time. On the contrary, the thermal expansion coefficients of neutron shielding materials decreased with heating time. At the high temperature, the tensile strength and flexural strength of the shielding materials decreased with heating time. On the contrary, the thermal expansion coefficients of neutron shielding materials decreased with heating time. At the high temperature, the tensile strength and flexural strength of the shielding materials of KNS-101 and KNS-301 increased with heating time, but those of KNS-201 decreased with heating time. The shielding ability of neutron shielding materials slightly increased with the radiation dose, and shielding abilities of shielding materials of KNS-101 and KNS-201 were affected to a more extent than that of KNS-301 by radiation dose under high temperature.

큰느타리버섯 포장형태에 따른 신선도에 미치는 영향 (Effect of trimming type and storage temperature after harvest on shelf life of Pleurotus eryngii)

  • 큰느타리버섯의 소포장에 적합한 포장형태 및 저장온도에 따른 저장기간 중 품질변화를 분석한 결과, 중량감모율은 저장온도가 높거나 저장기간이 길수록 증가하였으며, $0^{\circ}C$저장시 배지부착여부에 따른 차이가 없었으나 $4^{\circ}C$저장에서는 저장기간 38일까지 배지 부착형에서 다소 높았다. 갓신장율은 $0^{\circ}C$저장시 배지부착개체형이 비교적 낮았으며, $4^{\circ}C$저장에서는 배지 부착여부에 따른 큰 차이 없이 저장기간이 길수록 증가하였다. 저온저장 후 상온에서 기간이 길수록 중량감모율은 증가하였으며, 갓신장율은 배지부착형은 증가하였으나, 배지제거형은 6일 이후에 감소하는 경향을 보였다. 저온 저장 후 상온에서의 신선도는 배지부착형이 배지제거형보다 길게 유지되었으며, 32일 저온저장처리가 상온에서 6일까지 판매가능한 신선도가 유지되었다.
