  • Multispectral image data of high spatial resolution is required to obtain correct information on the ground surface. The multispectral image data has lower resolution compared to panchromatic data. PAN-sharpening fusion technique produces the multispectral data with higher resolution of panchromatic image. Recently the object-based approach is more applied to the high spatial resolution data than the conventional pixel-based one. For the object-based image analysis, it is necessary to perform image segmentation that produces the objects of pixel group. Image segmentation can be effectively achieved by the process merging step-by-step two neighboring regions in RAG (Regional Adjacency Graph). In the satellite remote sensing, the operational environment of the satellite sensor causes image degradation during the image acquisition. This degradation increases variation of pixel values in same area, and results in deteriorating the accuracy of image segmentation. An iterative approach that reduces the difference of pixel values in two neighboring pixels of same area is employed to alleviate variation of pixel values in same area. The size of segmented regions is associated with the quality of image segmentation and is decided by a stopping rue in the merging process. In this study, the image restoration and segmentation was quantitatively evaluated using simulation data and was also applied to the three PAN-sharpened multispectral images of high resolution: Dubaisat-2 data of 1m panchromatic resolution from LA, USA and KOMPSAT3 data of 0.7m panchromatic resolution from Daejeon and Chungcheongnam-do in the Korean peninsula. The experimental results imply that the proposed method can improve analytical accuracy in the application of remote sensing high resolution PAN-sharpened multispectral imagery.

  • This Paper proposes an adaptive error diffusioThis paper proposes an adaptive error diffusion algorithm for text enhancement followed by an efficient text segmentation that uses the maximum gradient difference (MGD). The gradients are calculated along with scan lines, and the MGD values are filled within a local window to merge the potential text segments. Isolated segments are then eliminated in the non-text region filtering process. After the left segmentation, a conventional error diffusion method is applied to the background, while the edge enhancement error diffusion is used for the text. Since it is inevitable that visually objectionable artifacts are generated when using two different halftoning algorithms, the gradual dilation is proposed to minimize the boundary artifacts in the segmented text blocks before halftoning. Sharpening based on the gradually dilated text region (GDTR) prevents the printing of successive dots around the text region boundaries. The error diffusion algorithm with edge enhancement is extended to halftone color images to sharpen the tort regions. The proposed adaptive error diffusion algorithm involves color halftoning that controls the amount of edge enhancement using a general error filter. The multiplicative edge enhancement parameters are selected based on the amount of edge sharpening and color difference. Plus, the additional error factor is introduced to reduce the dot elimination artifact generated by the edge enhancement error diffusion. By using the proposed algorithm, the text of a scanned image is sharper than that with a conventional error diffusion without changing background.

  • Roads are an essential factor in the physical functioning of modern society. The spatial information of the road has much longer update cycle than the traffic situation information, and it is necessary to generate the information faster and more accurately than now. In this study, as a way to achieve that goal, the Pan-sharpening technique was applied to satellite images of Kompsat 3 and 3A to improve spatial resolution. Then, the data were used for road extraction using the semantic segmentation technique, which has been actively researched recently. The acquired Kompsat 3/3A pan-sharpened images were trained by putting it into a U-Net based segmentation model along with Massachusetts road data, and the applicability of the images were evaluated. As a result of training and verification, it was found that the model prediction performance was maintained as long as certain conditions were maintained for the input image. Therefore, it is expected that the possibility of utilizing satellite images such as Kompsat satellite will be even higher if rich training data are constructed by applying a method that minimizes the impact of surrounding environmental conditions affecting models such as shadows and surface conditions.

  • Mathematical paradoxes may arise when computations give unexpected results. We use three paradoxes to illustrate how they work in the basic probability theory. In the process of resolving the paradoxes, we expect that student-teachers can pedagogically gain valuable experience in regards to sharpening their mathematical knowledge and critical reasoning.

  • In this paper, a speech enhancement method based on phonemic properties and masking effect is propsoed. It is a modified type of spectral subtraction wherein the spectral sharpening process is exploited in unvoiced state considering the phonemic properties. The masking threshold is used to remove the residual noise. The proposed spectral subtraction shows similar performance as that of the classical spectral subtraction method in view of the SNR. But by the prposed scheme, the unvoiced sound region is shown to exhibit relatively less signal distortion in the enhanced speech.

  • In this paper, we present a new interpolation scheme for image enhancement using fuzzy inference. In general, interpolation techniques are based on linear operators which are essentially lowpass filters, hence, they tend to blur fine details in the original image. In our approach, the operator itself balances the strength of its sharpening and noise suppressing components according to the properties of the input image data.

  • This paper proposes a composite filter for noise reduction of image. To improve the image quality by reducing the noise in the liver ultrasound image, we tried to help the accurate image analysis. In the experiment, the top seven composite filters were selected by combining the Gaussian blur filter, the sharpening filter, and the median filter using the ATS-539 ultrasonic phantom, and applied to the ultrasound image in which this was done. As a result, it was found that the values of SNR, CNR and MSR all increased when the top seven composite filters were applied. In addition, PSNR of more than 30 dB, close to SSIM 1 showed that the image loss rate is small. Therefore, the appropriate application of the proposed composite filter in this research will be useful for accurate video reading and analysis.
