기계적 프레스 접합의 공정 및 강도 평가 (Process and Strength Evaluation of Mechanical Press Joining)

  • New methods for joining sheet of metal are being sought. One of the most promising methods is MPJ (mechanical press joining). It has been used in thin metal work because of its simple process and relative advantages over other methods, as it requires no fasteners such as bolts or rivets, consumes less energy than welding, and produces less ecological problems than adhesive methods. In this study, the joining process and static behavior of single overlap joints has been investigated. During fixed die type joining process for SPCC plates, the optimal applied punching force was found. The maximum tensile-shear strength of the specimen produced at the optimal punching force was 1.75 kN. The FEM analysis result on the tensile-shear specimen showed the maximum von-Mises stress of 373 MPa under the applied load of 1.7 kN, which is very close to the maximum tensile strength of the SPCC sheet(= 382 MPa). This suggests that the FEM analysis is capable of predicting the maximum tensile load of the joint.

가공 전극을 적용한 590 MPa급 DP강의 저항 점용접에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Resistance Spot Weldability of 590 MPa Grade DP Steel with Modified Electrode Tip)

  • The use of advanced high-strength steels (AHSS) in automotive applications has steadily increased over the past few years. Two different failure modes are generally observed in shear-tension tests for resistance spot welds of AHSS. interfacial fractures and full button pullout. Despite high load-carrying capacity. the resistance spot welds in AHSS cue prone to interfacial fractures. To improve the load carrying ability of welds during shear-lap and cross tension tests. the tip surface of the electrode was grooved in a round shape. The electrode tip surface was modified so as to concentrate the current now in the central and circumferential portion of the electrode force. The results showed that the interfacial fracture was suppressed in welds using the modified electrode. In a comparison of failure mode during mechanical tests. the welds made with the modified electrode showed a higher tendency to fail via full button pullout fracture.

  • Various alloy system, such as Cu-Sn-Ti, Cu-Ag-Ti, and Ni-B-Cr-based alloy are used for the brazing of diamond grits. However, the problem of the adhesion strength between the diamond grits and the brazed alloy is presented. The adhesion strength between the diamond grits and the melting filler alloy is predicted by the contact angle, thereby, instead of diamond grit, the study on the wettability between the graphite and the brazing alloy has been indirectly executed. In this study, Cu-13Sn-12Ti filler alloy was manufactured, and the contact angles, the shear strengths and the interfacial area between the graphites(diamond grits) and braze matrix were investigated. The contact angle was decreased on increasing holding time and temperature. The results of shear strength of the graphite joints brazed filler alloys were observed that the joints applied Cu-13Sn-12Ti alloy at brazing temperature 940 $^{\circ}C$ was very sound condition indicating the shear tensile value of 23.8 MPa because of existing the widest carbide(TiC) reaction layers. The micrograph of wettability of the diamond grit brazed filler alloys were observed that the brazement applied Cu-13Sn-12Ti alloy at brazing temperature $990^{\circ}C$ was very sound condition because of existing a few TiC grains in the vicinity of the TiC layers.

저항 점 용접된 TRIP590강의 계면파단특성에 관한 평가 (Evaluation of Resistance Spot Weld Interfacial Fractures in Tensile-Shear Tests of TRIP 590 Steels)

  • The resistance spot welding of TRIP590 steels was investigated to enhance understanding of weld fracture during tensile-shear strength (TSS) test. The main failure modes for spot welds of TRIP590 steels were nugget pullout and interfacial fracture. The peak load to cause a weld interfacial failure was found to be related to fracture toughness of the weld and the weld diameter. Although interfacial fracture occurred in the samples, the load carrying capacity of the weld was high and not significantly affected by the fracture mode. Substantial part of the weld exhibits the characteristic dimple (or elongated dimple) fractures on interfacial fractured surface, in spite of the high hardness values associated with the martensite microstructures. The high load-bearing ability of the weld is directly associated with the area of ductile fracture occurred in weld. Therefore, the judgment of the quality of resistance spot welds in TRIP590 steels, the load carrying capacity of the weld should be considered as an important factor than fracture mode.

  • A new form-joining process with the aid of an adhesive is proposed in which an epoxy adhesive is applied to a sheet metal pair, and before it cures the pair is clinched to cause the geometric constraint in the form of a protrusion. In order to reduce the forming load and the height of protrusions, a new die and punch set with a very small clearance was devised to reduce the depth of drawing and the forming load. Taguchi method was employed to find the optimal values of design parameters. To implement each case of the orthogonal array, the finite element method was used. The experiments showed that on the tensile-shear test, the bonding strength of the new form-joining process with an epoxy adhesive is approximately the same as that of the resistance spot welding; and in comparison with the other two form-joining processes with an epoxy adhesive, the height of protrusions was reduced by more than 65 percent and the forming load by 50 percent.

  • The dynamic resistance monitoring is one of the important issues in that in-process and real time quality assurance of resistance spot weld is needed to increase the product reliability. Secondary dynamic resistance patterns, as a real manner, are hard to adapt those factors in real time and in-plant system. In the present study, a new dynamic resistance detecting method is presented as a practical manner of weld quality assurance at the primary circuit. By the correlation analysis, it is found that the primary dynamic resistance patterns are basically similar to those of the secondary. Various dynamic resistance indices are characterized with the primary curve. And quality of the weld, like the tensile shear strength, is estimated using adaptive neuro-fuzzy estimation system which is consisted of the Sugeno fuzzy algorithm. Through the fuzzy clustering and parameter optimization, real time weld quality assurance system with less efforts is proposed.

  • Based on the principle of complementary energy, an analytical method is developed which focused on the end effects for determining thermal stress distributions in the claded beam. This method gives the stress distributions which completely satisfy the stress-free boundary condition at the edge. Numerical result shows that shear stress and peeling stress at the interface between the substrate and clad are significant near the edge and become negligible in the interior region. Even though the relative location where the maximum or minimum stresses take place moves to interior as the length of the beam become smaller, the absolute location from the free end and the value of these stresses are the same in spite of the variation of the length of beam.

  • In an attempt to optimize friction spot joining process of Al alloys for automobiles, Friction spot joining was used make lap feint on strips of AA5052-H32 and AA6022-T4 aluminium alloy. The effects of joining parameters such as tool rotating speed, plunging depth, joining time and kind of upper plate on the joints properties were investigated. An optimal tensile shear strength parameter of a tool rotating speed of 1000rpm, dwell time 2.5sec with upper plate 6022 can be found to make a good joint.

  • Microstructure and mechanical property of In48Sn solder on electrolytic Au/Ni/Cu BGA substrate were investigated with the number of reflows. AuIn and AuIn$_2$ IMCs were formed at the interface solder and pad after 1reflow. An increase of the number of reflows changed AuIn into AuIn$_2$. AuIn$_2$ IMC layer at the interface broke and spalled away into the solder after 3reflows. Shear force decreased with the number of reflows because the weakness of the interface by the spalling of AuIn$_2$ IMC layer.

  • We investigated that the metallurgical, mechanical and electrical properties of the Sn-3.SAg/Cu ball grid array (BGA) solder joints at a reflow temperature of $255^{\circ}C$ for different reflow times of 10, 60, 300 and 1800 s. Two different intermetallic compound (IMC) layers, consisting of scallop-shaped $Cu_6Sn_5$ and very thin $Cu_3Sn$, formed at the solder/substrate interface, and their thicknesses increased with increasing reflow time. The shear force peaked after reflow for 60 s, and then significantly decreased with increasing reflow time. The fracture occurred along the solder ball in the initial reflow, but the fraction of the brittle fracture increased with increasing reflow time. The IMC growth and the volume of Cu dissolved in the solder balls affected the electrical property.
