The shear spinning process, where the plastic deformation zone is localized in a very small portion of the workpiece, shows a promise for increasingly broader application to the production of axially symmetric parts. In this paper, the three components of the working force are calculated by a newly proposed deformation model in which the spinning process is understood as shearing deformation after uniaxial yielding by bending, and shear stress, $\tau_{rz}$, becomes k, yield limit in pure shear, in the deformation zone. The tangential force are first calculated and the feed force and the normal force are obtained by the assumption of uniform distribution of roller pressure on the contact surface. The optimum contact area is obtained by minimizing the bending energy required to get the assumed deformation of the blank. The calculated forces are compared with experimental results. A comparison shows that theoretical prediction is reasonably in good agreement with experimental results

Faults are fractures along which there is visible offset by shear displacement parallel to the fracture surface. Faults can occur as single discrete breaks, but where the rock has been repeatedly faulted, or where the rock is especially weak, no discrete break may be evident. What forms instead is a fault zone composed of countless subparallel and interconnecting closely spaced fault surfaces. Faulting is fundamentally a brittle mechanism for achieving shear displacement. At deep crustal levels where rocks tend to deform plastically under conditions of elevated temperature and confining pressure, shear displacement is achieved by and development of shear zones. In this paper authors propose the fault grade in Korea.

This paper presents the results of tests performed on the transfer girders which have been generally used between upper walls and lower frames in the hybrid structures. The 8 specimens were designed using (1) ACI method, (2) strut-tie model, and (3) X-type shear reinforcement cage. The capacities of the specimens are in general larger than the design values except the one designed according to strut-tie model. The reason for this difference seems to be due to the arbitrary allocation of transferred shear force to the path of direct compression strut and the path of indirect strut and tie. The failure modes turn out toe be (1) shear failure at critical shear zone, (2) compressive concrete crushing in the diagonal strut in the shear zone of transfer girder, and (3) compressive concrete crushing in the corner of upper wall.
The study reported in this paper deals with the development for parametric investigation of the influence of the rheological properties of the lubricant in the thermohydrodynamic (THD) film conditions which occur in slider and journal bearings. A parametric investigation based on a Bingham model with a shear yield stress which best fit the experimental pressure is performed for predicting the thickness of the shear Bone in lubricating films with fixed geometry between the stationary and moving surfaces. The results suggest that the shear yield stress for the lubricating film is proportional to the pressure developed in the film within the range of the investigated cases and the shear zone thickness which is of the same order of magnitude as that obtained by the empirical formula is significantly smaller than the fluid film thickness in the lubrication zone.
The shear spinning process, where the plastic deformation zone is localized in a very small portion of the workpiece, shows a promise for increasingly broader application to the production of axially symmetric parts. In this paper, the three components of working force are calculated by the newly proposed deformation model in which the spinning process is understood as shearing deformation after uniaxial yielding by bending, and shear stress, $\tau_{rz}$ becomes $\kappa$, yield limit in pure shear, in the deformation zone. The tangential forces are first calculated and the feed forces and the normal forces are obtained by the assumption of uniform distribution of roller pressure on the contact surface. The optimum contact area is obtained by minimizing the bending energy required to get the assumed deformation of the blank. The calculated forces are compared with experimental results. This research aims to investigate the seismic response of RC shear wall buildings of 5-, 6-, 7-, 8-, 9-, and 10-story designed as conventional and ductile and located in moderate seismic zone in Saudi Arabia in accordance with the seismic provisions of the American code ASCE-7-16. Dynamic analysis is conducted using the developed models in ETABS and the design spectra of the selected zone. The seismic responses of a number of design variations are evaluated in terms of story displacements, drift, shear and moments of both conventional and ductile building models as performance measures and presented comparatively. In addition, pushover analysis is also performed for the lowest and highest building models. Cost estimate of ductile and conventional walls is evaluated and compared to each other in terms of weight of reinforcement bars. In addition, due to the complexity of design and installation of ductile shear walls, sensitivity analysis is performed as well. It is observed that conventional design considerably increases induced seismic responses as well as cost compared to ductile one.
In order to investigate the behaviour of lying multi-stud connectors in cable-pylon anchorage zone, twenty-four push-out tests are carried out with different stud numbers and diameters. The effect of concrete block width and tensile force on shear strength is investigated using the developed and verified finite element model. The results show that the shear strength of the lying multi-stud connectors is reduced in comparison with the lying single-stud connector. The reduction increases with the increasing of the number of studs in the vertical direction. The influence of the stud number on the strength reduction of the lying multi-stud connectors is decreased under combined shear and tension loads compared with under pure shear. Yet, due to multi-stud effect, they still can't be ignored. The concrete block width has a non-negligible effect on the shear strength of the lying multi-stud connectors and therefore should be chosen properly when designing push-out specimens. No obvious difference is observed between the strength reductions of the studs with 22 mm and 25 mm diameters. The shear strengths obtained from the tests are compared with those predicted by AASHTO LRFD and Eurocode 4. Eurocode 4 generally gives conservative predictions of the shear strength, while AASHTO LRFD overestimates the shear strength. In addition, the lying multi-stud connectors with the diameters of 22 m and 25 mm both exhibit adequate ductility according to Eurocode 4. An expression of load-slip curve is proposed for the lying multi-stud connectors and shows good agreement with the test results.
Deep-sea surface sediments acquired by multiple corer from 69 stations in the Clarion-Clipperton fracture zone of the northeast equatorial Pacific, were analyzed for shear strength properties to understand sedimentological process. The pelagic red clay from northern part of study area shows low average shear strength(4.4 kPa), while the siliceous sediment from middle area shows high(6.3 kPa). The calcareous sediment from southern area shows very low average shear strength(3.4 kPa), and transitional sediment between middle and southern area shows intermediate value(3.8 kPa) between siliceous and calcareous sediment. The depth profiles of average shear strength of pelagicred clay show gradual increment with depth due to decrease of water content with depth by general consolidation process. On the other, abrupt increment of average shear strength with depth in siliceous sediment is related to sedimentary hiatus. The very low shear strength in calcareous sediment is linked to very high sedimentation rate ofsouthern area compared with other study area.

Shear failure in soil is the primary cause of most geotechnical structure failures or instability. Soil water content is a significant factor affecting soil shear strength. In this study, the shear strength of samples with different water contents was tested. The shear strength, cohesion, and internal friction angle decreased with increasing water content. Based on the variation of cohesion and internal friction angle, the water content zone was divided into a high-water content zone and low-water content zone with a threshold water content of 15.05%. Cohesion and internal friction angle have a good linear relationship with water content in both zones. Environmental Scanning Electron Microscopy (ESEM) test presented that the aggregates size of the compacted loess gradually increases with increasing water content. Meanwhile, the clay in the compacted loess forms a matric that envelops around the surface of the aggregates and fills the inter-aggregates pores. A quantitative analysis of bound water and free water under different water contents using a nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) test was carried out. The threshold water content between bound water and free water was slightly below the plastic limit, which is consistent with the results of shear strength parameters. Combined with the T2 distributions obtained by NMR, one can define a T2 relaxation time of 1.58 ms as the boundary point for bound water distribution without free water. Finally, the effects of bound water and free water on shear strength parameters were analyzed using linear regression analysis.
Shear wave velocity (or shear modulus) is very important in the evaluation of seismic performance of a fill dam under an earthquake. A shear wave velocity profile can be determined by surface wave method such as HWAW and SASW methods but this profile has uncertainty caused by spatial variation of material property in a fill dam. This uncertainty in shear wave velocity profile could be considered using a coefficient of variation of material property in the reliability based analysis. In this paper, the possible 600 shear wave velocity profiles in the core and rockfill zone of fill dam were generated by the random shear wave velocity profile generation method, proposed by Hwang and Park, based on the field shear wave velocity profiles determined by the HWAW and SASW methods. And, through the statistical analysis of generated shear wave velocity profiles in the fill dam, the coefficient of variation (COV) of shear wave velocity with depth were evaluated for the core and rock filled zone of fill dam in Korea.
