  • The purpose of this study was to provide basic data necessary for the development of clothing that can improve the satisfaction of body shape of elderly men by examining subjective characteristics and characteristics of perception type of older men's body shape. Using the Q methodology, I investigated and analyzed the process of formation and main characteristics of subjectivity of various types of recognition that elderly men express about their body shape. There were four types of perception of body shape in elderly men: flat hip and bird legs skinny body, back bent and abdominal obese body, thick neck and upper body development body, forward cervical neck and protruding abdomen obese body. The actual body shape of elderly men was classified according to the bust, waist circumference, hip circumference, and body part angle. But recognition body shape of elderly men was classified by visual factors like the abdomen, the angle of the neck, the inclination of the back, the slope of the waist, and the degree of obesity. It is necessary to consider the trend of silver fashion which is increasing in demand. In addition, it is necessary to develop clothing patterns of comfortable fit through ergonomic study on the physical characteristics of older men. Consideration should be given to the design and pattern that can reduce the difference between the ideal body shape and the body shape recognized by older men.

  • This study investigated the demand for functional clothing that compensates for the physical deformation of women due to aging. For this, the degree of perception of physical deformation at the new silver generation was examined. The demand for functional clothing that corrects body shape and posture according to differences in age and degree of perception was analyzed. Study participants(n=138) were women who ranged from 55 to 65 in age. Perception of physical deformation was investigated in the categories of deformation of body posture, cognition of joint pain, and deformation of body shape. Analysis results showed that cognition of joint pain was the largest of the three elements of body deformation, and each element had a high correlation between each other. Perception for degree of body deformation for women in their 50's and 60's was similar. These results show that changes in posture or body shape occur severely from the late 50's, and this appears as joint pain. The group with a high perception of posture deformation showed an especially high demand for functional clothing that corrects body shape and posture. The group with a high perception of body shape deformation had high demand for functional clothing that corrects body shape by lifting the hips and the breasts, and making the abdomen and waist slimmer. The results of this study show that women of the new silver generation are attuned to deformations in body shape and posture as well as joint pain beginning in their mid-fifties. There is a need to develop functional clothing to correct posture and body shape for the new silver generation women.

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between demographic characteristics, health factors, oral health factors and subjective body shape perception of adolescents in order to provide basic data for adolescents health management. Methods: This study was analyzed using Korea Youth Risk Behavior Web-Based Survey in 2015, where 68,043 adolescents in total participated. Data were analyzed by SPSS Ver. 21.0. Multiple regression analysis was used to analyze the relationships among health factors and oral health factors related to subjective body shape perception. Results: The analysis of the factors influencing the body shape perception of male adolescents showed that they tend to be low in school performance, low in family economic level, and high school students. The worse they perceive their subjective health to be, the more they feel stress, and the less frequently they brush their teeth per day. They had bad breath. The analysis of the factors influencing the body shape perception of female adolescents showed that they tend to be low in school performance, low in family economic level, and high school students. The worse they feel their subjective health is, the more they feel unhappy, and stressful, and the less frequently they brush their teeth per day. They feel pain during chewing, and have bad breath. Conclusions: In conclusion, it is necessary to consider educational intervention in adolescent life that will make them have proper perception of their body shape for proper health management of it. To make the intervention effective, we need to consider various factors such as health factors and oral health factors.

Method: The data were collected by using a questionnaire and physical examination records. The subjects were comprised of 669 children, all 12-years old, obtained from five (5) different elementary schools located in Jechoen. Data were analyzed with frequency, percentages, Chi-square test, ANOVA using the SPSS program. Results: 12.5% of male students, 11.1% of female students perceived themselves obese. There were significant differences in obesity index according to weight perception in male students ($x^2$=140.47, p= .000), in female students ($x^2$=130.99, p= .000). The percentages corresponding to normal body weight were highest with students who thought themselves thin in male students and self-perceived normal in female students. But in female students, 23.3% of self-perceived thin students, 37.8% of students who thought themselves obese corresponded to normal body weight actually. There were significant differences in body shape satisfaction according to weight perception in male students($x^2$=140.47, p= .000), and in female students($x^2$=130.99, p= .000). The percentages of body shape satisfaction were highest with students who thought themselves normal in male students while and in female students, the students who thought themselves thin were highest. There were significant differences in body shape esteem according to weight perception for male students (F=17.67, p= .000), and in female students (F=13.95, p= .000). The mean scores of body shape esteem were highest with students who thought themselves normal in male students and thin in female students. The students who thought themselves obese were lowest. There were significant differences in weight perception according to father's body shape ($x^2$=13.72, p= .008) in male students and father's educational level ($x^2$=14.90, p= .021), mother's educational level ($x^2$=17.73, p= .007), mother's body shape ($x^2$=13.07, p= .011) in female students.

  • The purpose of this study was to provide basic data for the development of a prototype of a garment that allows middle aged men to look idealized by examining the type of perception of middle aged men based on their subjective evaluation and their characteristics. This study used the Q methodology, which is a subjective research method that finds correlations among middle aged men across subjective attributes. The types of perception of body shape of middle aged men were analyzed as three types: leaning forward shape with bird legs, developed upper body shape with thick legs, protruding abdomen obesity body shape. The leaning forward shape with bird legs was recognized as the lowest in the BMI index, and the shoulder and chest were sagging, legs were thinner than the body and leaned forward. And that the hip were protruding and had a flat rectangular shape. Developed upper body shape with thick legs was the second overweight type of BMI index. It was recognized that the ankle and calf thighs were thick and the upper abdomen protruded upper body development body. Protruding abdomen obesity body shape was the most obese type with BMI index. In this type, the height was the smallest, and the upper abdomen came out and the abdomen protruded, and the abdomen was more exuded than the chest, and the neck was thick and the hips were recognized as the big body. The middle aged men's recognitive body shape was classified as a similar to actual body shape. However, in the recognition type, the frontal and side body types were mixed and classified. It is necessary to study the ergonomic pattern considering the features of each body type. This suggests that psychological effects can be obtained that allow the body shape that changes with age to be accepted more positively.
