Design of an Efficient Scheduling Strategy in Education-On-Demand Systems (주문형 교육 시스템에서 효율적인 스케쥴링 기법 설계)

  • Scheduling strategy in the Education-on-Demand system should be designed to service the isochronous requests from several learners with single disk retrieval to improve the performance of the system. In this paper, the scheduling strategy which reduces the disk I/O and buffer consumption by utilizing the resources of the learner's system has been proposed. All the requests from the learner are not serviced from the server but forwarded to the learner's system which preserves the requested information. Therefore, the server can increase the throughput and reduces the initial latency time of the user. The proposed strategy has been compared to the conventional method by simulations and proved to be more efficient.

  • Because development of high speed network, spread of internet, and high quality of computer performance, request and internet about massive multiplayer playing the game, is increasing. In order to experience realistic game play which is one of the most importance factor in massive multiplayer on-line, synchronization is importance matter. We propose synchronized and optimized scheme that combined FSM (Finite State Machine) and event holding method for efficient state synchronization for massive multiplayer on-line, and we show the effectiveness and reliability of our proposed scheme through the implementing and testing of the game server applying on our proposed scheme.

  • The convergence of broadcasting and telecommunication technologies is a key issue of the ubiquitous networks. So this paper offers the convergence of integrated telecommunication networks and broadcasting system, Advanced Terrestrial Digital Multimedia Broadcasting (AT-DMB), and the interconnection of them via the Media Independent Information Server/Service (MIIS). Then, this paper proposes the fast wakeup and connection mechanism with concepts for improving QoS and energy efficiency simultaneously. In the proposed convergence network, our mechanism places the key on the minimization of both the incoming service delay destined to a turned-off interface by using the broadcasting network and the additional energy consumption. This paper further evaluates the performance of proposed mechanism through the numerical and experimental analysis and has confirmed the decrease of both service delay and energy consumption.

  • As the Internet is quickly evolving from best-effort networks to a very critical communications infrastructure that requires higher quality Internet services and the delivery of such communications services become competitive, large-scale NSPs or ISPs have to concern much more on the performance and efficient resource usages of their networks. This situation naturally leads the providers to seek a possible solution from traffic engineering (TE) methodologies. In this paper, we propose a TE server solution for a large-scale MPLS-based IP autonomous system, which addresses these TE requirements such as the measurement, characterization, modeling and control of Internet traffic.

  • Owing to its simplicity and flexibility, the session initiation protocol (SIP) has been widely adopted as a major session-management protocol for Internet telephony or Voice-over IP (VoIP) services. However, SIP has faced various types of security threats. Call-disruption attacks are some of the most severe threats they face, and can greatly inconvenience consumers. In this paper, we analyze such SIP call-disruption attacks, and propose a method for detecting and counteracting them by extending the SIP INFO method with authentication. Using the proposed method, both the target user and the SIP server can detect the existence of a call-disruption attack on a user and counteract the attack. We demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method from the viewpoint of computational complexity by configuring a test-bed with an Asterisk SIP proxy server and an SIP performance (SIPp) emulator.

  • The objective of this study was to design and implement a gateway for remote monitoring a combine. Many researchers have designed and implemented trouble-shooting system of agricultural machine. but the system didn't have network system or used wired network system. But monitoring machine have been operated in the out of door. In such an environment, each machine have to be operated under on a guarantee of mobility and stability. Thus, we have developed a gateway with an embedded system including the XScale PXA255 processor and wireless network device. We have also built an embedded Linux kernel and several devices. We developed an embedded application for monitoring a combine and this application is also capable of receiving signals from other clients and sending them to a server via Wireless LAN. Finally, results of performance evaluation which measured CPU share and memory sizes have shown that it is possible to provide monitoring service stably.

  • We developed a small, remote controlled observation ship that can reduce the cost of gathering data for marine and coastal environments. The control system is composed of three microprocessors, one is for overall mission control, another for control of propulsion motors, and the other for sensor operation. For communication system, we adopt direct and indirect methods based on the wireless modem of commercial cellular telephone. The former is a direct communication between the modems of the ship and the server, and the latter is an indirect communication via internet between the ship and the server. The performance of the ship is demonstrated with the results produced by sets of experiments.

  • In video-on-demand systems, movies are striped across the disks of the array in a video server to support multiple access. The blocks of the movies have to be placed carefully on the disks of the array in a video server in order to avoid load imbalance across these disks as well as to achieve maximum utilization of both space and bandwidth of these disks. This paper proposes a movie placement method called the GARR (group-alternation round-robin) that is based on the dynamic disk striping method considering the popularity of movie. The GARR uses group-alternation as movie selection policy and round-robin as data placement policy, where group-alternation allocates popular movie and unpopular movie groups to disks alternately. The performance of the GARR is evaluated by simulations.

  • $IP^2$, as an extended concept of the next generation IMT network, is a concept of basically supporting mobility using two steps of IP address (i.e. IPha (IP Host address) and IPra (IP routing address)) in IP backbone network. Current $IP^2$system has a shortcoming of excess usage of network resources caused by sending paging messages to all cells in LA (Location Area) in paging procedure. Considering the evolving direction of network, which is taking mobility with various speed and integration of devices into consideration, this shortcoming must be overcome. In this paper, we proposed a method to reduce time and memory for paging by maintaining current information of MN (Mobile Node) not in Active state with proxy server. Performance evaluation based on NS-2 simulations has shown that the efficiency of network resources is improved in the proposed method.

  • Data broadcasting is a mechanism to transmit information to clients in simplex transmission environments. In this mechanism, server transmits to repeat all information to all users and users use a necessary data when the data is transmitted. Therefore users are waiting the necessary data until the data is transmitted. It is important to reduce user's waiting time. Server schedules the data to reduce waiting time. In this paper, we study efficient data scheduling algorithm. The result shows that the performance of the proposed method is increased 13 percent compared to the method considering only request frequency.
