  • The aim of this study was to predict the results of superplastic forming on magnesium alloy, by considering the grain growth using numerical simulations. Superplastic behavior of AZ31 alloy was investigated through a set of uniaxial tensile tests that cover the forming temperatures ranges from 375 to $450^{\circ}C$. All the material parameters in the model, which consists of a constitutive equation and a grain growth equation, were determined. The model was used in the finite element analysis for uniaxial tensile tests and superplastic blow forming, through a user-subroutine available within ABAQUS. From this study, the effect of grain growth during forming was evaluated. The results show that it is essential to include the effect of grain growth in predicting the behavior during superplastic forming of this magnesium alloy.

  • In this paper, a new approach to the minimization of two-level Reed-Muller circuits is presented. In contrast to the previous method of using Xlinking operations to join two cubes for minimization. Cube selection method tries to select cubes one at a time until they cover the ON-set of the given function. A simple heuristic for selecting appropriate cubes is presented. In this heuristic, simply all cubes from the largest to the smallest are tried and whenever they decrease the number of remaining terms they are accepted. Since cubes once selected are not considered for a new selection, our method takes less time than other methods that need repetitive optimization process. The experimental results turned out to be improved in many cases compared to the best results in the literature.

  • We describe here the identification of a transcription factor, ATFC that regulates the UPR by binding to the UPRE only when the signaling pathway is activated. The data in this study cover the first set of results, showing that ATFC has a major role in the insect UPR. (omitted)

  • This paper describes some results of change detection in Tokyo metropolitan area, Japan , using the Landsat TM data, and methods to quantify the ground cover classes. The changes are analyzed using the measures of not only conventional spectral classes but also a set of landscape indices to describe spatial properties of ground cove types using fractal dimension of objects, entropy in the specific windows defining the neighbors of focusing locations. In order eliminate the seasonal radiometric effects on TM data, an automated class labeling method is also attempted. Urban areas are also delineated automatically by defining the boundaries of the urban area. These procedures for urban change detection were implemented by the unified image computing methods proposed by the author, they can be automated in coherent and systematic ways, and it is anticipated to automate the whole procedures. The results of this analysis suggest that Tokyo metropolitan area was extended to the suburban areas along the new transportation networks and the high density area of Tokyo were also very much extended during the period between 1985 and 1995.

  • This paper focues on the flexural behavior of RC beams externally reinforced using Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastics plates. (CFRP) A non-linear finite element (FE) analysis is proposed in order to complete the experimental analysis of the flexural behaviour of the beams. This paper is a part of a complete program aiming to set up design formulate to predict the strength of CFRP strengthende beams, particularly when premature failure through plates-end shear or concrete cover delamination occurs. An elasto-plastic behaviour is assumed for reinforced concrete and interface elements are used to model the bond and slip.

  • Patients use the senses all the time, mostly simultaneously. Senses are never turned off even patients in serious condition use some of the senses. Space is the inexhaustible source of stimuli. So far we have thought that it is impossible to come up with a set of rules and guidelines that cover all the possible situations involving senses and when there have been usually no conscious coordination between different sensorial stimuli and the comprehensive perception of space always results from the engagement of combination of senses and other inputs based on knowledge and experience. This study concerns about patients' demand analysis through senses. The reflection of patients' demand to the ward planning can develope the healing environment.

  • The EPIC model was applied to assess the environmental impacts of two contrasting tillage systems (conventional versus ridge tillage). The model was calibrated with field data and validated with another set of data. The errors between the 12-year predicted and observed means or medians were less than 10% for nearly all of the environmental indicators, with the major exception of a nearly 44% over prediction of the N surface runoff loss for Watershed 2. The predicted N leaching rates, N losses in surface runoff, and sediment loss clearly showed that EPIC was able to simulate the long-term impacts of tillage and residue cover on these processes.

  • Several models physically based to predict the evolution of the snowpack have been proposed. Validity of these models for hourly estimation is, however, questionable, since they have been tested only on a daily basis. A computational model to predict the amount of snowpack on an hourly basis in terms of snowload from a set of meterological measurements was developed and investigated the rapid snowmelt conditions during Fohn events in the Takada plain.

  • In this paper, we discuss the schedule problems for Korean Professional Baseball League (KPBL) and propose approaches to solve these problems by applying Integer Programming. A schedule in a sport league must satisfy lots of constraints on timing such as organizational, attractiveness, and fairness requirements. Organizational requirements cover a set of rules which have to guarantee that all the games can be scheduled according to the regulations imposed by Korean Baseball Organization (KBO). Attractiveness requirements focus on what stadium visitors, television spectators, and the clubs expect, that is, a varied, eventful, and exciting season. Fairness requirements have to guarantee that no team is handicapped or favored in comparison with the others. In addition to finding a feasible schedule that meets all the constraints, the problem addressed in this paper has the additional complexity of having the objective of minimizing the travel costs and every team has the balancing number of the games in home. We formalize the KPBL problem into an optimization problem and adopt the concept of evolution strategy to solve it. Using the method proposed, it is efficient to find better results than approaches developed before.
