  • This study focused on the gender differences in the impact of a premarital educational program as an elective course at a university. Six hundred university students who were enrolled in the course "Family and Marriage" at a university in Pusan were surveyed for this study The students completed the survey questionnaire about attitudes toward marriage, family, love, spouse, sexuality and gender-roles, before and after the course. The data were analyzed by correlation, 1-test, two-Way ANOVA. The results showed, first of all, there was no significant impact of the education on the students′ attitudes on marriage and family, when gender was not introduced as a factor. However, looking closely, there was an interaction between gender and the attitudes in the impact of the education. As a result, the gender gap in terms of the attitudes toward marriage and the family that existed before the course was reduced after the course. Also, there were gender differences in the attitudes toward love, spouse, sexuality, and gender-roles before and after the course, and there were significant impacts of the course for both genders, albeit in different directions.

  • This study traces out female identity and sexuality in George Du Maurier's novel, Trilby. The heroine's sexuality in this novel plays some interesting roles invoking both male gaze and male homosocial desire. There seems to have been lots of debates about female subjectivity and gender relations in the Victorian age. George Du Maurier tries to redefine female identity which had been divided into two aspects in the age: angel and demon. When he describes Trilby's identity, the fixed duality as fallen, demonic and autonomous women might have been considerably fluid. Rather than returning to the old boundaries of female subjectivity and identity through his heroine, he unwittingly describes the female role as an erotic organizer. As Du Maurier shows that Trilby's identity plays a conduit role for male homosocial desire, he created the tension between masculinity and femininity and revealed a changing relationship between female nature and male culture as well. Furthermore, when George Du Maurier in his novel opened a new possibility for an erotic organizer through his heroin, Trilby, he seems to have represented the more fluid female role in the patriarchal culture that asked only some fixed roles for women.

This study provides results from a content analysis of 5 education materials for primary, middle and high school student. The results of this study were as follows: The Analysis Framework was developed to measure content in the education materials. It was organized into six domains. They are "Human Development", "Relationship", "Personal Skills", "Sexual Behavior", "Sexual Health", "Society and Culture". Each was associated topics and age appropriate developmental guides. The standard for analysis was the developmental guide suggested by the analysis framework. The total number of "being" responses to each developmental guidance equaled the score the material earned. These scores then were judged as to how well each education materials was comprehensive. 3 of 5 education materials were addressed as less than half the developmental guidline. Certain education materials were less comprehensive than others. I want to know 'Sexuality' covered the fewest developmental guidliness (34.6%). Interstingly, certain domains received much more coverage across all education materials than others. Most education materials provided instruction concerning "Human Development" (62.6%), "Sexual Health" (61.0%). However, topics such as "Personal Skills" (16.2%), "Relationship" (44.1%), "Sexual Behavior" (46.8%), "Society and Culture" (48.6%) were rarely addressed. Three topic, "negotiation", "sexual fantasy", "sexual dysfunction", were never addressed by most of the materials. Because several of the education material contained gender and sexual orientation biases. Certain topics such as "sexual identity and orientation" and "Gender role" were not adequately addressed by most of the material. Unfortunately, the overall findings of this study revealed that most of the education materials were considered insufficient for students. Because this study focused on whether or not the education materials addressed the developmental guidlines, further research is recommended to evaluate and addressed each developmental guidline.

  • Based on an ecological model of teacher agency, the purpose of this study was to examine the relevance of HE (home economics) subjects and CSE (comprehensive sexuality education) for HE teachers, and their implementation in HE classes. To achieve this, a survey was conducted with HE teachers nationwide for which 243 responses were collected, and interviews were conducted with five HE teachers who were actively practicing CSE. The results of the survey and interview were as follows. First, HE teachers strongly recognized the relevance of HE subjects and the topic of CSE with an average score of 4.63 (out of 5 points), and practiced CSE at an average of 72.23% (97.12%~43.21%) in their class. Second, based on the ecological approach model of teacher agency, the factors facilitating the CSE practice of HE teachers included: childbirth and parenting experienced as parents, experiences of students encountering sexual problems in school, the philosophy and content of HE subjects, positive feedback from students and support from fellow teachers, and intention to help students in their lives. Conversely, HE teachers cited a lack of sexual education experience as learners, complaints from parents, weakness of HE teacher networks, lack of specific statements in curriculum and textbooks, insufficient class content and teacher training, and lack of absolute class time. This study is significant in revealing that CSE is highly relevant to the contents of HE subjects and is already being practiced in HE classes.
