Development of CO Laser-Arc Hybrid Welding Process

  • The principal obstacle to selection of a laser processing method in production is its relatively high equipment cost and the natural unwillingness of production supervision to try something new until it is thoroughly proven. The major objective of this work is focused on the combined features of gas tungsten arc and a low-power cold laser beam. In this work, the laser beam from a 7 watts carbon monoxide laser was combined with electrical discharges from a short-pulsed capacitive discharge GTA welding power supply. When the low power CO laser beam passes through a special composition shielding gas, the CO molecules in the gas absorbs the radiation, and ionizes through a process blown as non-equilibrium, vibration-vibration pumping. The resulting laser-induced plasma(LIP) was positioned between various configurations of electrodes. The high-voltage impulse applied to the electrodes forced rapid electrical breakdown between the electrodes. Electrical discharges between tungsten electrodes and aluminum sheet specimens followed the ionized path provided by LIP. The result was well-focused melted spots.

  • Non-stochiometric CdS:H films grown on polyethersulfon (PES) flexible polymer substrates at room temperature by R.F. sputtering technique. They exhibited a dark- and photo-sheet resistance of $2.7\times10^5$ and $\sim\;50\;{\Omega}$/square, respectively. These values were realized by an optimum control of both hydrogen doping-levels and the surface morphologies of the films. The comparison between the real and the simulated results for the shielding and the transmission by the free space measurement system in the X-band frequency range (8.2 - 12.4 GHz) was also addressed in this study. Samples overlapped with 13 layers of CdS:H/PES were consistent with the transmission results of pure aluminum metal films ($0.1\;{\Omega}$/square) deposited on PES substrates. As a result, by the simples tacking of the CdS:H/PES layers, the perfect control of the shielding and the transmission of the EM wave in the range of X-band frequency is possible by avisible light alone, and their results are especially very outstanding findings in the stealth function of the radome(Radar+Dome) such as aircrafts, ships, and missiles.

방사선 방어시설 구축 시 활용 가능한 관전압별 납 시트 차폐율 성능평가 및 실측 검증 (Evaluation and Verification of the Attenuation Rate of Lead Sheets by Tube Voltage for Reference to Radiation Shielding Facilities)

  • 방사선 방어시설은 진단용 방사선 발생장치가 설치되어 있는 장소에 구축되어 환자, 방사선 작업 종사자 등의 피폭을 방지한다. 본 연구에서는 이러한 방사선 방어시설의 주 재료인 납에 대해 최대관전압별 차폐 두께의 경향성을 몬테칼로 시뮬레이션과 실측을 통해 비교 검증하고자 한다. 몬테칼로 시뮬레이션 코드 중 Monte Carlo N-Particle 6를 활용하였으며 해당 시뮬레이션 상에 모사한 납 차폐 구조도는 선원과 납 시트 사이의 거리는 100 cm, 조사야 크기는 10 × 10 cm2이며 관전압은 80, 100, 120, 140 kVp로 설정하였다. 각 관전압별 에너지 스펙트럼을 산출하여 시뮬레이션에 적용하였다. 80, 100, 120, 140 kVp별 각각 50, 70, 90, 95% 차폐율을 보이는 납 두께를 산출하였다. 80 kVp에서 각 차폐율에 해당하는 두께는 각각 0.03, 0.08, 0.2 1, 0.33 mm이며, 100 kVp에서는 0.05, 0.12, 0.30, 0.50 mm, 120 kVp에서는 0.06, 0.14, 0.38, 0.56 mm, 140 kV p에서는 0.08, 0.16, 0.42, 0.61 mm로 나타났다. 산출된 납 두께에 대해 실측을 진행하였으며 사용된 방사선 발생장치는 GE Healthcare 사의 Discovery XR 656이며 선량계측기의 경우 IBA 사의 MagicMax이다. 실측결과 80 kVp에서 각 두께별 차폐율은 43.56, 70.33, 89.85, 93.05%였으며 100 kVp에서는 52.49, 72.26, 86.31, 92.17%, 120 kVp에서는 48.26, 71.18, 87.30, 91.56%, 140 kVp에서는 50.45, 68.75, 89.95, 91.65%.로 나타났다. 시뮬레이션과 실측을 비교한 결과 두 값의 차이가 평균 약 3% 이내로 작은 것으로 확인되었다. 본 연구의 결과는 몬테칼로 시뮬레이션의 신뢰성을 검증함과 동시에 향후 방사선 방어시설의 구축에 있어 기초 데이터로 활용될 수 있을 것으로 사료된다.

  • 최근 들어 전기적, 기계적 성질이 우수한 다중벽탄소나노튜브(Multi-Walled Carbon Nanotubes)/고분자 복합재료에 대한 연구가 활발히 진행 중이다. 본 연구에서는 모듈라 치합형 동방형 회전 이축 압출기(Modular Intermeshing Co-Rotating Twin Screw Extruder, L/D=42)를 이용하여 PMMA/MWNT 복합체를 제조하였다. 이렇게 제조된 PMMA/MWNT 복합체의 표면저항을 측정한 결과 MWNT의 함량이 4 wt% 일 때 $10^4{\Omega}/sq$를 나타내어 전자파차폐(Electronic Magnetic Interference) 물질로 응용할 수 있는 가능성을 확인하였다. 그리고 열중량 분석기 (Thermogravimetric Analysis), 시차주사열량계(Differential Scanning Calorimeter)를 이용한 열적특성, 주사전자현미경(Scanning Electron Microscopy)을 통하여 형태학적 변화를 분석하였다. 또한 유변학적 특성을 알아보기 위해 용융흐름지수(Melt Flow Index)를 측정하였다.

  • Grey relational analysis has been carried out to develop a new approach for optimization of Nd:YAG laser and MIG hybrid welding parameters. The quality of welded material depends on welding parameters. The parameters chosen for current study include wire type, shielding gas, laser energy, laser focus, traveling speed, and wire feed rate. The welding experiments were performed on 6K21-T4 aluminum alloy sheet. Functional demands on products may vary widely depending on their use. The ultimate tensile stress, width, and penetration were chosen as the optimization criterion. Practice based on an orthogonal array which is following Taguchi's method has been progressed. Base on the results of grey relational analysis, the optimal process parameters were obtained. This integrated work was judged and it is observed that the results obtained by using the optimal parameters are much improved compared to those obtained through initial setting.

  • This work was tamed out to apply a laser welding technique in joining between a Zn coated low carbon steel plate(SECC) and a free cutting carbon steel shaft(SUM24L) with or without W coating. Experiments were carried out and analysed by applying the FD(factorial design)method to obtain the optimum Laser welding condition. Optical microscopy, SEM, TEM and XRD analyses were performed in order to observe the microstructures in the fusion zone and the HAZ. Mechanical properties of the welded specimens were examined by microhardness test, tensile test and twist test. There was no flawed Zn in the fusion zone by EDS analysis. This means that during the welding process, Zn gas could be eliminated by appropriate shielding gas flow rate and butt welding gap. Ni coating itself did not influence on the tensile strength and hardness. However, twist bending strength and the weld depth of the Ni-coated free cutting carbon steel were lower as compared with those of the uncoated free cutting carbon steel. It was attributed to a lower absorbance of laser beam to the shin Ni surface. According to the results of the factorial design tests, the twist bending strength of welded specimens was primarily affected by pulse width, laser power, frequency and speed.

상용차 오일압력 측정용 압력센서 제작을 위한 레이저용접기술 (Development of Laser Welding Technology for Commercial Vehicle Oil Pressure Sensor)

  • Using a fiber laser heat source, an oil pressure sensor was fabricated to measure the pressure in commercial vehicles. A stepping motor was used for the rotational and translational motion in the diaphragms and hardware joining. Laser welding process algorism including shielding gas control and vision system was integrated by using LabVIEW software for the high quality welding and in-line monitoring purpose. For the maximum flexibility in pressure transmission to the pressure sensor, thin sheet metal diaphragm, $25{\sim}50{\mu}m$(SUS-316L), was used and the diaphragms were optimally designed with FEM analysis. The welded samples were cross-sectioned the observation showed that the maximum depth ratio was more than seven times of diaphragms. The maximum welding speed was measured to be as high as 50in/mm by the developed automation mechanism. The fabricated prototypes were tested for the proof pressure, spring constant and sealing. The FEM results of spring constant measurement was as accurate as up to 80% of the design value and the sensor was safely operated up to the nominal pressure of 10bars.

마그네슘합금 판재 정밀성형을 위한 판단조 공정 연구 (Plate Forging Process for Near-net Shaping of Mg-alloy Sheet)

  • Magnesium alloys are used in electronic devices such as laptops due to their lightweight features as well as vibration absorption and electromagnetic shielding properties. However, the precision of electronics is limited by the large number of small and precise ribs, the cost-effective manufacture of which requires appropriate technology. Plate forging is an efficient manufacturing process that can address these challenges. In this study, plate forging of magnesium alloys was investigated specifically for the fabrication of laptop cover. The plate forging process with back-pressure was used for near-net shape formation. Finite element analysis was used to select appropriate variables for back-pressure formation to generate ribs of various sizes and shapes without defects. The reliability of the analysis was verified to manufacture the prototype. The effect of back-pressure can be verified via fabrication of prototypes as well as structure and forming analysis based on finite element method. The process design factor of back-pressure increases formability without defects of under-filling and flow-through. Moreover, the tensile strength was maintained even after high temperature plate forging at 370 ℃, and the elongation was improved.

고 에너지 방사선치료에서 환자의 피폭선량 분포와 생식선의 차폐 (Shielding for Critical Organs and Radiation Exposure Dose Distribution in Patients with High Energy Radiotherapy)

  • 의료용 선형가속기에서 발생되는 고 에너지 광자선은 콜리메이터에 의하여 누출되며 치료두부(head), 콜리메이터, 환자를 포함한 치료실내의 모든 벽과 구성 물질들에 의하여 많은 산란선이 발생된다. 방사선치료는 종양에 따라서 최소한 40 Gy에서 80 Gy까지 조사되기 때문에 주위건강조직 특히 생식가능한 사람에 대한 생식선의 피폭선량을 평가하여야하며 종양치료에 영향을 주지 않은 범위에서 가능한 방법을 동원하여 피폭선량을 줄여야한다. 방사선 안전관리등의 기술기준에 관한 규칙(과학기술부령 제17호) 제3절 의료분야의 특별기준, 제44조(진료환자의 방사선 피폭)에 의하면 진료를 위한 환자 피폭선량을 합리적으로 달성 가능한 최소의 수준으로 유지하기 위한 절차를 구비하여야 하며 과학기술부 장관은 이에 준하는 의료시설 및 장비취급의 기술기준을 정하고 고시하여야한다고 명시 되어있다. 고 에너지방사선은 악성종양환자들의 치료성과를 향상시키는 동시에 치료후 방사선에 의한 만성효과가 발생 될 수 있기 때문에 주선속의 다양한 산란선과 누출선의 선질변화와 선량을 측정하고 생식선과 같은 주요장기를 산란선으로부터 차폐할 수 있는 기구를 제작 사용함으로서 방사선 피폭선량을 최대한으로 감소시킬 수 있었다. 고 에너지 방사선은 의료용 선형가속기(CLINAC 2100C/D. 2100C. 600C)에서 발생시킨 4, 6, 10 MV x-ray와 코발트원격치료장치(ALCYON II)의 코발트선원에서 방출되는 1.25 MV의 감마선을 이용하였다. 선량측정은 폴리스틸렌과 인체팬텀(Rando)사용하였으며 측정기는 이온함, TLD 및 필름을 사용하였다. 고 에너지 방사선에 의한 산란선은 장치의 콜리메이터 뿐만 아니라 치료실 벽 인체내부등 모든 방향에서 방사됨으로 납 벽돌에 의한 차폐율측정은 많은 변수를 가졌으며 고환인 경우에는 3면이 모두 차폐되도록 항아리모양으로 제작하였다. 태아인 경우 태아가 위치하고 있는 골반위에 육교모양의 선반을 만들고 그 위에 납 벽돌을 장치하도록 고안하였다. Co-60 감마선, 4 MV x-선, 10 MV x-선에서 발생되는 누출선량과 산란선량에 의한 평균 피폭선량은 조사면 중심으로부터 10, 30, 60cm 거리에서 조사면내 최대선량에 대하여 각각 $10^{-2},\;10^{-3},\;10^{-4}$의 비율로 측정되었으며 거리에 따라 지수함수로 줄어들었다. 흉부에 국한된 종양을 10 MV x-ray, $12{\times}12 cm^2$ 조사면으로 치료하였을 때 자궁에 받는 피폭선량은 0.9 mGy/Gy이며 고환이 받는 피폭선량은 0.6 mGy/Gy 이었으며 체장과 신장은 각각 4.8 mGy/Gy 와 2.5 mGy/Gy이다 10 MV x-선, $14{\times}14cm^2$ 조사면 경계로부터 10 cm 밖에서 납벽돌의 반가층 두께는 약 9.0 mm 이였고 20cm 밖에서는 반가층 두께가 약 6.5 mm로 측정되었다. 복부에 위치한 악성종양을 60 Gy 조사하였을 경우 태아가 위치하고 있는 자궁의 피폭선량은 약 370 mGy이고 이곳을 10 mGy이하가 되도록 차폐하려면 약 6.2 cm두께의 납 벽돌을 자궁위에 장착하여야 하며 골반치료시 고환에 10 mGy이하가 되도록 차폐하려면 약 5 cm 두께의 납 항아리가 요구된다. 고 에너지 고 준위 방사선치료시 고환은 3면을 항아리모양으로 차폐할 수 있어 피폭선량을 상당히 줄일 수 있으며 자궁인 경우 체내에서 산란된 선량의 차폐는 불가능하였다.

  • During the last two decades the laser beam has progressed from a sophisticated laboratory apparatus to an adaptable and viable industrial tool. Especially, in its welding mode, the laser offers high travel speed, low distortion, and narrow fusion and heat-affected zones (HAZ). The principal obstacle to selection of a laser processing method in production is its relatively high equipment cost and the natural unwillingness of production supervision to try something new until it is thoroughly proven. The major objective of this work is focused on the combined features of gas tungsten arc and a low-power cold laser beam. Although high-power laser beams have been combined with the plasma from a gas tungsten arc (GTA) torch for use in welding as early as 1980, recent work at the Ohio State University has employed a low power laser beam to initiate, direct, and concentrate a gas tungsten arcs. In this work, the laser beam from a 7 watts carbon monoxide laser was combined with electrical discharges from a short-pulsed capacitive discharge GTA welding power supply. When the low power CO laser beam passes through a special composition shielding gas, the CO molecules in the gas absorbs the radiation, and ionizes through a process known as non-equilibrium, vibration-vibration pumping.
