To improve the reliability of seismic hazard assessment of historic earthquake, shaking table test of a 1/2 scale model of wood house with thatched roof was peformed. Scaled model was constructed through rigorous verification process to have quantitative relationship between the intensity of earthquake and damage state. The completed model was mounted on a shaking table and subjected to the dynamic tests. Two kinds of tests were performed: exploratory test and fragility test. The exploratory test was done with low intensity shaking. In the fragility test, the behavior of the model was carefully monitored while increasing the shaking intensity. The construction details of the model are provided and test procedures are reported. Finally important test results are presented and their implications are discussed.
Shaking table test is an important and useful method to help structural engineers get better knowledge about the seismic performance of the buildings with complex structure, just like Shanghai tower. According to Chinese seismic design guidelines, buildings with a very complex and special structural system, or whose height is far beyond the limitation of interrelated codes, should be firstly studied through the experiment on seismic behavior. To investigate the structural response, the weak storey and crack pattern under earthquakes of different levels, and to help the designers improve the design scheme, the shaking table model tests of a scaled model of Shanghai tower were carried out at the State Key Laboratory of Disaster Reduction in Civil Engineering, Tongji University, Shanghai, China. This paper describes briefly the structural system, the design method and manufacture process of the scaled model, and the test results as well.
Focusing on the effect of excess pore pressure dissipation on liquefaction-induced ground deformation, a series of 1-g shaking table tests were conducted in a rigid soil container by use of saturated Toyoura sand, the relative density of which was 20-60%. These tests were subjected to the sinusoidal base shaking with step increased accelerations: 100, 200, 300 and 400 Gals for 2-4 seconds. Shaking table tests were done using either water or polymer fluid with more viscous than water, thus varying the sand permeability of model tests. Excess pore pressures, accelerations, settlements and lateral deformations were measured in each test. Test results are presented in this paper and the effect of sand permeability on liquefaction and liquefaction-induced ground deformation was discussed in detail.

The objective of the research stated here was aimed at providing the information needed to establish the Korean Seismic Design Code Recommendations and Guides for precast concrete (P.C) large panel apartment buildings. This was accomplished by investigation and analysis of the response of P.C large panel structures subjected to shaking table excitation simulating earthquake ground motion. one of the test specimens used was 1/3-scaled 3-story box P.C model provided by Sam-Hwan Camus Corporation. The 4m $\times$4m shaking table was used to simulate the earthquake ground motion. the employed input accelerogram was the one recorded as Taft N21E component and the peak ground acceleration(PGA) was scaled depending on the desired level of seismic severity and the time according to dynamic similitude rule. Based on results obtained from shaking table test of this P.C model, the following conclusions were drawn . (1) As far as test specimen is concerned, the seismic safety factors turns out to be 7~8. (2)P.C model has damping ratio of about8% which is twice larger than in-situ R.C. structure. And (3)this model has global displacement ductility ratio of 2~3 through the energy dissipation by opening and sliding of joints.

Seismic performances of the base isolated model of Five Story Stone Pagoda were studied through shaking table tests. Friction pendulum system (FPS), Pure-friction system with laminated rubber bearing (LRB) and Ball with rubber bearing were selected fur the comparison of performances. Performances of specially designed isolation systems were tested dynamically using shaking table. The test results of isolated model are compared with those of fixed base model. Compared with fixed base model, the isolated model showed that it could withstand much higer intensity of earthquake motion. The Effective Peak Ground Acceleration (EPGA) value of isolated model when the top component tipped over was above twice of that value in case of fixed base model. According to the additional test results, the lower value of coefficient of friction than that of common frictional base isolation systems is more effective to protect the piled multi-block system of Pagoda against moderate intesity of ground motion.
Servohydraulic shaking tables are being increasingly used in the field of earthquake engineering. They play a critical role in the advancement of the research state and remain one of the valuable tools for seismic testing. Recently, the National Earthquake Engineering Research Center, CGS, has acquired a 6.1m x 6.1 m shaking table system which has a six degree-of-freedom testing capability. The maximum specimen mass that can be tested on the shaking table is 60 t. This facility is designed specially for testing a complete civil engineering structures, substructures and structural elements up to collapse or ultimate limit states. It can also be used for qualification testing of industrial equipments. The current paper presents the main findings of the experimental shake-down characterization testing of the CGS shaking table. The test program carried out in this study included random white noise and harmonic tests. These tests were performed along each of the six degrees of freedom, three translations and three rotations. This investigation provides fundamental parameters that are required and essential while elaborating a realistic model of the CGS shaking table. Also presented in this paper, is the numerical model of the shaking table that was established and validated.

This paper presents the shaking table testing method, only using building specimen as an experimental part taking into account the dynamic soil-structure interaction based on the substructure method. The Parmelee's soil stiffness is used as an assumed soil model in here. The proposed methodologies are summarized as: (1) Acceleration feedback method is the one that the shaking table is driven by the motion, corresponding to the acceleration at foundation of the total SSI system. This is found by observing the fed-back accelerations of superstructure and using the interaction force based on the acceleration formulation. (2) Velocity feedback method is the one that the shaking table is driven by the motion, corresponding to the velocity at foundation of the total SSI system. This is found by observing the fed-back accelerations of superstructure and using the interaction force based on the velocity formulation. The applicability of the proposed methodologies to the shaking table test is investigated and experimentally verified in this paper.

This study presents the results of shaking table test of scaled model structures with added viscoelastic dampers, which are considered to be one of the most efficient means of upgrading existing structures against seismic loads. The experimental results were compared with those from analysis based on the linear modeling of viscoelastic dampers. The parameters obtained from free vibration test were utilized in the analysis. According to the results the added viscoelastic dampers turned out to be effective in reducing the responses of the model structures. It was also found that the analysis with linear modeling of viscoelastic dampers could simulate the test results accurately.

This paper proposes the shaking table testing method, without any soil specimen only using building model as an experimental part, considering dynamic soil-structure interaction based on the substructure method. The two-layered soil is assumed as a soil model of the entire soil-structure interaction syhstem(SSI) in this paper. Differently from the constant soil stiffness, the frequency-dependent dynamic soil stiffness is approximated for the case of both acceleration and velocity feedback, respectively. The interaction force is observed from measuring the accelerations at superstructure. Using the soil filters corresponding to the approximated dynamic soil stiffness, the shaking table drives the acceleration or velocity, which the needed motion to give the building specimen the SSI effects. Experimental results show the applicability the proposed methodologies to the shaking table test considering dynamic soil-structure interaction.
Earthquakes are reported thai building structures have been colossal damaged, but before 1988 designed structures which were not applicate seismic design code have no seismic performance. Especially, for the apartment structures were indicated that it have no resist wall element of earthquake before 1988 designed structures. We have to evaluate for seismic performance this structures, therefore it will be retrofitted for seismic index sufficient structures. We performed seismic performance evaluation for model structures by MIDAS which is general structure analysis software. In this study, it was performed shaking table test to evaluate model structure which is reinforcement concrete and 5 floors for seismic performance index. We made specimens by similar's law and tested shaking table test. In the shaking table test it is not performed prototype model test because of space and equipment condition. So we had made scale-down model for 1/5 by similar's law. That's why it needs for the evaluation of performance. However, it is not possible to do an experiment of prototype owing to the shortage of space and the limit of an experimental instrument in the shaking table test. Then, modeling and reducing the part of prototype do the experiment. In this experiment a shaking table test is done and seismic performance of model structures is evaluated by using similitude laws for scale down specimen. As a result it is proved that non-seismic design structures need to retrofit since seismic performance shows life safe grade in 0.12g of an earthquake.
